«Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness. Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.

For all the younger folks here that may not understand why Paul Reubens was so beloved that many grown adults are in tears today (myself included), I urge you all to watch at least a couple episodes of Pee Wee's Playhouse.
Pee Wee Herman represented the quintessential child in everyone: Curious, silly, imaginative, and above all, kind to those around him--no matter how different or even outlandish they were. He also lived in a world that was genuinely magical, and that kids everywhere dreamed of being able to visit.
Even outside of the playhouse, Pee Wee brought that magic with him as he searched for his bike in Pee Wee's Big Adventure--one of the most off-the-wall but widely beloved films ever made.
Though Paul may be gone, Pee Wee will live on forever. I envy those who can still experience him and his wonderous playhouse for the first time. It will be up to you younger generations now to keep that magic alive.

Rest in Peace, friend.
Paul "Pee Wee Herman" Reubens
(August 27, 1952 – July 30, 2023)
Pee Wee's Playhouse shaped so much of my humor and personal aesthetic growing up, as did Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
The worst part about growing older is that everyone else continues to as well. I've lost many childhood heroes that helped make me who I am today. 💔
At least now, he can be reunited with Phil Hartman, and they can write comedy together somewhere beyond the stars.
