1. Song of the year? okay this year led me to rediscover Placebo's cover of Running Up That Hill, which I listened to obsessively as a teenager when I discovered it from the OC, which I only started watching when I went to boarding school. I have listened to this song SO MUCH. My spotify wrapped says Civilian by Wye Oak is my top song this year but it was also one of my top songs last year so it doesn't count.

14. Favorite book you read this year? *through a bullhorn* PAUL TAKES THE FORM OF A MORTAL GIRL BY ANDREA LAWLOR. I loved it...I recommend it to everyone I know...but also I read a lot of very good books this year and particularly a lot of compelling non fiction. Also I am currently rereading The Hunger Games and it fucking slaps, as usual. perfect way to end the year.

25. Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one. For Swash's book I created this spymaster in training nicknamed Quickhatch Jack. They're Swash's best friend, pragmatic, and all about the long game and the big picture. One aspect of Swash's journey is placing individual survival above national interests, and I wanted Jack to be a foil and place national interests above personal desires. I wanted a character like this who did it out of a fierce sense of duty. Both characters prioritize survival, but in different ways and on different levels. On a personal level, this strains their relationship, but they also have to work together! I liked Jack because their real name is Jack Firn, but they're sort of coded as a wolverine, and Quickhatch is a regional name for a wolverine :) I named them Jack because of the mountain named Seven Fingered Jack, which I thought was a fun starting name for someone who was a spy.
