This is a Chevrolet 409 Turbo-Fire V8, a legendary engine from the early 1960s. It was introduced in 1961 as part of the Chevy W-series big-block engines and quickly gained fame in muscle cars and drag racing. The 409 cubic-inch (6.7L) displacement and high-performance 425 HP version made it one of the most powerful engines of its time.

Featuring dual four-barrel carburetors and chrome valve covers, this engine was a favorite in cars like the Chevrolet Impala SS, Bel Air, and Biscayne. The 409 became an icon, immortalized in the Beach Boys' song "409", symbolizing the early days of the American muscle car era.v

Please pray for this 75 yr old hero of mine. He had an engine blow up and hit the wall hard at 300 mph and has a serious head injury. One of the hardest things for me as I get older is watching my heros die or get hurt. This man is one of the coolest, bravest badasses I've ever seen. At 75 yrs of age he's strapping himself in nitro methane burning funny car and going over 300mph in a 1/4 mile. It's all he knows and I just love this dude. Again..please pray for him. He needs and deserves all the help he can get right now!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thank you John for all the wonderful thrills you've given us while risking your life for speed, safety and the sport of drag racing. Pony Express: Art Malone’s Mustang Funny Car.

“Long-time drag racer ‘Colonel’ Art Malone has finally made the switch from rails to the wild funny cars. Based on a Race Car Engineering chassis, his B&N fiberglass-bodied pony sports, of all things, a ‘67 Chrysler hemi engine. Power is added in the form of a Hilborn injector, Isky cam, Jardine headers, Schiefer mag, Milodon oil, and Eelco fuel systems.

The front suspension consists of trailing torsion arms made by chassis builder Woody Gilmore. Bob Sorrell performed his usual exceptionally fine aluminum work. Art Carr modified the Torqueflite transmission, delivering the MoPar’s power to big Goodyears. Engine, driveline, and driver are offset 3 inches to left to combat torque. George Cerny painted car.”
