Having a portfolio and self confidence, both so necessary when you’re running a creative business!⠀ ⠀ Here’s the story of how I nurtured both in the beginning of my career as a lettering artist. ⠀ ⠀ When I started out as a freelancer in lettering I didn’t have a lot of lettering work to show. In a stroke of luck, I happened to meet @beppeartz in one of the monthly typographic meetings here in Berlin (again, the importance of showing up!). With him we initiated an online battle called Lettering vs Calligraphy where we challenged each other on a daily “fight” on http://letteringvscalligraphy.com. Swipe to see some of the battles and things we did together.⠀ ⠀ The project developed beyond our expectations: we had thousands of visitors to out website every day, it triggered an exhibition in Berlin, a book, and we were even invited to talk in international conferences!⠀ ⠀ With this project I had fun, I inspired other designers and lettering artists, but I also intensively trained my skills.
