Checking in with @crimsonlotustea 2016 Beneath an Emerald Sea sheng puerh! I’ve had a tong of this in my pumidor since summer 2017… this is the only cake I have cracked into, and this has had improper storage outside the pumidor for 1.5 years when I lived in Germany, so I wasn’t overly hopeful for it… but it is actually drinking really well (which excites me about the cakes stored well). Clearly has lost its young aroma, but by steep 3 it was deeply flavoured and thick bodied, youthful vegetal flavours still present, but a very prominent sweetness with very little astringency. Has a briney quality, and a little bitter cocoa nib vibe that I always loved… this combines with the sweetness to give something slightly reminiscent of salted caramel, which is actually great! Irish storage conditions are 15 - 22 C, 65 - 70 RH in my pumidor without added humidity. 2007 Everlasting Yiwu, got this from @toby8653 4 years ago 😲 It’s been a long time since I’ve tried it! Dry leaf has a celery/celeriac scent, but the wet leaf is sweet and fruity with a woody base note. Tea brews up with a nice orange liquor. Thick medium-thick body, deep woody base flavour layered with soft sweet stone fruits, a hint of bitterness with a light huigan. Typical Yiwu character I feel! A bit of strength, giving me a little hazy head feel and some nice warmth. After 4 years of not so great western dry storage it still holds its own, but I think it has definitely suffered a bit! @white2tea 2019 Big Green Hype! Been sitting in my pumidor for months! Great vegetal and creamy base with good thick body, the creaminess coming out in steep 4+. Lovely floral high notes, a pleasant sweetness with papaya and melon, and a certain spicy peppery note. A small smoky meatiness I think as well. Nice clingy finish in the back of the mouth and throat, with a lingering huigan. For @cosmin.dordea, I got a dedicated pumidor about 10 years ago. From a cabinet maker that makes humidors for cigars, this cabinet uses a less smelly cedar. It has two humidifier units in the bottom back and blow humidity into the cabinet, with a meter in the upper right. I keep it set for 70 RH. Temperature is ambient (60 to 80F). After a brief reprieve for a few days, the rain is back in Sydney for the foreseeable future 🌧 I took the opportunity to recharge the Boveda pack in my shou pumidor and I rediscovered this stack of 2020 "Pretty Girls" biscuits from #white2tea. Since it's definitely the weather for it, I was able to try one for the first time today. The 12 gram biscuit easily snapped in two but I put both halves in to my pot to brew because I needed Big Tea Energy today. Despite long steeps, Pretty Girls was thick with a red date sweetness. Extra long steeps only added a slight woodiness. There was a nice complexity to the fragrance that I don't typically find in a #ripepuer but didn't have a whole lot of time to explore. I'm keen to give this one another go (and no doubt the weather will provide an opportunity soon). This tea is sold out now but I will be keeping a lookout in case it makes a return in future seasons.
