Reposted from @chy_leigh FRIENDS PLEASE take a few minutes and read this article. It’s SO profound and @officialdaniellelopresti brings such a unique and powerful perspective to how imperative it is we understand and embrace the magnitude of how #blacklivesmatter Such an eye opening piece ❤️ PLEASE READ AND SHARE Repost from @createchange.me • It was just over a year ago today that Ahmaud Arbery, a young Black man, was jogging near his Georgia home on 02/23/2020 when two white supremacists pulled up next to him and shot him. This unarmed young man, who was doing nothing but living his life, had it snuffed out in an instant. At Create Change our mission is to encourage and inspire each member of our community to be the change they want to see in the world. Today, we are incredibly proud to share an article written by our dear friend, Daniel LoPresti @officialdaniellelopresti titled “White Parents, All I Want From You Is What You Want From Me”. It’s a powerful and incredibly heartfelt message discussing unconscious racism and urging us to “Practice seeing Black people as your siblings in this human family, who deserve nothing less than our utmost respect, atonement and appreciation.” Please make time to read this article. We hope it encourages and inspires some meaningful reflection and conversation. #FoodForThought Needing to educate yourself if #racist/#racial/#racism situations/experiences is a privilege. We live these experiences everyday through interactions with people and through media [especially Hollywood] false narrative depictions of black people and other people if color. #live #learn #educate #reeducate #spreadlove #spreadknowledge #onelove #RevelationaryThoughts #RevolutionaryThoughts Reposted from @theconsciouskid "Reminder that the 'micro' prefix in 'microaggression' isn't a measurement of the size of the slight. Intersectionality is the overlapping social identities of our race, class, religion, sexuality, and political beliefs. We’re not one of the same but these identities bring us together as people.

Even as the word ‘intersectionality’ is becoming more common, its meaning is becoming less clear. When words move from a specialized arena into the mainstream, they often get a little flabby: their sharply delineated corners blur a bit as the word is passed down a long line of speakers.

Intersectionality and Race & Gender
Intersectionality is the overlapping of various social identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, and class contributes to the specific type of systemic oppression and discrimination experienced by an individual. This is just one of the many definitions of the word Intersectionality that has been coined as one of the most popular words in today's culture. It is the belief that our oppressions are linked and cannot be solved alone. We all come from different backgrounds, have different stories, and belong to different categories but by Intersectionality these identities we can identify with others and share a common ground. This weeks topic was very enlightening for me because I have always felt that I didn’t relate to others. I am a Native Hawaiian female born in Hawaii who now calls Las Vegas there home. Growing up, Hawaiian was my native tongue and it was something that I loved but also was embarrassed about. When I took dance lessons they would have us write the choreography down but I didn't know how to write in English and was told that I couldn't write it in Hawaiian. From that early age is what stemmed having no confidence and what led me to feel so alone. As I grew older I found a passion for reading and writing and no longer felt that isolation but still felt different wherever I went. Intersectionality has been insightful in understanding that even though I feel different there are others who are native to one place and speak a particular tongue and that we are not alone.
