in retrospect, perhaps you could’ve dealt with the current predicament better. perhaps you could’ve just ignored him when you two accidentally bumped into each other when both of you were too enamored within your phones. perhaps you shouldn’t have screamed the moment you looked up at him and caused a scene. there were a lot of ‘perhaps’ between you and tsukishima, too bad a ‘perhaps’ was simply a possibility and not reality.

“what are you doing here?” kei spoke. it was calm, yet there was something so venomous about his intentions hidden in the depths of his voice, you couldn’t help but feel an inkling of sadness within your gut.

“i’m supposed to be meeting someone.” you answered briefly.

“who?” he mused, “the guy you like?”

you raised your eyebrows at him intently. the moment your gazes locked onto each other, you couldn’t but be reminded on why you had fallen for such an enigma like tsukishima kei.

you hadn’t seen him in ages. he was your golden boy with hair all ruffled and messy, just how you liked it, and yet it still looked as if it was made from the finest alabaster silk. height and proportion given to him by the gods, he seemed too perfect in your eyes that he ended up breaking it. to you, he was nothing but artificial and synthetic.

and you wished he wasn’t.

“no.”

he scoffs, “then what are you doing here? stalking me?”

“stalking you?” you exclaimed, huffing at the audacity. “you would be the last person i would be stalking.”

“so you’re telling me, that we both suddenly come across each other by mere coincidence?” kei tested as you gradually grew suspect to him until you both received a buzz at your phones.

he had texted the both of you at the same time. you sighed, rolling your eyes. you felt your shoulders drop as kei’s gaze was looking at their surroundings for a dumb carrothead that wasn’t even present.

“great,” you deadpanned.

kei pulled at a face at you, one that you had to stop yourself from giggling. god, you hated how you still found him adorable. “that dumbass probably thinks i’m the guy you like.”

your eyes widened slightly, pursing your lips as you fiddled your fingers a bit. awkward silence fell upon you two like an uncomfortable, wet blanket as you both just stood there. neither had the audacity to say anything as people continued bustling past you two.

gulping, you flicker your gaze at him, parting your lips to speak, but you were ultimately cut off. a crash of thunder emitted from the skies just as quickly as the cerulean skies diminished into a light gray.

“shit,” you mutter. your hand extended out in front of you as minuscule drops of rain landed upon your palm, “it’s raining. what the hell—”

without missing a beat, kei quickly grabbed at your wrist and pulled you along with him.

your feet dragged against the pavement slightly as you struggled to catch up with the tall boy in front of you. he was obviously trying to find shade or some form of shelter to cover from the heavy downpour upon the city.

kei slows, pulling you next to him as the two of you stood huddled tightly under a newspaper stand with other strangers who seeked shelter from the rain.

you two were way too close for comfort, “this fucking sucks. i just wanted to see the cherry blossoms with friends but instead i’m stuck under a little ass roof of a newspaper stand with some dickhead.”

“says the girl who ignored me for weeks for no apparent reason,” kei scoffs.

“you’re a liar.”

furrowing his eyebrows, he pivoted his body to completely face you, which caused him to be much closer to your face the others surrounding you pushed further in for shelter. “a liar? how the hell—” he cut himself off as his gaze left you in annoyance, “please, y/n, enlighten me.”

“you lied about your feelings for me,” you answered completely. you didn’t care anymore as it probably didn’t matter at this point anyway.

you watched as kei’s eyes widened, lips parted slightly as he struggled to form the words that was right on his tongue. “How—?”

“the night of the reunion, you were incredibly drunk and i was there to help you sober up a bit.” you began to explain, “i was with you for a while up until we needed to leave. but a couple minutes before that, you told me that i was beautiful and had feelings for me. we ended up kissing before yamaguchi took you home.”

kei’s expression was unreadable at this point, but it was evident this was new information for him.

“the thing is, the only reason why i was ignoring you was that i was trying to lose my feelings for you since you told me that what you said was a lie.” you finished your thought, eyes staring at kei’s as you tried to find some kinda of answer within them. you hated to admit it, but there was a hope inside you that this outcome with be different.

“i-i didn’t know.” was all he said, causing you to furrow your brows in confusion.

“what do you mean?”

kei shook his head, “i couldn’t remember a thing from that night. from what hinata told me, i thought i did something so stupid that it would cause you to hate me.”

oh. well that explains it.

you mentally facepalmed yourself as you tilted your head back to scoff before letting his rest against kei’s chest. “i’m an idiot.”

“it’s okay, i should’ve said something.” kei mutters, his hand patting the of your head, “besides, i’m the only one who gets to call you that, idiot.���

you laughed slightly into kei’s chest. his torso filled with warmth as he felt his heart pound against his ribcage much harder than usual.

lifting your head from his chest, you looked out into the city as the rain didn’t seem as if it was going to cease anytime soon. a sigh escapes your lips as you turned back towards kei.

you opened your mouth in attempt to say something, but you were immediately interrupted a hand lifting up your chin and bringing you close. before you had even comprehended what happened, your lips pressed against kei’s as if it was the missing piece of a puzzle. the world around you blurred into nothing but the crisp speing air and the blatant white noise of pouring rain.

you two were the only thing that mattered at that moment.
