In Mies van der Rohe’s debut work an unlikely architect and an even unlikelier client came together: the renowned philosopher and professor Alois Riehl commissioned the 22-year-old Ludwig Mies, then an apprentice in the Berlin office of Bruno Paul, to design a house in Potsdam-Neubabelsberg. Riehl already had a precise idea of the character his house should have, namely that of a spiritual retreat and meeting point for intellectual exchange. Being placed in an undulating landscape close to the Potsdam lakepscape it should also be intimately connected with nature.

The genesis of the house as well as the life and work of its commissioner were the subject of „Alois Riehl. Der erste Bauherr von Mies“, the last exhibition at Mies-van-der-Rohe-Haus in Berlin. Alongside the exhibition Form + Zweck published the present eponymous book in which a lengthy essay by Fritz Neumeyer takes center stage. Based on new research and source material the Mies expert significantly expanded his text included in his epochal book „The Artless Word“. In his essay Neumeyer emphasizes two aspects central to Mies’ debut work: first, Mies’ in an almost morphological sequence divided the garden side of the hillside plot into three distinctive parts, i.e. a geometrically ordered one surrounding the house and the two more natural parts below the monumental supporting wall dominating the contour line of the plot. The second and for Mies’ future work most relevant aspect is the composition of the garden side of the house as a prostyle temple on a  pedestal, a motif that would most prominently return in the Neue Nationalgalerie.

Beyond the architectural dimension of the Riehl/Mies relationship, Neumeyer also sheds light on Mies’ encounters with other great minds in the House as well as the influence this intellectual cosmos had on Mies’ own formation and architecture.As a sort of bonus the book also includes recently discovered autochrome photographs, early color photographs that document the beauty of the house and garden, that round out this brilliant little book that once more emphasizes the necessary research of Mies’ early work and what can be gained from it. Highly recommended reading!

I was re-watching pjo series while I was eating dinner...(like 4 hours before I'm writing this)

And as a art historian (sorry if it's not how it's said, I don't know how to say "historiadora del arte" in English right now because English is my second language, it's 3 am and I don't have Wi-Fi right now) ...I'm a little upset because the arches in Poseidon's cabin... Upset wasn't the word, it's more like... It was almost perfect reinterpretacion of an ancient Greek temple (a prostyle temple with a different number of columns) but the arches... 😅

THE GREEKS KNEW HOW TO BUILD WITH ARCHES, BUT THEY DIDN'T USED THEM. THE ROMANS USED MORE THE ARCH IN ARCHITECTURE. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is stupid, I'm more laughing than complaining (because all the new Rome vs camp half blood if we get there) but really... They manage to use an architectural plant that it was used in temples for the cabin, with a different number of columns (probably tomorrow I'll analyze it better because it was so fun to put my degree in use for my funny silly show) but then they put those arches over the door and windows... And I understand that it looks more fancy and pretty, but that was more in roman architecture than Greek (and even Romans didn't used those arches too much, they were fans of domes and half barrel vaults... But I'll analyze it tomorrow because it's 3 am and my brain isn't braining.)

Annabeth would haunted the architect that used those arches 🤣 that was my immediate intrusive thought.

No worries! I have an explanation for this. Our prostylizing (or however it’s spelled, I don’t know either) is actually an extension of not wanting to make a fuss.

Basically, we realized early on that the number one cause of fusses for us was ignorance of who we are. So, when we worked to let people know who we are, they were less likely to give us problems. There’s research to support this, people who know Mormons personally tend to view us more favorably.

Even in our missionary work we try not to get confrontational. I served a mission in the southern United States, the Bible Belt, and we would often encounter people who were determined to make things confrontational. Our guidance for that was to avoid “Bible bashing” (arguments about our disagreements) and instead focus on building connections and finding similarities. Nobody has ever in the history of anything has ever been argued into being a believing.

Am I making sense? Basically, we don’t really go to places to tell people what to believe, we go to places to tell people what we believe. If people agree with what we believe and want to join, great! But our missionary work is more about public relations than “winning souls”.

On paper, you’re absolutely right. It makes little to no sense for us to be both non-confrontational and have a massive missionary program. But we did the math and found that going out and telling our own story in our own words makes for less problems in the long run.

Some people, covens! Claim that you could do it by a VR relative lifestyle. I think that’s also clammy with the sweat of bad ideas on purpose to create more covens out of a decent enough ideal.

So possibly, if the former ideal could become a real future prediction made good, it’s possible that gaming areas and a necessary compulsion to participate in them and find it a naturally suitable non-alternate experience or a fact of life — that could seriously be ultimate troth to me, though I hate forcing everyone the same, it’s seems irrationally cruel — to participate in game arenas. And not just to participate in gaming. It’s kind of harsh. If you had to game to be in line with newer technologies and you had to also besides just gaming, remain signed up and in line with a gaming arena — I’d say this might not be necessarily more or less serious than a game club sign in like Game Center Google or Apple Games Apple (one is free the others not but they stand for different things too besides so bad example); I’m trying to define a no pressure, non ultra ultimatum technological fact of life. New fact of life in the future that life instead of a job depends on gaming and also on being member of a game arena. It’s more than possible, that could lead eventually to a natural habit and habitat for life’s habits to having to become more and more naturally and automatically self-reflexive with self determining healthy responses to questions. But I prostyle by course of existence that cheeseburgers and pasta are healthy!

So you never know.

Many in Sooner Nation are beyond excited about our quarterback for 2024, Jackson Arnold. It is probably warranted. However, (see below)

Texas quarterback for 2024, Arch Manning, one of the most highly publicized recruits in history, really is all that. The stories and stats on him are almost perfect, like so perfect a person like this could only exist in fiction.

Many of you already know his story. He became a coveted recruit and in the spotlight during his freshman year in high school as the starting QB on the varsity team. His uncles are Peyton and Eli Manning, each of them have two super bowl rings. Arch attended the same private high school, Isidore Newman, as his uncles and broke all their records. He threw for 8,599 yards and 115 touchdowns with 20 interceptions while rushing for 1,155 yards and 25 TDs.

Make all the throws - long ball (had a 60 yarder as high school freshman) great touch can throw receivers open. Can deliver with great velocity. Great anticipation, accuracy and timing on intermediate throws. Reads situation and throws the type of ball needed for that play.

Great Mechanics - and always practicing to improve them. Footwork, hip twitch...

Football IQ - off the charts. Insatiable desire to learn the game. Forget who it was that found his notes from a meeting, and were astounded on how much information he had absorbed.

Work Ethic - Beyond mechanics and mental game mentioned above. He is a gym rat, constantly lifting weights and running.

Running and scrambling - while his body is that of a prostyle quarterback he has good speed and can be elusive.

Humility- He is very hard on himself and Uber competitive. This is not how he interacted with his high school team mates. Hung out with them, one of the guys, laid back, joked around.

Steve Sarkisian is why he picked Texas. Not only great offensive mind but will develop traditional pro style quarterback. (Compare Sark to Lincoln Riley. Riley has three Heisman trophy winners, and two number one draft pics, he doesn't produce quarterbacks that are old school NFL. Riley's quarterbacks run, pull off Houdini escapes while finding open receivers.)

IMO - think he picked Texas because he was assured they would buy an offensive line that could protect him.
