besides being a silly gay queer nerd artist and writer, i'm atypical, a furry, a fan-enby of a bunch of characters, an adult and a game dev. i'm an introverted, shy, and asocial person. somewhat antisocial too; sometimes i can be completely silent and spend weeks alone when too overwhelmed from socialization. (i'm INFP and pisces, but i don't take these seriously, although i can relate at times)

i'm completely atheist. i don't mind religion, even if i might take it as stories and thoughts, but i just don't mind as long as it isn't fanatic christian stuff — i was raised around these people and it got me very tired of those things.

i graduated on a game development technical course i took along with high school (public education, got in through an entrance exam, got in first place on the classification list), and i'm often studying things on my own, like languages. i draw, design, paint, conceptualize, illustrate, make pixel art, research, edit, write, and can animate and code too — sometimes i also try music, acting, photography, and cosplay. i'm still working on being an indie game dev; for now, i'm mainly an artist and writer

as for how i identify as LGBT+, i'm queer as in all pan a-spec atractions-wise. gender-wise, i identify as pangender, which in my case includes agender; i'm transneutral and non-binary (and — it's obvious but just to mention — gender non-conforming). i usually put it all in short by just saying i'm a queer enby, or a pan a-spec enby, but i don't shy away from just saying i'm gay (as in i'm definitely not straight)

as an enby, i'm also dionysian (more often known as diamoric), and any kind of relationship with me would be called this — 'cause they'd have an enby (me) in them. you could call me almost anything from the LGBTQ+ definitions and that'd still be almost fitting, but if you were to call me something accurately fitting, that's queer, pan a-spec, diamoric/dionysian and enby, heheh

i could be considered legally blind, as i can't see anything a few inches away from my face without glasses (8 degrees in each lens, but i've been needing a new prescription for some years... couldn't afford it yet). i suspect i might be neurodivergent (ADHD, ASPD and autistic, mainly), and i have lots of symptoms of depression, anxiety and C-PTSD, but also can't afford to look into those. (funny fact: i managed to get in a psychology college earlier in 2024, and for a good while was studying psychology there before even being able to go see a psychologist-) (i still do deep researches about those topics of mental health)

from the way i understand relationships and concepts related to it and to living in society — understandings that have some connections to my pan a-spec (includes asocial) pangender agender way of being —, i'm also non-monogamous in attractions and beliefs. i could be either in a monogamous or non-monogamous relationships romantically, though. i'd do fine in any, i can adapt quite well to who i love and/or like and care about! it could even be an undefined relationship — it all would be up to who i'd be with. (i'd develop an attachment, and even a hyperfixation on them, too, which would make it even easier for me to adapt,,, anyways-)

i know spanish and french, besides portuguese and english. i don't have a lot of practice with those other two languages, but i can understand them well (speaking portuguese helps, heh). i still want to learn more languages — for now, i'm also studying japanese, LIBRAS and ASL from time to time

i aim for diversity, inclusion and equity, specially for my games. that's a reason why i study a lot, and that's also why i want to make most of my creations available for free. and that's why i encourage you to give me support if you want, as it helps it all to be free of charge, and can give you a custom art or some cool extra things for a low tip!

i also like to roleplay/perform as characters at times, and used to play D&D, besides liking the RPG genre in videogames itself

as you see, i'm all over the place — i'm not completely organized, and i allow myself to let some things be messy (like tags); it's what works best for me, as far as i noticed

i like lots of things! and, though i enjoy horror, i don't make much art of this kind. plus, i create original stories, art, and characters of my own, like Safey — they're my mascot persona, and they're the fox creature on the pixel art by the start of this blog post. i have a bunch of projects i develop on my own, including ideas of comics and games! and sometimes i write poems, generally in portuguese, but i mix languages and write in english at times

i usually make cute things! whenever i happen to make something scary or with sensitive topics, i let it with the warnings i think it needs. personally, i'm positive about NSFW topics, specially sexual-related ones, in regular conditions. however, i very rarely allude to NSFW — if anything, it can be there as subtext, if i ever even include anything like that at all. to my mind, these are not NSFW, but either way: i do enjoy artistic nude art, i do like philosophically/sociologically/literarily analytical thoughts and texts that could be about/related to sexual topics, and i also do like (well, you know) horror. i take a different approach on my own art that's around these, but you can avoid it if i ever make it due to the warnings, and i hope you will use the warnings' opportunity to avoid it if you're sensitive or just don't want to see it.

overall, specially for other people like me, i want my space to be a safe space

Undertale, Dead Plate, and Married in Red are my most favorite pieces of media, so i'm drawn towards them most of the time. for the characters in those respectively, Flowey and Sans, Vincent, and Bok-su are my favorites (i know, they're the popular ones... sorry, heh, i genuinely love them)

And thank you omg!! I'm really happy that I've been able to start drawing again, but yes I've been studying different art and using those references!! Omg, his hair is so hard to draw but ever since that reference (I think we may be talking about the same one! It has his hair in three parts and offers different angles, too - has really helped, even with his face shape - which that alone has been so hard to draw. I haven't been able to figure out how to draw his face with the circle method - I'm sorry I don't know what the correct name is but you know the circle and the cross on it method to draw the face? I don't know how to draw his face using that method so it's been interesting figuring it out - just me sharing my drawing shenanigans🤣) it has helped me draw his hair better!! And I know what you mean by feeling like you've gained a new superpower haha, that's how I felt when I started using that hair reference - I was like "wait a minute. I can draw this? And it looks somewhat accurate? 🤯" I get so excited!!

That's how I feel!! The first month of the year always feels like it goes by too fast on top of having no more festivities. It makes me sad to put away my decorations, too, and feel like I need to do so much because of new year's resolutions, etc., but I feel so much better and I hope you're feeling well!!! 🥺 And thank you for the encouraging words to take breaks!! And aww omg, I get so happy when I see the notification for your responses, too!! I'm always like "there's sunsetdoodler!!" And haha, the pipe isn't fixed yet. Thankfully we just shut down that part of the water system (I'm not well acquainted with the terminology here 😅) all other pipes are working fine and everything, it's just this one we closed so it stopped leaking. We're not fixing it until probably Tuesday because that'll be the first day in a week that our temperature reaches over 30 degrees F (we've had some strong winds too that don't help with the cold overall haha). But all is well, the pipe is connected to a faucet we don't use often anyway! A look at RT from a fellow digital media employee

Oof, so RT scandal am I right?

I haven't been in the fandom since ~2018 but following all of this (and specifically the alleged workplace conditions) I thought I'd throw in my two cents as someone who grew up idolizing the company, has chosen to go into digital media because of them and now works in the industry (thankfully not for them).

This will be a long boi (organized into a tumblr-friendly numbered list) based on what I know of the industry in the US, both my own experiences(all thoughts and opinions are my own) & what I've seen of my peers' experiences.

This is also useful info for those interested in pursuing a career in studio-based anim, vfx & game design fields.

To throw in my own cred, I was a member of the RT (and specifically AH & AH art) community from about 2014 to 2018, Monty's work inspired me to pursue my own interests in digital media in a professional sense. I went to uni with my dream internship/job being RT (thankfully that didn't come true). Since then I've graduated and got a job within the industry. So, thanks to having a pretty nice sample of recent grads joining the industry as well as doing my own research on wages and positions before graduation in prep I wanted to take a look at some of the claims and numbers I've been seeing mentioned in this whole mess.

None of this is in defense of RT or in contempt of the ex-employees. RT is a company. People deserve other people's support against a corporation.

Starting with the most quantifiable thing: ✨wages✨. Digital media encompasses a variety of fields - animation, gamedev, vfx, ux etc. & salaries will vary based on both the location and the field that the job is in. From what I've seen among my peers, the avg pay for an entry-level position is about 50-60k for non-LA Bay area jobs(for those add ~ extra 10k from the cost of living). This is not counting additional pay such as overtime, relocation, severance(although I don't know a single person in the field with this condition), or bonuses. Adjusting to what I know of Texas industry salaries, I'd put a good starting industry salary for Austin at 40-50k a year (~20-~25 an hour). Motion Graphics and editing usually pay a bit less than 3D anim positions so the pay could be 5-10k lower than that, which would fucking suck when it comes to cost of living but still doesn't reach the 20k mentioned by Kdin.(20-40k for an LA-based position is just disturbing). Remember that digital media is considered a specialized occupation and generally requires a bachelor's degree (doesn't mean you HAVE to have one) to enter a field so that should be reflected in the salary.

Now onto the most unfortunate part of the industry: overtime (OT) is an industry standard. Everyone joining the industry knows that going in (at least coming out of college). The difference here is that companies should be open about the expected OT/month. My employer for example (all thoughts and opinions are still my own btw) was very clear on how much OT I'd have per month before signing a contract and I am compensated for it. Usually, those who don't get OT comped get higher starting pay. VFX (especially compositing dept) has infamously horrible conditions with insane levels of un-comped OT, crunch, low job security, burnout, and low wages but that at least is an open secret.

Crunch is not just overtime, crunch is sustained OT that exceeds usual expectations. It is more prevalent in studios that have to answer to a client & haven't heard that much about crunch from anim houses now that I think about it? if someone has more experience with serialized anim prod & conditions i'd love to hear from a more reliable source.

To address people's concerns about why certain people(current employees) don't speak up I've seen people bring up NDAs.A Non Disclosure Agreement covers sensitive & internal data (both company secrets and personal identifiable info). An NDA break can be litigated so it's obvious employees don't want to break it. That wouldn't be what is stopping people rn, commenting on this situation would probably fall under some sort of employment guideline. Digital media companies often have extensive guidelines as to what an employee can and cannot say about the company, things that happen in the company, the employees of the company, and other things like this. Now, a breach of guidelines wouldn't be a legal issue, it would just be breaking the contract and be grounds to either have some sort of action against the employee or termination of the contract. It's understandable why folks don't want to lose their jobs for speaking up but the "trouble" they'd get in wouldn't be as big as THE COURT.

I saw someone (don't remember who because of how much info has been coming out) mention offhand RT promising assistance with a work visa & not delivering on the promise & I wanted to quickly bring that up because of my own experiences with this. What they're talking about here is an H-1B lottery application(yes in order to get a work visa in the US you need to win a lottery). This is a process in which the employer(!) petitions the gov't for a non-immigrant work visa for a prospective (or current because these fuckers expire & you have to do the whole lottery all over) employee. There is a lot of documentation, applications, and fees involved, which is why few companies undertake trying to hire international employees. Those who do are at the scale where they have their own immigration attorneys and the H-1B application process is outsourced to a separate law firm. Financially I don't know enough int'l employees to give a blanket statement, but for me, the H-1B application cost was covered by the company and was written into the contract. The records for what companies entered the H-1B lottery are available online & I think like 3 years ago I remember seeing RT having 2-3 applications total?

Union efforts. I don't have a single acquaintance who works under a union in the industry because no one is unionized. I'm not saying RT shouldn't unionize, but their issues seem so far beyond what I've seen at any other company that it's not even comparable to some digital media startups I've seen.

Lastly, I wanted to bring up something extremely subjective when it comes to the field. Any sort of decision of staying or leaving a production company relies on the people you work with, the creative fulfillment, and the stability of your position. Unfortunately, the industry is full of short-term gig positions & project-based contractors. The projects you work on won't be yours, the length of you having a stable income is always up in the air, while the industry is mostly located in the most expensive cities in the country. It's a tough one.

So tldr; the overall digital media field is not peachy with its work conditions but holly fuck what the fuck RT.

If a potential employer promises something, make sure it's stated in your contract~ otherwise, the promise carries no weight.

Always negotiate the terms of employment! You might not get a higher starting salary but you might get a bonus or some other benefit!

If you want to earn a lot of money in digital media become a tech artist or a rigger.

a/n: it’s been like two weeks since i’ve put any new content out but it’s ok. i work at my own pace and that’s all that matters ✨💅

also, i’m making piers about 20 in this game, and making the reader 19-turning-20. yeah, i know. “she’s like ten in the game” oh yeah that’s the game and this is my fic. deal with it.

laying in the tall grass, you let out a soft groan, the summer heat of your hometown postwick starting to get at you. a picnic date was soon to start, and you had everything you needed.

except for your boyfriend.

ever since retiring as a gym leader, he had an absurd amount of time on his hands, even going as far as to helping you and hop with the weird celebrities that wreaked havoc on the poor wild animals of galar. you were sure he missed the action though, but you also knew that deep down, he felt as if it was his fault spikemuth went downhill after refusing rose’s word to move his stadium to a dynamaxing hotspot.

picking at the apples you had cut up, you threw one to your boltund’s begging stance, watching as he ate it up, tail wagging happily before he went to go play with the wild wooloo’s running around the field.

“(y/n)!” piers’s voice called out, and you turned around behind you to see your loving boyfriend carrying a handful of pokeballs, a smile on his face.

“aren’t you hot, piers?” you asked as he neared closer, catching one of the pokeballs he threw at you, “it’s like, a hundred degrees out here.”

“not as hot as you, angel,” he said with a wink, plopping down next to you as he eyeballed the various fruits and sandwiches you had brought along. shaking your head with a laugh, you shifted so you were leaning towards piers.

“how little marn’ doing? last time i saw her, she was so unconfident. totally not like her,” you questioned, popping an apple slice into your mouth as piers took a bite of the sandwich you had made, peccha berry jam smeared on his chin.

“the little squirts’ doin’ fine. she’s handlin’ the gym better than i would have ever done,” he hummed, wiping the jam from his chin. “this is some sweet stuff, you’re really good at making jam.”

“it’s just a pastime hobby, aside from taking care of boltund,” you replied, watching as the yellow dog chased around the wooloo, barking happily.

“mm, that’s right. he’s a rescue, ain't he? he seems so much better now than he used to,” piers said softly, placing the half eaten sandwich down before pulling you into his lap, a small giggle coming from you as his fingertips brushed a sensitive spot on your hips. boltund had been a rescue from a pokemon abuser a while back, and you decided to take him into your team, and it was a wonderful idea. he fit right in after he got healed up, and the energetic dog made everyone happy.

pulling you out of your mind, piers started to place soft kisses on your cheek, making you wrap your arms around his shoulders, kissing him softly. his hands squeezed your hips before rubbing them softly, an action he knew would make you melt. the pokeball he had thrown you was forgotten in your lap as you pulled away, a cheesy grin on your face as piers smiled at you, rubbing small circles on your back.

a few hours passed, and the sun was beginning to set over the fields of postwick, and you didn’t really want the date to end, even though all the food was gone and you lived a trains’ ride away. scratching boltund’s ear, you curled back into pier’s chest, the lying position much more comfortable than the one where you were half on him and half on the blanket under you.

“babe?” he hummed softly, threading a hand through your hair to rub your scalp.

humming in response, you let out a tiny moan, his nimble fingers working wonders on your scalp.

“where’s that pokeball i threw at you earlier? i want you to open it,” he said, moving to where he was laying on his side, gazing up at you. furrowing your brows, you picked up the white ball from between boltund’s paws, the soft snores from your electric-type dog making you laugh.

“this one?” you asked, sitting up as you showed piers the white premier ball in your hand. nodding, he poked your side, urging you to go on. biting your lip, you gently threw the ball in front of you, pale pink light brightening in front of you before disappearing, a zigzagoon in the ball’s spot. letting out a soft gasp, your eyes widened as the pokemon jumped in your lap, licking at your face. wrapping your arms around it in a hug, you turned to piers with tears in your eyes, only to see him sitting up like you, a ring in his fingers.

“p..piers,” you croaked, your fingers digging into the zizagoon’s soft fur as your boyfriend coughed awkwardly in front of you.

“(y/n), i know it’s been a weird two years with me, but it’s been the best time of my life with you, and i seriously wouldn’t trade it for the world. i want to continue this life with you, so, would you like to get married?” he said confidently, something you rarely heard him be, and it only brought more tears to yours eyes. not trusting your words, you nodded happily, trying not to cry as he slid the engagement ring onto your finger before kissing your knuckles, and then bringing you into a tender kiss, the temperature dropping quite a bit. pulling back due to lack of air, you let out a breathy laugh, the tears finally falling as you smiled at piers, the soft smile on his face making your heart swell.

“i found the little stinker on my way here, and i know how much you loved zigzagoon before he evolved into linoone, so i figured we could raise him together, ya know?” he murmured, leaning to press a chaste kiss against the corner of your mouth, “i also figured he could be the start to our family now.”

“he’s adorable, piers, thank you,” you said softly, rubbing the pokemon’s head as he sat between you and piers, the nearly-set sun casting a deep golden hue on everything in sight.

“i hope the ring is ok, i figured you didn’t want nothin too flashy or fancy,” he hummed, interlacing his fingers with yours as he brought your hands to his lips once more, his lips ghosting against the flat of your hand.

“it’s wonderful piers, just like you,” you said, looking down at the simple band, a small quartz stone in the middle, before looking back up at your now-fiancé with a tender smile.

“oh hush now,” he groaned, a dark blush coating his pale cheeks, enjoying hearing you snicker from making him blush.

“oh, by the way (y/n),” he stated, wrapping his arms around you before bringing you back down to the ground with him, the zigzagoon curling up on your stomach.

“hm? it better not be another ring,” you teased, poking his chest as he shook his head.

“no that’s not it, happy birthday. that’s what i wanted to say.” he whispered softly, lips brushing against yours briefly before kissing you once more under the galarian night sky.
