Performance Giants Join Forces, Name Leader
Tumblr media
Two leaders in the performance drivetrain market, Pure Drivetrain Solutions, led by Chris Miller, and Boninfante Friction, Inc., led by Rob Boninfante, have joined forces to create a powerhouse joint venture. This new company, Standard Drivetrain, LLC. will be led by industry dynamo, Michael Cargill, as Chief Executive Officer. “High performance requires high performers,” states Rob Boninfante, President of Boninfante Friction, Inc. “When Chris and I started talking about combining our businesses, there was only one name that we considered to lead the team.” Michael Cargill brings decades of experience in the Automotive Aftermarket to the table, most recently as Category Manager for Schaeffler Automotive, where he focused on introducing torque converters into Schaeffler’s broad aftermarket product line. Prior to Schaeffler, Cargill was a product manager at Transtar Industries, touching all product lines, but focusing on drivetrain. Cargill recently fulfilled two terms as President of the Board of Directors of the Torque Converter Rebuilders Association. “Michael has been a strong leader in the Aftermarket, and we’re excited to leverage his knowledge, innovative spirit, and business prowess in the performance industry,” said Chris Miller. “Rob and I are looking forward to great success under his leadership.” “I am humbled and thrilled to work with Rob, Chris, and their teams and take on leadership of Standard Drivetrain,” says Cargill. “I’m looking forward to building on the solid foundation that each brand has established and creating process efficiencies and production improvements to grow the overall company.” Standard Drivetrain, LLC. is associated with the following brands: Jase Composites, Pure Drivetrain Solutions, CMR (Chris Miller Racing) Productions, Sterling Auto Group, Boninfante Friction, ProTorque, BMF Engineering and Kenny’s Diesel & Pullin’. Standard Drivetrain will focus on the advancement of technology and manufacturing for the aftermarket high performance automotive industry. “Our customers require the highest performance in the most demanding environments,” Boninfante concludes. “This partnership will allow us to surpass our customers’ expectations, by consolidating resources and operations, achieving efficiencies, and accelerating our speed to market.” Read more like this... Our friends @thebigredcamaro are going fast and having fun! Check out todays run 💪 #repost Big Red Camaro Big Bonneville update! We went 257 MPH on a 246.686 MPH record! . We are super F’n pumped about our speed. We have to back it up tomorrow on our first run in the morning with a equivalent (or faster) to validate breaking the record. The car and the salt have to be in sync again. If we don’t back-up the speed, we will have to run another 246.69 MPH (or higher) run to start the record breaking process again. . ProTorque Launches New Website with Interactive "Torque Converter Recommendation Engine" Selection Tool
Tumblr media
ProTorque has launched an all-new eCommerce website which includes its Torque Converter Recommendation Engine (TCRE) – an industry-first, interactive torque converter selection tool which lets customers immediately search and sort to find the exact converter for their application. Built with years of real-world testing and validation to produce winning results, ProTorque’s Torque Converter Recommendation Engine carries the company’s legacy of innovation one step further. Compatible with both desktop and mobile devices, ProTorque’s new website centers around the TCRE and uses decades of experience to match the exact engine combination to the right torque converter and lets the user take complete control of their build. One of the biggest problems with torque converter selection is getting a knowledgeable tech to help guide the process. ProTorque's Torque Converter Recommendation Engine eliminates the guesswork and fear of ordering the wrong product as the tool was designed and backed by a talented team who have the experience to put more people in the winner’s circle. The TCRE experience begins by verifying the intended application’s usage. From street to strip, competition, or even diesel, visitors then choose their fuel type and whether or not they run a trans brake. Transmission options for Ford, GM, Chrysler, and other manufacturers allow the drill-down to go even further with specific applications. Next, users select their performance preferences including power level, vehicle weight, power adder type, and engine cubic inches. Finally, users can select additional torque converter features that they need, such as anti-ballooning plates, a billet front cover, billet stator, bolt-together assembly, clutch type, and more. Once all variables have been selected through the TCRE, the ProTorque website displays all possible matching torque converters, sorted by best-fit results. Visitors can quickly and easily see their options along with features and benefits, then move on to configuring the exact specs with input shaft spline count, stator type, sprag option, lock up option, and more allowing them to essentially custom-build their own torque converter online. All of ProTorque’s torque converters can be purchased online directly from the website so there’s no need to wait for business hours or call-in phone support; the best in technical guidance is available 24/7 all in one easy to access location, without having to call. Additionally, free delivery or pick-up is available from ProTorque’s Authorized Distributors – all of which are easily located under the “Dealers” section of the website as well. Coupled with other important functions such as sections for service requests, comprehensive technical information with videos and more, racer news, company updates, apparel, and more, ProTorque’s all new website makes it easier than ever to find the exact torque converter for any given combination. To learn more, or to order, visit ProTorque.com or call ProTorque directly at (631) 218-8700. About ProTorque: Since its inception in the 1980s, ProTorque has focused on quality and quality has been the reason for its phenomenal growth and customer loyalty. In 2020, Joe Rivera and ProTorque joined the Boninfante family in their state of the art facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where all resources are devoted to motorsports and the development of high-performance products. Big Red Camaro Goes For 220 mph at Mojave
By Dave Ashton
The Big Red Camaro has been chewing up the road and track and breaking speed records for many a decade, now with a run in the inhospitable climate of the Mojave desert. Labelled the baddest Camero ever, The aim was to hit 220 mph with their current setup. The team hit a respectful 206.1 mph which you can see below, but you can definitely bet they will push this machine until they hit the magic figures.
Hitting speed landmarks usually means a team effort and it’s no different with the Big Red Camaro. Currently consisting of driver R.J. Gottleib, team manager Dave Ward, engine built in tuner Larry Mollicone, Tim Fleenor crew Chief and Mark Ewing( no relation to the Dallas lot..) as head mechanic. The history goes back to 1987 when they took a stock 1969 Camaro Z/28 and added a Full Race 540ci Lingenfelter Big Block to take on the best of European exotics. A year later in 1988 Big Red was entered into the 3rd Annual La Carrera Classica Mexican road race and won decisively with the same 540ci engine and NASCAR chassis built by Bill Osborne.
The car was retired in 1996 for eight years, sitting quietly in a museum until the Gottliebs put the car back into service in 2004.
The car has had a constant progression over the years with various engines and set ups, currently with a 598ci. 2000Hp ProCharged Big Block, a 1987/’88 Bill Osborne Inland Chassis Design subframe, Rossler transmissions 4L80E, protorque converter, zero electronic engine management software and runs on methanol. The classic setup for Big Red is a full race setup with a ’69 Camaro body, dashboard and even working windows and glass windshield. Basically, looking like a factory Camaro with every racing spec. you could ever want underneath.
Pushing the boundaries of speed and performance hasn’t been without its hiccups. In 2016 the car was completely fire damaged at the Buttonwillow Raceway, preparing for Pikes Peak, but came back a year later, stronger than ever.
The car is a constantly evolving beast and if you check out their website you can find all their past engines, set-ups, history and news. There’s even a documentary on the vehicle with a preview below.
