Vintage Pyrex and Flamingos
Although Labor Day is past, we are technically still in summer for a little longer, and the weather is quite hot. Before the temperatures begin to cool and autumn arrives, here is a charming arrangement of vintage Pyrex and flamingos by Rebecca Lee Neft from the Decorating with Pyrex group on Facebook.
Tumblr media
Pyrex patterns seen include the much-loved classic pink and white Gooseberry (1957 - 1966) and that looks like a Seville (1971 - 1972) casserole and lid on the bottom shelf!
Gooseberry, along with the Butterprint pattern, were introduced in 1957 as part of the opalware Pyrex line, preceded only by Snowflake and Pink Daisy.
Seville has a solid tangerine bottom and a white lid with a stylized floral medallion design.
Known for her creative displays, Rebecca is hailed as the Pyrex Queen of our decorating group. Thank you, Rebecca, for your kind permission to share this wonderful grouping!

Hi hi! Since were talking about rocks, do you have any tips on storing/cleaning them, esp in regard to moisture and sunlight? Im a beginner collector and id love to hear if you have some insight, because im kind of lost. Thank u love your blog <3
Welcome to the hobby!! Rockhounding is the most fun thing in the world; I hope you're having a blast.
So there’s no easy answer for this question, because it’s going to be different for every single rock. Halite should be stored somewhere dry, and never get wet. Laumontite should be stored in water, and never get dry. You see how this can quickly become complicated. Here’s some general advice.
Direct sunlight is bad for rocks. Don’t display them in a windowsill unless you’re okay with their colors fading. Not every rock will fade, but fluorite is especially notorious for this. Artificial light should be okay, but some rocks are SUPER reactive to any kind of light. Proustite will permanently darken and discolor when exposed to light, and realgar will disintegrate into a super toxic dust. Keep rocks like that stored in complete darkness. Fused/reconstituted quartz (the stuff crystal balls are made of) will focus sunlight like a magnifying glass and burn your house down. Keep that one covered with a cloth or something.
Humidity is also generally bad for rocks, but especially hematite, meteorites… basically anything with iron. They’ll rust. Halite (rock salt) will actually absorb moisture in the air, weep it out later, and make a mess wherever you’re displaying it. Store them somewhere dry! If you just have them on a shelf or something they’re probably fine, as long as they’re not in your steamy bathroom. But if you live somewhere super humid, or if you’ve got a meteorite in your collection, your rocks might benefit from a dehumidifier. (I currently do not have a dehumidifier, but the two meteorites in my collection are doing okay. So it’s really up to you if you want to sink money into that extra bit of protection. Your rocks might be fine without it.)
On the flip side, some rocks do need to stay wet, or they’ll become brittle, spontaneously crack, or slowly disintegrate into dust. The best solution is to store these rocks in water, but I have an excellent specimen of laumontite which I’ve given a coating of diluted clear craft glue, which has made it fairly watertight and able to be displayed on a shelf. Hanksite is another mineral that can change its moisture level and fall apart, but simply rubbing some mineral oil on it about once a year is all it needs. Don’t try that with opals. If an opal was sold to you in water, keep it in water. If it was sold to you dry, it’s probably fine to let it stay dry.
Never never never get pyrite wet.  Pretty much all specimens of pyrite will get Pyrite Disease and disintegrate eventually just due to small amounts of moisture in the air, but a stable specimen could last for decades.  Get it wet, and you guarantee it an early death.  If you have a pyrite specimen with Pyrite Disease (it will be turning powdery, brittle, and blue-grey), store it away from your other rocks.  It’s giving off fumes that could potentially damage them.
Cleaning! Most moisture-safe rocks can be cleaned with some warm, soapy water and a toothbrush. Be gentle when scrubbing softer rocks, like anything below 3 on the mohs scale. Quartz is basically indestructible, you can totally run quartz through a dishwasher.
To remove rust stains and dirty-looking discoloration, soak your rocks in Iron Out for a few hours. Rinse and repeat with a fresh bath as needed. Most rocks will be fine with this. Not hematite. For obvious reasons, don't use Iron Out on hematite.
To remove crusty white coatings on quartz or agate (probably a layer of Ugly Calcite), soak them in dilute acid. You can buy a jug of muriatic acid at Walmart. Add a little bit of acid to some water in a pyrex bowl, and soak the rocks overnight. Some rocks will NOT be fine with this, so look up whether your $800 specimen is acid soluble BEFORE you put it in the acid bath. (This is a mistake you will only ever make once.) Quartz is fine, quartz is immortal.
If your rock is comprised of hair-thin crystals like rutile or aurichalchite, looks “fuzzy” like okenite, or has a velvety texture like rosasite or velvet malachite, don’t clean it! Try to touch it as little as possible! Handling the rock can easily break those delicate crystals.
In that vein, some rocks give off nasty fumes or dangerous dust. Native mercury, or anything radioactive or asbestiform, should be kept in sealed glass or plastic jars/boxes. Don’t try to clean or handle them!  (You may have heard the myth that tiger eye is asbestiform.  This is a common misconception!  Tiger eye is a form of quartz, which is safe to handle and does not require special storage.)
If you’ve used a dish for cleaning or storing rocks, don’t use it for cooking or eating! Some rocks contain arsenic, lead, mercury, or about a billion other toxic substances that you don’t want making their way into your body. Get in the habit of washing your hands after handling your rocks, even “safe” rocks like quartz, which can contain traces and inclusions of other, more dangerous stuff. (Although, as someone who has touched WAY too many incredibly toxic minerals with my bare hands - it’s not gonna instantly kill you. Seriously, just wash your hands, you’re fine.)
Anyway, all that being said, your best friend is google. “How to store (rock),” “how to clean (rock),” “is (rock) toxic,” “is (rock) water soluble” are all things you should look up whenever you get a new specimen! You might go down a rabbit hole and end up learning something really cool!

Agee Pyrex - Bazaar (also known as Turquoise Blossoms) 1960s
Agee Pyrexware is Australian Pyrex. The name comes from the initials of “Australian Glass.” It was first made in Australia in 1931 by the Australian Glass Manufacturers’ Company. Agee Pyrex were all clear until the 1960s when the opal line was introduced from the UK.

10 Pyrex Patterns That Cost A Pretty Penny!
Vintage Pyrex has a thriving community of collectors that more often than not are willing to pay quite a few bucks for the vibrant kitchenware. While these Pyrex-pursuers will try to collect all Pyrex patterns, some are more sought after than others. Here are the top 10 most expensive patterns in the Pyrex community:
10. Pink Daisy
Tumblr media
ETSY: $75.00  EBAY: $134.99
The Pink Daisy pattern was introduced in 1956 and discontinued in 1963. This pattern was introduced alongside another popular pattern, Snowflake. This pattern was the first to be printed on a solid color. This pattern has come back into popularity, as you can see with my first blog post people have even DIY-ed this pattern to avoid the big price tag.
9. Rainbow Stripes
Tumblr media
ETSY: $225.00 EBAY: $149.00
This pattern was in production from 1965 to 1987 in four colors: blue, pink, sandalwood, and yellow. Collectors often mix and match these colors together, and can build a 64-set nesting bowl collection, however the full set might cost a hefty price tag. Fear not, as single bowls come at reasonable prices.
8. New Dots
Tumblr media
Photo by Microwave Cooking for One
ETSY: $275.00 EBAY: $189.99
Known as one of the most popular Pyrex patterns of all time, this collection was released in five different colors from 1969 to 1973. These colors included red, blue, yellow, green, and orange. Much like Rainbow Stripes, single bowls may come at a reasonable price but a full set may cost an arm and a leg.
7. Snowflakes (Blue Garland)
Tumblr media
ETSY: $325.00 EBAY: $289.99
Introduced alongside the Pink Daisy pattern in 1956, this pattern remained on shelves until 1967. The most popular version of this pattern is white snowflakes on a turquoise background, however there are other variations (blue on white).
6. Balloons
Tumblr media
ETSY: $300.00 EBAY: $350.00
Produced in 1958, the balloon design was the first patterned promotional item that was offered as a Chip and Dip set. It was only available for a limited time and was also used as a salad and dressing set and a punch bowl set. This set comes with a metal bracket to hold the bowls.
5. Atomic Eyes
Tumblr media
ETSY: N/A EBAY: $495.00
Atomic Eyes, or just Eyes, was another Chip and Dip set produced by Pyrex from 1950 to 1959, the exact date of first production is unknown. The Pyrex stamp found on the bottom of each Pyrex dish does not appear on some of these patterned bowls. This set also comes with a metal bracket, like the Balloons set.
4. Gooseberry
Tumblr media
ETSY: $398.00 EBAY: $550.00
The entire pattern collection includes four nesting bowls, a 12-piece casserole set, and an 8-piece refrigerator set. It was also one of the first four printed patterns released on opal Pyrex. This pattern also had several color variations: pink on white, white on pink, black on yellow, black on white, and gold on beige. The most popular version is the white on pink design. This pattern was also one of the first patterns printed on Cinderella bowls, stackable mixing bowls with spouts on either side.
3. Pink Stems
Tumblr media
ETSY: $475.00 EBAY: $774.95
Pink Stems, or Stems, only came on a small casserole dish and not on a set. This pattern was released in 1968 as a promotional item, but due to its rarity not much else can be found about it.
2. Butterprint
Tumblr media
ETSY: $664.99 EBAY:$1,315.19
Butterprint, released in 1957, was one of the first printed patterns on the opal ware Pyrex line, following Snowflake and Pink Daisy. This pattern has an Amish farm theme printed on them, and was released in several colors such as pink and orange. Along with Gooseberry, Butterprint was one of the first patterns printed on Cinderella bowls.
1. Lucky In Love
Tumblr media
Photo by Microwave Cooking for One
ETSY: N/A EBAY: $4,250.00 (2015)
The Holy Grail of Pyrex, this pattern is so rare that none can be currently found on either of these sites but the last known eBay sale was in February of 2015. This pattern, like the Pink Stems pattern, only came on one dish and was not a set. What makes this print so rare is that the company says Lucky in Love was a limited release. The print was rereleased in 2018, but the vintage still reigns supreme.
Prices listed are current (10/24/20) and from Etsy and eBay, two massive selling/bidding websites.

MR SMOKE Store - Shop High-Quality Shisha & Hookahs Online
Considering that the culture of hookah shisha is one of relaxation, you need to approach the entire process of hookah buying with consideration. Research the subject, become familiar with the best materials and items, consider the aesthetics--what pleases most and definately will most enhance the smoking experience for you? Quality, beauty, and cost are the broad parameters to consider when you set out to buy hookahs.
Tumblr media
While it's a good idea to have looked at any local #cyprus can be found, and to have tried various hookah pipes at a lounge, the best choice in meeting the above criteria is probably going to be buying online. There's just a much broader range of hookahs available online, without the markup a brick-and-mortar store needs to charge. For that hookah body, also referred to as the vase, or govde, Pyrex glass or ceramic, or another non-porous, tempered material, are the best. Avoid wood or copper. Bases come in sizes from promising small to large along with a multihued array of designs and colors. Stems will usually be stainless or another solid metal, fluted and, again, in a range of heights. Hoses also come in a variety of styles and lengths. The tobacco bowl ought to be ceramic, clay, or metal. You can aquire a hookah with one hose fitting or multiple hose fittings. There are a variety of sites where one can build your own hookah from a selection of parts, and others where you can order custom hookahs. There exists a wide selection of high quality hookahs available ready-made, however. Egyptian hookahs are apt to have hand-blown glass bases in jewel and opal-toned colors, while Syrian hookahs have exquisitely ornamented ceramic or glass bases. Beyond these traditional styles there is a plethora of modern interpretations, animal shaped hookahs, mod hookahs, mini hookahs, traveling hookahs filled with carrying case, and rotating hookahs. Most hookah purchases will come with individual bowl, stem, plate, base, and hose or hoses, in separable parts for ease of cleaning, and include tongs for coals, screens, brushes for cleaning, and instructions. Many will also come having a carrying case and additional rubber stoppers, some hookah tobacco and charcoal.

Incorporating Retro Elements in Your Kitchen Renovation
Collecting vintage charms doesn’t have to be an intimidating undertaking. You can incorporate charms into your kitchen in small ways to bring warmth and character to your home.
Firey cherry red is a retro color that evokes 1950s diners and cherry pie. Use it on an accent wall or in cabinetry for a bold look.
Add a Touch of Glamour
Achieving the look of vintage charm doesn’t mean you have to rework your entire kitchen. Instead, add a few classic touches that will create a mesmerizing space you’ll love to cook in now and into 2023.
One simple way to incorporate vintage flair into your kitchen is to use bold colours that evoke the era. Consider a turquoise backsplash or painting your walls with sage green or dusty champagne hues. Pair these colours with a graphite or white countertop and stainless steel sink.
Another easy way to get a retro feel is to display collections of vintage items. Whether it’s antique plates, Pyrex bowls or a mix of old-school teacups and coffee mugs, displaying these collectables will instantly make your kitchen feel homey and cozy.
Don’t forget to add some whimsy and personality with creative lighting ideas that will highlight your unique collection of heirlooms. From string lights to hanging jars, there are so many ways you can light your kitchen with style.
Go Bold with Color
Adding retro elements is an opportunity to showcase your personal style. Colors like sage green and dusty champagne are great for a modern kitchen remodel, but you can also go full-blown vintage by painting your cabinets in pastel colors. A bold color adds a sense of drama that will help your kitchen stand out from the crowd.
A classic linoleum floor is another way to add some vintage charm to your kitchen. While this material was largely replaced by sheet vinyl in the ’60s and ’70s, it’s making a comeback for homeowners who appreciate its eco-friendly materials.
If you’re feeling especially adventurous, swap out your stainless steel appliances for vintage-inspired models. A variety of manufacturers offer kitchen appliances in antique colors such as a fiery cherry red (think 1950s diners and cherry pie). You can even find patterned refrigerators inspired by the popular patterns of Pyrex(r) opal glass. Add a touch of character by displaying vintage tableware on the counters or shelving, choosing wooden tools instead of modern metal ones, and selecting padded stools over metal bar chairs.
Create a Focal Point
Focal points are often the hallmark of a vintage home, and they’re easy to create with a little creativity. In a kitchen, focal elements draw the eye and bring character to a space. Focal points can include anything from a custom ventilation hood to an intricate backsplash pattern, a unique-colored appliance or even a bannister with beautiful woodwork.
A bold backsplash serves an essential function by protecting your walls from food and drink splatters, but it can also become a strong decorative element. Opt for a herringbone, chevron or hexagonal pattern to create a distinct design.
An old butcher block can serve as a great spot to display heirloom dishes and other collections. You can also add a pop of color by displaying mismatched plates and bowls. Other accessories like greenery, a set of old-style cookbooks and utensils with a vintage flair can help tie in your retro kitchen style. Ultimately, the goal is to make it feel as if you’re stepping back in time when you walk into your kitchen.
Infuse Retro Elements
Incorporate vintage elements throughout your kitchen renovation for a truly authentic look. From major features like cabinetry and appliances to small details like hardware, mirrors, rugs, and furniture, it’s easy to add a sense of history and nostalgia to your home.
Mix contrasting colors for an eye-catching retro style. Sunshine yellow and bright blue work together beautifully for a bold yet fun design palette, or opt for a more muted look with turquoise tones.
Wood accents are also an excellent way to infuse a classic vintage charm into your space. Whether it’s a decorative wooden bowl, a nontraditional bookcase, or a set of nesting tables, a simple addition of natural wood can instantly give your home a vintage feel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best budget for a Metro Vancouver kitchen remodeling project?
For a kitchen renovation in Metro Vancouver, a budget of $50,000 is realistic. This would cover new appliances and countertops, flooring, cabinets, flooring, and lighting.
What place should a refrigerator be in the kitchen?
The refrigerator goes between the sink and stove. The fridge should be placed close to your cupboards so that you can get what you need quickly.
Planning permission is required for a kitchen remodel.
You will need permits to change the locations of electrical and plumbing. You may also need to apply for a building permit if you’re making structural changes to your walls to accommodate these changes.
If you’re unsure whether or not you need planning permission, it’s always best to check with your local authority before proceeding with any work.
Which place should a fridge be located in the kitchen
A refrigerator should be placed next to the sink for easy access. It should not be blocked by traffic or too close to a stove.
Do cabinets need to be darker or lighter than the walls?
There are no set rules. This is an individual decision. It will depend on your kitchen size, shape, style, and other factors. It is possible for dark cabinets to make your kitchen seem smaller or more cramped if it is small. The space will feel brighter and larger if you have lighter cabinets.
Dark cabinets can make a large kitchen feel more intimate and cozy. While lighter cabinets will open up the space, they will be more functional.
It’s up you to decide the look and feel that you want in your kitchen. The cabinet colour you choose will also be up to you. A professional designer can help you make the best choice for your space if you are still not sure.
How do I figure out my budget for a kitchen renovation?
The following guidelines will help you to determine your budget.
The first step is to estimate the cost of materials you will need for your remodel. These materials include countertops, cabinets, paint, tile and lighting.
Check out the average cost for labor in your area. Add these numbers to your total budget.
Add up all labor and materials costs to finish your project. Divide that number by how many square feet you have in your kitchen. This calculates the cost per square inch.
Add any savings that you expect from doing some work yourself, or purchasing materials at a discounted price.
To cover unexpected costs, add a contingency between 10 and 20 percent.
These are only estimates. To get a more accurate idea of your kitchen to remodel budget, consult a professional contractor.
This will allow you to develop a budget that fits your kitchen renovation. You should keep in mind that the cost of your kitchen renovation will depend on the materials and the scope of your project.
Statistics
Your most significant cost investment for a kitchen remodel will usually be cabinets, typically comprising 25 percent of your budget. (hgtv.com)
“We decided to strip and refinish our kitchen cabinets during a heat wave with 90-plus-degree temperatures and 90 percent humidity in a house with no air conditioning. (familyhandyman.com)
This is rather grim, but according to Business Insider, 12 percent of couples consider getting a divorce while renovating their home! (familyhandyman.com)
In the Pacific region (Alaska, California, Washington, and Oregon), according to Remodeling Magazine, that same midrange central kitchen remodel jumps to $72,513, and a major upscale kitchen remodels jumps up $11,823 from the national average to $143,333. (hgtv.com)

Empire Glassworks Icy Strawberry Cucumber Detox Mini Water Pipe is the new addition to the Empire Glassworks Detox series. This refreshing design features a mug style worked body, blown with a strong glass handle that will make you forget you're holding a water pipe and not an actual drink. Designed with a 14.5mm female ground joint on a reinforced hanger the ground joint leads down and out into the main chamber through a three-hole diffuser. The extended straw mouthpiece not only looks cool, it helps prevent back-splash through a small entrance hole, limiting space for water to pass. If living a healthy and organic life is what you're about, then it's about time someone catered to our cleansing needs. Empire Glassworks pieces are individually designed by their network of highly skilled glassblowers. These accessories are fashioned in a torch flame by a process called "lampworking?. Only the finest imported glass from Europe and the United States are used in producing Empire Glasswork pieces. Most of the colors of our pieces are custom mixed. Each piece is carefully made and annealed in a kiln at over 1000 degrees Fahrenheit which makes for a stronger more durable product. The higher temperatures are also responsible for the rich natural colors characteristic of Empire Glassworks pieces. Many of their shapes come from customer suggestions. Enjoy!
