❤️ Dan Dee “I Love You” Nylon Dino ❤️

This adorable vintage stegosaurus (or maybe dragon?) was made by Dan Dee. It seems to have been made in the Puffalump style. I don’t think that it’s technically a Puffalump, but it’s still extremely cute! Its style would suggest that it was made in the 80s or 90s.

CHAPTER TWO OF MAYBE BABY. This one is a little less sad. Still a little sad. But we’ll get a happy ending in the end. 

The only warning is that I mention Puffalumps, which are a terrifying 80s plush toy. No offense to Puffalump enthusiasts. 

Every September, the traveling carnival arrived in Hawkins for the annual Fall Festival. 

It had been six months since Eddie’s bat attack, and four months since his release from the hospital. He didn’t go out much anymore, but he hadn’t missed a Fall Festival since he’d first arrived in Hawkins eleven years earlier, and he wasn’t going to start now. He took Robin as his date, as a last hurrah before she left for IUB. 

 Eddie and Robin went on the little roller coaster, the magic maze, and the tilt-a-whirl, which made them both vaguely nauseous. They wandered along the midway, looking at the various games and prizes. The fair was technically harvest-themed, but only because Hawkins was at the end of the carnival’s circuit. It was too late for a summer theme, but too early for the haunted house, so the carnies tacked up paper pumpkins and leaves, and there were a few monsters here and there, but it was mostly the same as any summer fair. They had a rocket race, high striker, bust-a-balloon, skee ball. The prizes were mylar balloons in the shape of Disney characters, and big plush ears of corn wearing sunglasses. The most sought-after prizes, though, were the Puffalumps. They were huge neon animals made of parachute nylon and only half filled with stuffing, so the animal sagged in a slightly pathetic way that made you want to hug it and insist that everything was going to be okay. They were the most hideous toy Eddie could possibly imagine, but they were the Grand Prize, and everyone wanted a shot at winning them.

“Come on,” Eddie said. “I’m going to get you a Puffalump.”

“I don’t want a Puffalump, Eddie. Those things are repulsive.”

“You sure? You don’t want that purple puppy Puffalump over there?”

“That purppy pupple puppaluff– blech– Jesus– That dog has a belly button. That’s weird, Eddie. Puppies shouldn’t have belly buttons.”

“They’re mammals. They have them.”

This pulled Robin up short. She furrowed her brow. 

“Oh god you’re right. Why have I never seen a dog's belly button?”

“I want to go on the ferris wheel,” Eddie said. He grabbed Robin's hand and tugged her forward. 

“Do cats have belly buttons?” Robin asked. 

“Yes. But they’re covered in fur.”

“Why does that feel so wrong?”

This line of inquiry took them through the line, the ticket collector, and into their pod.

“What about whales? Do whales have belly buttons?”

“You’re the one in Mensa. Shouldn’t you know this?”

“Yes, well, the IQ test didn’t have any questions about belly buttons, Eddie.”

Today is my birthday, so I’d like to shout out a very special friend.

This is Panda, a toy as old as I am. She’s been through a lot (including, but not limited to, getting left behind at the store) and helped teach little me to speak my mind (the amount of people who called her Mr Panda drew me INSANE, to the point where I found her a dress at Toys R Us and it STILL happened!).

She’s usually kept on a high shelf to save her and my other stuffed friends from our dog, but I wouldn’t give her up for anything. 🥰
