Well, now I know by whom Ubisoft was inspired, whent they were creating this elite skin. Smoke is a 36 years old man, why are you making a teenager from him? In my opinion, this skin is a wasted potential :/

with all the new nighthaven-being-criminals tomfuckery, i'm wondering how that's gonna work with the rainbow defectors (smoke, ela, etc)... and also the fact that a future season's op is allegedly (as in, got this from an unsourced "leak" screenshot) a nighthaven dude :thonk:

One way the arc could develop is with Rainbow trying to find proof of NH's criminal ties and activities, to convince the defectors (and hopefully some NH ops, like Aruni) to act as sources of inside information in their mission to take down NH. The new op (for season 3, I mean, in season 2 we have Sens) seems it will be a NH dude, yes. Either we'll get some insight on what has been NH doing, or he's a mole working in fact for Rainbow.

As for the possibility of NH just being incriminated and not actually supplying/working with criminals... I think it would render all this defection arc pointless? Cause then okay, let's assume it's all a misunderstanding and NH are being duped and there's a real Big Bad to be revealed trying to make Rainbow fight NH for some reason... then what's the fucking point of having operators divided into 2 different organizations?? Cause NH isn't like the squads from Rainbow, they don't answer to Six, don't follow anyone's rules but Kali's whims and are a separate entity from Rainbow... is the game then gonna be called Rainbow and Nightahve Six Siege? Ridiculous. Will NH come back into Rainbow and be just another squad? Then this whole splitting off and poaching operators arc is unnecessarily dramatic and a waste of time 🤷

However, the writers are kinda in an awkward position, I think, cause the NH ops will have to remain in the game (you can't remove paid content, like elites and skins), so they can't kill them off, can't make them real bad guys cause they're still in the fucking game alongside Rainbow ops. That's why I think they're gonna drag on this tension for a loooong time before revealing anything, same as they did with the Kali vs. Ash thing during the Invitational arc.

So my expectatives are very low, I'm just here for the ride and to pick whatever canon bits I like to incorpore into my own stories and HCs. And if possible, to get a glimpse of Kapkan and/or Glaz in one of the animations. Doesn't even have to be the CGI, and they can be on the background of a wide shot, I don't care! Just a glimpse, please, Ubi!

smoke x reader ; progression part I ; meeting

as you slowly peeked your head around the corner, your arms hugged tightly against your chest, the laughter and chatter coming from inside the room made you feel slightly more at ease, maybe they're not as uptight as you thought.

"James, no way Harry would let you into the field like this, you look like you're about to spray paint some abandoned building." someone said and the rest of the group laughed.

you heard a scoff then followed by a rough voice retorting, "you guys just don't understand and Mike, don't even try to roast me when you have your quote on quote Operation Nimrod uniform, mine looks so much nicer than yours. whatever i'm out, peace."

soon footsteps approached closer and closer to you till a tall male came into your sight, his posture relaxed with a red and white jacket around his body, a gas mask hanging loosely around his neck and three black bottles with yellow tapes around it hanging from his waist belt.

he turned around, gave you a glance then walked out of the room and when he had his back to you, you noticed a large scar on the back of his neck and the formula at back of his jacket reads something like 'arsehole'.

you held back a laugh and mentally prepared yourself to introduce yourself to the group inside that were still chatting away. breathing in deeply and exhaling your worries, you straightened your back and tidied your hair and walked into the room.

as you stepped into the room, everyone's chatter died down and all their attention was on you, the room was silent till a women sitting at the corner of the room spoke up, "you're (y/n) right? Harry told us you were reporting here today."

she spoke with confidence and walked towards you with her hands extended out to you and after you shook her hands, she pulled you into a tight hug, "my name's Yumiko Imagawa, but you can call me by my code name, Hibana, it's easier that way."

Hibana smiled and pulled away from the hug and gestured you to sit down the with rest of the crew, "come sit, we'll take turns to introduce ourselves. you came at the wrong time, James just left, you should have seen his ridiculous outfit."

and once the rest heard about the other guy's outfit, which your assumed is James, the chatter and laughter started up again.

"actually i saw him, uh, James? just now, the guy in the red-" you spoke but a man with a large beard interrupted you before you could finish your sentence.

"you mean the guy in the clown suit? he thinks that Harry would allow him to run around like that." he chuckled and sat upright with his hands extended towards you, "my name's Craig, you'll know my code name soon."

shaking his hand, you felt a little more at ease, they seem like really nice people to be around. the rest took turns to introduce themselves and what their speciality are and once they were done, you managed to memorize a few names.

"alright we're almost out of time, we have about 10 minutes till training at the gym, introduce yourself." Grace also known as her code name Dokkaebi said as she gestured her ipad towards you, "also type your phone number, instagram too by the way."

as you typed you started to introduce yourself and explain your speciality as well as gadget while the rest listened, Elena aka Mira listened and seemed like she's taking notes in her head and once you were done, she nodded her head and spoke up, "that's interesting, we don't have any gadget like yours here in Rainbow. if you don't mind, could you follow me to the testing room later after training? i have some suggestion that can make your gadget even more useful and unique."

you nodded, even though you knew you were gonna be dead tired after training but you still have to leave a good impression.

"great, i'll find you later and James as well, he's still got some issues to his gadget that needs to be solved." Elena babbled and extended her hands to yours again,

"welcome to Rainbow."

with your heart rate pacing, you flopped down onto the bench to catch your breath. it has been hours of physical training, your muscles have never been so sore, the gym was filled with grunts and heavy breathing.

looking up around the room, there were still some unfamiliar faces but you still tired to mentally recalled some names of familiar faces when your eyes glanced over them. Craig's trying to lift weights while Sebastian's spotting him, Grace running on the treadmill at a steady pace, Mike was at the corner doing sit ups-

"hey, if you're done we can leave for the testing room, James's there already and he won't stop texting me to ask me to hurry up." Elena huffed as she wiped the sweat off her forehead.

looking up at Elena, you nodded and stood up, taking your water bottle along with you and headed to the testing room. on the way, Elena started to tell you more about the other operators and their personalities. being the director of Rainbow, she knew about the operators more than anyone else since they would come to her to improve their gadgets or simply to have a chat.

"some of them are still trying to overcome grief or even better improve themselves, i do not know much about you but i hope to in the near future." Elena said calmly, tapping her id card against the reader and just like that, the both of you were in the testing room.

"James's already inside i think-"

a loud voice yelled in frustration from inside the lab and Elena rolled her eyes, "yeap he's inside alright. don't mind James, he's a weird person but enjoyable to be around, if he likes you that is. you can just wait by the glass and i'll go retrieve your gadget, Harry said that he has labeled it in a black box, be right back."

following behind Elena, you looked into the huge room through the glass and there James was, his gas mask on as he threw one of his bottles against the wall where it shattered and yellow gas started pouring out.

"Porter, you are to stop your work in 20 mins time, i have turned on the purifying system. (y/n)'s here to test and improve her gadget." Elena ordered through the announcement system, to which James responded by showing her a peace sign, "manners Porter, manners."

you watched as he walked into the yellow smoke, only to emerge from it sprinting, coughing ad wheezing, through the glass, you could hear his coughing that was mixed with laughter as he swatted his hands back and forth in front of him and when his eyes met yours, James just ignored you and kept playing around with the disappearing cloud of smoke, your presence doesn't bother him one bit.

"(y/n), we'll wait till his toxic clouds are gone then we'll head in. here's your gadget, i'll draw you a plan of the improvement when we get in." Elena said as she handed you your gadget, "he's one weird person," she remarked as you both watch James take off his mask despite there still being a small yellow cloud present, "it's almost like he doesn't care that he'll die from his smoke and just rushes in like that. and that's why even though most of us usually joke about him, we all have the same high level of respect for him. his courage and daredevil personality is what helped him get into Rainbow and accomplish the things that not anyone can do, if you noticed, he has a huge scar on the back of his neck. he got it from saving a child from a collapsing building filled with another kind of toxic gas, he even took of his own mask and placed it around the kid's face. people should look past his weird behavior and instead focus on his bravery."

you listened as you kept your eyes on James, your mind starting to weirdly become more and more interested in him, making you want to know more about him, the things that he went though and what made him the person he is today.

"alright, lets go in, it clear now." she guided you into the room though another door further down the hall of the viewing gallery, "put on some protective gear before we start with the tests." Elena gestured to a rack in the corner of the room.

"this darn thing won't stick no matter what i do, can i just stick double sided tape on it." you heard James remark as started to wear the gear, "and the remote controller still has some delay to the detonation time."

Elena just hummed as she started to draft out what various additions and improvements she wants to add to your gadget, ignoring Smoke who was sitting down with his legs on the table top and fiddling with his mask, "and while you're at it, could you also replace my glass with some of your magic black mirror glass, then i'll be like a anime characters when there's a reflective gleam on the glass, you know what i'm sayin' ?"

she just nodded as James babbled on about the many ideas he has to improve his get up and gadget, "alright (y/n). give me a basic demonstration of how your gadget works and i'll then suggest some of my ideas." Elena said as she looked at you though the control panel in the huge room while James finally stopped talking and direct his attention to you, "whenever your're ready."

you readied yourself then gave her a thumbs up, heaving a huge breath to ready yourself and once you were done preparing, you went to work and started your demonstration, mind concentrated on showing your best side and max out the usefulness of your gadget.

"that's cool." James remarked as he watched you, legs now down from the table and sitting upright.

Elena raised her brow on James's remark, keeping her eyes on you, "this is the first time i've seen you impressed by a new comer but you are right, it is cool and something that Rainbow has never seen. just like Harry said, we need people who will challenge the future of the unit and (y/n) is one of them."

he shrugged and leaned back into the chair, "i know talent when i see one. i did see them earlier today, they were hiding behind the door, no idea what they were doing though." taking his mask back into his hands and fiddling with it once again.

"how many operator did it take for one to catch your eye?" she wondered out loud, looking back down at her clipboard and taking notes.

"speaking of operators, how many has it been already?" he asked.

"many, James, many. i'll discuss with your about your ideas later, after i'm done discussing with (y/n) about some ideas." she nodded as you gave her a thumbs up, signalling the end of your demonstration, "it's going to take some time, do you want to stick around or?"

James let out a yawn and stretched in his chair as if he's been there for a long time, "i'll go get some food to eat, you want anything?" and stood up heading for the door to the exit of the control panel.

shaking her head, Elena gestured for you to come into the control room then shooing James out of the room.

as you walked to the control room, you passed James on the way and he's still fiddling with his gas mask. before you could walk further away from him, he called out to you.

"hey, cool gadget." he commented as he looked at you over his shoulder.

"uh, thank you." you replied, gripping onto your gadget tighter, "yours is uh, fascinating."

he chuckled and looked forward, "oh yeah, i'm gonna go get some thing to eat, you want any?" he kept his gaze forward, slowly starting to walk once again.

"oh, uh a bottle of plain water would be good." you requested and wiped some sweat off your forehead.

he nodded and waved without looking back, making his exit from the testing room.

you turned around stiffly to see Elena grinning at you as she tapped her fingers on the table and you scrunch up your face, why is she grinning at you?

pushing open the door, Elena started laughing, "that's the first time i see Porter that nervous."

"how was he nervous, he's just in a hurry." you reasoned and placed your gadget down onto the table.

"i know him well enough to read through his emotions to know that he wasn't in a hurry, he's being nervous." she chuckled and sat back down on her chair, spreading the draft that she planned out across the table, "come, take a seat. do you wanna sit on the chair that he sat on previously? it's that one there." she joked and pointed to a chair on the opposite side of the table.

you lightly slapped her arms while you felt your face heat up, "not funny." pulling the chair next to hers as she further examined your gadget, with a smile still on her face.

"you've picked out the right chair after all, it's fate." Elena joked even more.

"it's the only other chair here!"

an hour past and Elena was still explaining to you her many ideas, your mind was filled with many possibilities and ideas after she explained hers to you, the both of you were so concentrated in your discussion that you didn't pay any attention to the soft beep of someone tapping their id card against the reader and stepping into the room and making their way to the control room and slowly opening the door.

"we could also increase it's rage to further make it more viable, maybe we could also add some more grips here, makes using it in rainy weather easier." Elena suggested as she sketched even more onto the huge paper.

"hey, you guys know that you need food to feed your brain right." a familiar gruff voice spoke from the doorway.

turning around, you saw James leaning against the door frame with a bottle of water, "finally, my presence has been acknowledged." he stated and proceeded to place the bottle in front of you, "as you asked for."

"thank you James." you said as you reached for the bottled water on the table.

"i'm still far from finishing my discussion with (y/n), it's going to take some time." Elena stated, keeping her eyes on the paper in front of her, "you can stay here if you want, but you're gonna have to sit on the floor."

he nodded and gave the both of you finger guns then moved to the corner of the room and sat down, pulling out his phone to occupy himself while the both of you resumed your earlier discussion.

more hours past as the both of you talked and made cardboard prototypes for the final end product, by this time, James was already asleep in the corner of the room, snoring away.

"alright, i'm sure that will work. finally we're done." Elena sat up and stretched then turning her attention to the sleeping James in the corner of the room, "he really has no consideration for other, first coming here to sleep then snoring like that."

you chuckled and looked at James, who was still snoring away without a care in the world, "give him a break, we all have to sleep."

"not in this way but anyways could you go wake him up, i have to go get some of the material and blue prints. also you can leave your gadget, i'll teach you the return routine next time." Elena said and make her way to the door, "and you can use this chance to make a fairy tale, the sleeping beauty?" she joked and exited the room before you could retort to her comments.

turning to look at James, you slowly walked to him and slowly shook him lightly till his eyes opened, "why do you have to disturb my peaceful sleep." James groaned and started to sit up again, rubbing his eyes to sober himself up even more.

"well sorry, Elena's orders." you mumbled and stood back up, "she's coming back with your stuff soon, i'll make a move first. and thank you for the water, i'll pay you back."

before you could walk out the door, he called you back and raised his phone towards you, "oh yeah, is this your number? Grace added you to the chat room."

looking at the screen, you nodded, "yeah it's my number."

"nice. i'll see you around i guess." he urged and looked back down at his phone.

"see you around too James."

finally walking out of the testing room and getting a breath of fresh air, you noticed that the sky was already dark and you headed to your dorm, till a buzz from your phone stopped you in your steps.

looking at the notification, it was a unsaved number and it reads,

you : you're the sleeping beauty from just now right?

unsaved number (click to show) : i was till you interrupted me  

unsaved number (click to show) : i know that you haven't saved my number yet, do it or i won't buy water for you again

you looked back up and resumed your way back to the dorm, how will Elena react if she found out? either way, the water date is on for tomorrow, for now, you have to unpack your stuff, you're gonna be here for a long time, gotta make yourself at home.
