any thoughts about Hoult's Renfield ending up in an asylum like in the book? Do you think Drac and him just had a Big Fight and he ended up there or do you think they just erased that part of his story in that universe?
I think Houltfield def spent time in the asylum because Houltfield is based on if not IS Fryefield from Dracula 1931, which largely disregards the book. And there's a very brief scene in the black and white portion of Renfield 2023 where you see Houltfield entering a room and he's got his maniac hunch goin', where he's saying "Look, I didn't just 'jump in' to serving the Prince of Darkness, we had some great times!", that is a direct scene from Dracula 1931 of Renfield eavesdropping on/ interrupting a conversation between Van Helsing and Seward.
So Houltfield's story is "real estate lawyer who travels up to meet Dracula, Dracula falls for him/tells his wives "jk this one is mine back off," travels on the Vesta with Dracula to England (by that point he is fully Familiarised), gets into the asylum (but breaks out frequently ig?), tries to save Mina from becoming a bride(?), gets killed because Drac thinks he led Harker and Van Helsing to the Abbey... and then we can assume Dracula didn't die for whatever reason (Van Helsing didn't use a proper stake? He didn't hit Drac's heart?) and managed revived Renfield and they both went like, fuck, we need to get out of here." And then almost a century passes and then we get Renfield 2023. Right????

and the dead, the living, the undead, the unliving—there is nobody else here.
[ID: An illustration of a person dancing with a skeleton while a figure that looks like them looms in the back. The person is drawn in a blocky, cartoony style, wearing a black dress with a slit, and their hair is in a low ponytail. They're sweating, looking off to the side with a frown, and very stiffly holding a skeleton in a dip. At the top left of the canvas is a silhouette of a person with the same hairstyle backlit by a yellow rectangle. The background is a wavy checkerboard pattern in black and magenta. Bubble letter text is written in the top right: "And I Know It's" and in the bottom left: "Just Me". End ID]

at this point these “just a poll” blogs are being extremely irresponsible for publishing polls that are specifically designed to try and stir infighting and discourse in the queer community (or any community really). even if they operate on submissions, there should be a curation process that prevents this type of shit from becoming the next hotly debated topic because it’s Not Fucking Funny to have to see that shit. sure it’s “nice” to have everyone in the notes be like yes omg (x) belongs in the community!!!!! but its like. we aren’t supreme court judges, we aren’t monarchs, why the fuck are we even Debating this shit in the first place. its cruel and irresponsible and i’m actually starting to get fed the fuck up

I used to purposefully play Rockstar by Nickelback at afters just so when people would moan about it I could call them liars for pretending they didn’t like the song and that I knew they knew all the lyrics by heart and then the song trended last year.

vets on social media will post the most disturbing graphic content with little to no warning just in hopes a bleeding heart will donate and ngl i think you should eat shit x3 for reminding me bestality exists on a fucking tuesday. i think maybe you should remember kids are on these fucking sites. i think you should learn how to properly censor shit but better yet don't even post it if it serves no purpose expect to traumatize other people. there's a difference between "don't give your dogs bones" and "here's the worst thing you could imagine happening to an animal happening that you can't even prevent".
you chose the job, i didn't. i didn't choose to fucking expose myself to this. i just wanted to watch funny animal videos but the algorithm can't fucking take a hint so now i get to see your depraved content instead of a dog eating peanut butter and i'm this close to a breakdown.

a few bits of religious paraphernalia that shiloh’s got. only a bit, though - they’re a serious creature of belief
long explanation of some religious worldbuilding below the cut :]
in the religion which Shiloh observes, the number 9 is considered sacred, which informs a very large amount of the practices surrounding it. the most common sacred symbol is a spiral of 9 points, often called the spiral of thorns, the briar fern, or occasionally the ink thistle. carrying the spiral of thorns is not required, but is encouraged as an aide to keeping one’s faith in mind, as well as a physical anchor for prayer.
although for convenience (for both the inhabitants as people and me as a writer) regardless of faith most use a seasonally based calendar similar the gregorian calendar, the followers of shiloh’s faith have minor holy days each 9 days, independently from it. since they do not fall on any set date, those who travel often or live in rural places keep track of the days using threads of 9 beads, with a knot that can be loosened to slip beads individually from one side of the string to the other each morning, until all are together on a holy day. said days run in a cycle of 3 - the first is celebration (analogous to the 9th of the month in our calendar), the second suffering/atonement (the 18th), and the third is mourning/preparation (27th, such as today).
this third day is a day of remembrance wherein the dead are honored and graves visited, frequently the recently passed are given ceremonies of farewell if it is unfeasible that a funeral/wake be held directly. for the living, it is a time to reflect on the past 26 days, and prepare for the next. the day of mourning is often used by adherents to tidy living and ritual spaces, seen as a sort of ‘washing clean’ before the next cycle begins. it is traditional to use bare hands and water to quench the ashes of the hearth fire (or campfire, as the case may be) to symbolize the acceptance of past actions, and then clean one’s ashen hands in running water, to move on from those actions and become better. specialized prayers are spoken at night or early morning, generally just before falling asleep.
food plays a very important part in many holidays and prayers, even minor ones. although it is rare outside of large churches (and therefore prohibitively hard to find and expensive) ritual blessed ink is ingested by followers, either daily, on holy days, or in church services, as available. in Shiloh’s hometown, it was a local tradition to eat a different style of food each holy day, with meat skewers on the third day. it is a tradition that Shiloh still follows, as is common to many travelers - the great wilds are heavily influenced by tradition and superstition.
Shiloh is very careful to observe the day of mourning with as much diligence as possible, forsaking unnecessary travel for the sake of prayer, cooking, and (if needed) laundry, mending, and weapon maintenance.
