Having a portfolio and self confidence, both so necessary when you’re running a creative business!⠀ ⠀ Here’s the story of how I nurtured both in the beginning of my career as a lettering artist. ⠀ ⠀ When I started out as a freelancer in lettering I didn’t have a lot of lettering work to show. In a stroke of luck, I happened to meet @beppeartz in one of the monthly typographic meetings here in Berlin (again, the importance of showing up!). With him we initiated an online battle called Lettering vs Calligraphy where we challenged each other on a daily “fight” on http://letteringvscalligraphy.com. Swipe to see some of the battles and things we did together.⠀ ⠀ The project developed beyond our expectations: we had thousands of visitors to out website every day, it triggered an exhibition in Berlin, a book, and we were even invited to talk in international conferences!⠀ ⠀ With this project I had fun, I inspired other designers and lettering artists, but I also intensively trained my skills. Memorabilia from letteringvscalligraphy.com project. A tear-apart card we created back in those times with @beppeartz. This became one of the battles, too. For those that don’t know about the project, this is an online battle we carried on with the Italian calligrapher @beppeartz some years ago. We were creating a letter per day according to a key word (for instance: sexy s). He was executing it with calligraphy (that means writing the letter) and I was executing it with lettering (drawing the letter). We were uploading it to a website where visitors could vote! ［東京　１３日　ロイター］ - 米ラスベガス・サンズ(LVS.N)は１３日、日本で統合型リゾート（ＩＲ）にカジノを設立する計画を断念したと明らかにした。すでにシーザーズ・エンターテインメントやウィン・リゾーツも計画を撤回しており、観光を通じた経済支援を目指している日本政府には打撃となる。

サンズは計画断念の理由を明らかにしていない。今年１月には、日本での事業展開に意欲を示していた。

アデルソン会長は発表文で「ＩＲ開発を巡る枠組みで、われわれの目標が達成不能となった。他の機会に注力する時だ」と述べた。

日本政府は、カジノや商業施設、会議場などを備えた米ラスベガス型のＩＲ構想を立て、３つのＩＲ営業免許を承認。２０２１年に免許交付入札を実施する見通しで、横浜、東京、大阪が応札するとみられている。

サンフォード・バーンスタインのアナリストは昨年、日本のカジノ市場を年８０億ドル相当と試算した。

サンズのゴールドスタイン社長は、四半期決算後の電話会議で、日本の建設費用の高さを指摘。日本でリゾート１カ所建設する費用は、サンズが中国に持つカジノやモール全てのそれに相当すると述べていた。
