John Lydon liderou uma bela pública imagem dos PIL no Hard Club | Reportagem Fotográfica

John Lydon sempre irreverente | mais fotos clicar aqui John Lydon deixou os épicos Sex Pistols em 1978 e nesse mesmo ano formou os Public Image Ltd, conhecidos também pela sua abreviatura PIL, juntamente com o guitarrista Keith Levenne (ex-Clash), o baixista Jah Wooble e o baterista David Crowe. Em 1984 Levene, Wobble e Walker abandonaram a banda. Passaram-se 45 anos desde a fundação desta espantosa banda britânica. Impulsionada desde sempre pelo vocalista John Lydon, ele o único membro que se manteve desde o prelúdio.

São já bastantes os ex-integrantes dos Public Image Ltd, apesar disso a chama mantém-se viva através de Lydon. Atualmente a formação conta também com Bruce Smith (bateria), Lu Edmonds (guitarra/banjo) e Scott Firth (teclado/sintetizadores).

Os Public Image Ltd no palco do Hard Club | mais fotos clicar aqui A discografia da banda foi prolífera entre 1978 e 1992 com 8 edições discográficas, depois disso apenas editaram três álbuns. O último deles o 11º, ‘End Of World’, editado já no decurso deste 2023. Trata-se do sucessor de ‘What the World Needs Now’, lançado em 2015. Foram portanto 8 anos sem edições discográficas.

A razão para a atual digressão é ‘End of World’, álbum editado em agosto passado. Apesar da morte da esposa de John Lydon, ocorrida em abril deste ano, os planos do disco e dos concertos seguiram em frente.

Lu Edmonds a tocar banjo | mais fotos clicar aqui Os Public Image Ltd são conhecidos pelo seu post-punk, são mesmo precursores desse estilo, ao qual agregam outros estilos como o punk rock, new wave, música experimental, hip-hop só para citar os mais relevantes.

A última passagem dos Public Image Ltd tinha ocorrido para uma atuação no Festival de Vilar de Mouro em 2018. Agora regressaram a Portugal para 2 concertos, marcamos presença na atuação do Hard Club no Porto ocorrida no passado dia 24 de outubro. Nesta atuação a banda tocou temas incontornáveis da sua história tais como “Rise” e “Public Enemy”. Algumas das novas fizeram igualmente parte da setlist tais como “Penge” ou “Being Stupid Again”.

"..."Flowers of Romance" follows, here a briefer and stripped of the resoundingly echoed drum and stick beat out that was such a violation of percussive politeness on the 12” version, but Levene’s violin playing again evokes Two Thousand And One Arabian Nightmares with rococo, sliding into dementia swirls over Lydon’s barely audible cries for help. The three piece group forsakes all other instruments save three sets of drums over pre-recorded synthesizer and brief guitar noise relays..."

Plus a print advert for SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES retrospective singles compilation "Once Upon a Time/The Singles," also featured in an issue of NZ's "Rip it Up" dated May, 1982.

"Many New Zealanders will have fond memories of going into the local record store to pick up the latest "Rip It Up." The magazine was launched in June 1977 as a free monthly distributed via record shops nationwide. Rip It Up was a first in that it gave both overseas and New Zealand music equal space and importance."
