Nesting
(Y/N) is at the point in her pregnancy where she is now nesting. Erik is confused, but he's going with the flow.
_________________________
Tumblr media
Erik sat at his desk, playing with some of his friends streaming the new Call of Duty game. Being a successful streamer with millions of fans, he now had a life where he could live comfortably and still do what he loved, which was playing games.
Being a gamer is actually how he met the love of his life, (Y/N). Meeting on a discord back in high school, the two of them hit it off. There was only one thing that prevented them from being physically together. He lived in Oakland, and she lived in Miami. Her parents thought she was silly to find love over the internet, calling it a weird phase while his friends thought she was made up.
That was until she surprised him at his high school graduation. Saving for months, working as a moderator and at Chick-fil-A, she was able to save enough money to meet him. With the supervision of her parents of course.
Now here they are, 10 years later married and expecting twins. Two boys and she was over the moon about it. If they were over the moon, Erik was over the planet Jupiter. All of the outfits, baby supplies, and decorations were bought on Erik's behalf. Every time he walked into a store, he always walked out with something for the babies.
She could show him something that she thought was cute for their nursery and within days, it was ordered.
He was always clingy with her, and she loved it. Ever since she was pregnant, it was like he was at her side every second of the day. They were lucky enough to be streamers so they could have that time together, but boy he was obsessed.
His camera roll was filled with pictures of her, showing the journey from when she first found out she was pregnant to the development of the baby bump.
"Damn, why are you so bad, move!" he yelled into the headset.
"Nigga fuck you!" Quan yelled back into the mike making everyone bust out laughing.
"Awe you mad." Chelsea teased him. Eventually, they ended up winning, as they sat on the loading screen talking shit with each other.
That's when Erik heard a bang in the room next door, which just so happened to be the twins' nursery.
"Hold on y'all." he stepped away from his gaming set, walking in to see the baby clothes everywhere and his wife in the middle of the room folding them and placing them in the drawers.
"Mama, what are you doing?" he asked her. She turned to look at him with a pout.
"Baby there is so much to do and we only have a week left until they are due and I can't even-" she was crying at this point, Erik realizing that it was probably her hormones.
"Shh, it's okay. You know I'll help you with anything you need. The doctor wants you to not be on your feet as much." Erik was a little confused by the sudden rush to want to do stuff. Just last night she was in the middle of the kitchen reorganizing the kitchen drawers and the cupboards making room for the twins' bottles. She literally took everything apart.
Or how she decided to wash every piece of clothing and blanket for the babies, even though everything was brand new.
What he said made her cry even harder. "I appreciate you so much baby, y-you are just so good to us and-" she cut herself up hiccuping.
"Here about you go sit in the living room, play a movie and I'll order you some of the spicy ramen you like from the restaurant downtown," he told her helping her stand up.
"Ooh yes. You know the spicy foods can induce labor," she said matter-of-factly. He chuckled at the random fact before saying,
"Once I'm done for the stream tonight, I'll organize their room for you. I don't want you putting any unnecessary stress on yourself." he told her, she pouted before saying,
"You'd really do that?" she whispered as her eyes started to water again.
"Yes, now go relax. I'ma place the order now okay?" he kissed her on the forehead, then on the lips, then on her stomach. He watched his wife walk, well more like waddle, out of the room to make herself comfortable downstairs in the living room. He came back to the station, not before ordering him and his wife some ramen.
"Alright y'all, I'm back. (Y/N) needed help with something." he said getting his player ready for the next round.
"How yo ole woman doin? She should be about ready to pop any moment now right?" Damien, one of his other close friends said.
"Yeah, next week will be the due date," Erik said with a smile. The chat was filled with congratulations from his supporters.
"Awe. Look at you all gushy and shit. Can't believe Stevens gonna be a daddy." Quan teased him as he rolled his eyes laughing. He was about to say something but he heard his wife scream out for him.
"E!" she yelled.
"Hold that thought y'all." he got up and ran downstairs to see his wife downstairs with four big boxes.
"Can you move two to the living room and the other two upstairs for me baby? I'ma get their swings set up. " she said sitting there with a smile on her face.
"What are these?" he asked looking at the boxes.
"The swings," she said still smiling.
"So you bought four of them?" he asked her as she sighed.
"No, two of them we got free with the sponsorship. The other two I did buy so we can have a setup and downstairs. Because apparently, the only bad review is that they are really heavy." she said matter-of-factly. "I'm kinda hungry can we order something?" she said rubbing her stomach.
Pregnancy brain.
"Mama, I told you I was ordering some of the ramen." she looked at him confused before realizing.
"Ugh, I forgot. I'm so slow," she said, face palming herself. "I keep forgetting stuff," she said, her eyes watering.
"No no no, it's okay baby. I know you don't mean to, I'll remember everything for you. Even if it's your social security number." he joked making her laugh.
"Please, I remember my social security number. 832-21-" she paused forgetting the last four. "Oh my god, I can't even remember my last four digits." she panicked. Erik cussed himself knowing he just made it worse. "I can't even remember my social security number. How am I expected to take care of two babies!"
"It's 9382. Don't worry my love. You will be okay, I promise." he grabbed her by the face, kissing her lips as she sighed. "I want you to relax, I'll take care of everything. I promise." he whispered. She nodded before waddling into the living room. After taking two of the boxes upstairs, he came back.
"Sorry, (Y/N) needed me again." he sighed. "For a pregnant lady, this girl is a freaking busybody. She is supposed to be on bed rest." he stated.
"Where is she going?" Chelsea asked.
"It's not where she's going. It's what she's doing. She can't sit down for the sake of her. I woke up last night to her re-organizing the twin's closet. For the third time. It was like two in the morning." he stated.
"That's wild." Damien chuckled.
"Huh," Chelsea said, coming to the realization of something. "What else?"
"She reorganized the cabinets in the kitchen, washed all of the baby stuff even though it's new, and been on a cleaning frenzy for like three days straight," he said.
"You sure she ain't got OCD?" Quan chuckled.
"She doesn't. Actually she's pretty messy but for the last week, it's like she needs everything to be cleaned." Erik replied.
"Erik, it sounds like she's nesting." Chelsea chuckled.
"The hell is that? She ain't no pigeon." Quan replied, making Erik chuckle.
"No you fucking dumbass." Chelsea rolled her eyes. "It's a natural instinct for mothers to want to get their home ready for the baby. It happens with humans and animals. That's why it is called nesting."
"I ain't gonna lie, that's kinda adorable," Damien stated.
Erik's interest peaked, he minimized the game window and opened Google to look at it. "Alright chat, let's learn some new shit," he said clicking the first link.
"So it says that they have an overwhelming desire to organize, clean, and prep for the baby's arrival. That makes a lot of sense." he chuckled.
"Yeah, it's a natural instinct. It's like an itch, she won't be able to stop until the twins are here." Chelsea told him. "It makes sense because she's due next week. When my sister was nesting, my mama told me that it was a sign that babies were about to come. So she might be going into labor within a couple of days. Just gotta roll with it man" Chelsea chuckled.
After the stream was done, he found himself downstairs, seeing her prepping the swings before looking at him.
"Oh, I was just getting the stuff prepared for you. I know-"
"It's okay. I know you can't help but get your hands dirty." he chuckled kissing her on the cheek. She looked at him confused.
"What's with the change of heart?" she asked in confusion.
"You're nesting." he expected her to know what it was, but the look still stayed on her face.
"I'm not a freaking bald eagle, the hell is nesting?" she asked as he chuckled.
"You have this urge to clean up, organize, do a bunch of stuff hands-on. It's called nesting. A sign that Thing 1 and Thing 2 are coming." he said rubbing her stomach. She thought about it.
"Makes sense. I have had this urge to reorganize the pantry also.."

My birthday ended up being exactly what I needed/wanted. ✨
Just a quiet day with my two favorite people. A walk to my favorite coffee place by myself. I took S to the park while K did his Sunday class. We all went to get our favorite smoothies, then the beach, then the pool. I took a nap with S while Kevin edited his book.
We took showers and went to dinner at this cute little ramen place. As a Miami native, I couldn’t believe that I’ve never seen Plantain “sashimi” + guava water on a menu before. Both DELICIOUS.
A troubadour was singing to the restaurant (lots of them come through and play for tips) but this one guy seranaded Sky and made up a song on the spot about her big brown eyes, it was so sweet 🥹
Made Sky some pesto pasta when we got back to our room because she wasn’t big on the food. Went to bed cuddling my two loves. I truly couldn’t have asked for a nicer day 🫶🏽✨

List of Lupin III Part 2 Episodes (that I liked enough to make my partner watch them)
Part 2 of Lupin III has Many Episodes, but overall I found it fun and charming (in a dated kind of way). Please be aware that this is a very old show, and there are still instances of racism/sexism/etc in these episodes (though the worst have not made this list).
I have decided to share the whole list of episodes I noted down to make Partner watch with me as I have been devouring the show entire, much like a snek, but I have also bolded a couple of my Extra Favorite ones.
I cannot speak to the quality of the dub versions, as I have only watched with Japanese audio and English subtitles. I don't think Part 2 is a bad place to start if you want to get into Lupin. It is a very silly show full of shenanigans, which has been bringing me a great deal of joy over the winter.

If you only watch one episode of Part 2 -- make it 145/Wings of Death- Albatross, but if you are going to watch more than one episode for the love of the gods don't watch that one first it will set your standards much too high for the rest of the show.
edit to add: a number of these episodes after 98 can be found on youtube! And in fact youtube has much better subtitling on their subbed episodes than crunchyroll, so I recommend watching them there instead if possible.

Nine People I'd Like To Get To Know Better
Tagged by @littleshopofflorrors and @ladyvampir3 -- thank you! 🖤
Last Song: Concierto de Aranjuez from Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis. I like jazz when it gets chilly outside :)
Favorite Color: I love reds and oranges and deep greens
Currently Watching: Season 4 of Sex Education. Highly recommended for fans of milfy Gillian Anderson and sensitive explorations of identity and sexuality. Ncuti Gatwa is very fun in it as well!
Last Movie/Show: A documentary about the Chernobyl disaster. The HBO series actually left out a lot of stuff like the fact that the government refused to cancel the Kyiv May Day parade shortly after the blast and everyone was just out in the street breathing nuclear fallout until they tasted metal 😬😬
Spicy/Savory/Sweet: Spicy/savory all the way! Just tried a new ramen place last night and I WILL be back
Last Thing You Googled: universities in Miami where Night Island-era Armand could be enrolled in night classes for a fic I'm writing
Thanks for tagging me!

Austin's Culinary Star: A Look at Paul Qui's Restaurant Empire
Tumblr media
Introduction
Austin, Texas, is known for its vibrant music scene, eclectic culture, and, of course, its dynamic culinary landscape. At the heart of this gastronomic hub is chef Paul Qui, a culinary maestro whose innovative approach to food has not only won him accolades but also loyal fans across the globe. From his early days winning "Top Chef" to establishing a restaurant empire that reflects his diverse culinary prowess, Paul Qui is a name that resonates with food enthusiasts. But what's new with Paul Qui? Let's dive into the flavorful world of his culinary creations and see how he's continuing to elevate Austin's food scene.
The Rise of Paul Qui
Paul Qui's journey to becoming a culinary star began with his win on the reality TV show "Top Chef" in 2012. This victory catapulted him into the limelight, but it was his dedication, creativity, and unique approach to food that kept him there. Born in Manila, Philippines, and raised in the United States, Paul Qui's multicultural background significantly influences his culinary style, blending traditional Asian flavors with modern techniques.
Qui: The Flagship Restaurant
Qui, Paul Qui's flagship restaurant in Austin, was more than just a place to eat; it was an experience. Opened in 2013, it showcased his signature style—an eclectic mix of Asian and American flavors with a strong emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation for its innovative dishes and exceptional service. Although it closed in 2016, Qui set the standard for what a modern dining experience should be, leaving a lasting impact on Austin's culinary scene.
East Side King: A Fusion Masterpiece
One of Paul Qui's most beloved ventures is East Side King, a series of food trucks and restaurants offering a creative fusion of Asian street food. Co-founded with Moto Utsunomiya, East Side King started as a humble food truck but quickly grew into a culinary phenomenon. The menu is playful yet sophisticated, with dishes like beet fries, pork belly buns, and Thai chicken karaage that delight the taste buds. East Side King's success lies in its ability to combine bold flavors with an approachable and fun dining experience.
Otoko: A Japanese Culinary Journey
Otoko, another gem in Paul Qui's culinary crown, is a small, intimate restaurant located in the South Congress Hotel. This 12-seat dining destination offers an omakase experience, where diners place their trust in the chef to deliver a series of meticulously crafted dishes. The menu at Otoko changes regularly, reflecting seasonal ingredients and the chef's inspirations. This dedication to authenticity and quality has earned Otoko rave reviews and a dedicated following.
Kuneho: Blending Japanese and Texan Flavors
Kuneho, which means "rabbit" in Filipino, is an exploration of Paul Qui's dual heritage. This restaurant seamlessly blends Japanese techniques with Texan ingredients, resulting in a menu that's both innovative and comforting. Dishes like the brisket sushi roll and smoked miso ramen exemplify this fusion, creating a dining experience that's uniquely Austin. Although Kuneho closed its doors in 2018, its influence on the local culinary scene remains.
Pao by Paul Qui: Asian Influence in Miami
Extending his culinary reach beyond Austin, Paul Qui opened Pao by Paul Qui in Miami. Located in the luxurious Faena Hotel, Pao offers a sophisticated dining experience with a menu that celebrates Asian flavors and ingredients. Signature dishes like the crispy octopus and the Unicorn—a whole roasted fish adorned with edible flowers—highlight Qui's flair for dramatic presentation and bold taste combinations. Pao by Paul Qui has been praised for its creativity and elegance, cementing Qui's reputation as a versatile chef.
Paul Qui's Culinary Philosophy
At the heart of Paul Qui's success is his culinary philosophy, which emphasizes creativity, authenticity, and sustainability. He believes in pushing the boundaries of traditional cuisine while staying true to the essence of the ingredients. This philosophy is evident in his meticulous approach to cooking and his dedication to sourcing the freshest, highest-quality ingredients. For Qui, food is not just about taste; it's about creating an experience that engages all the senses.

Paul Qui's innovative approach to cooking has earned him numerous accolades. In addition to winning "Top Chef," he has received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest in 2012 and has been named one of Food & Wine magazine's Best New Chefs. His restaurants have been featured in prestigious publications and have garnered critical acclaim. These awards and recognitions are a testament to his talent, hard work, and impact on the culinary world.
Challenges and Controversies
Despite his success, Paul Qui's career has not been without challenges and controversies. In 2016, he faced legal issues that brought negative attention to his name. These incidents affected his professional reputation and led to the closure of his flagship restaurant, Qui. However, Paul Qui has since worked to rebuild his brand and regain the trust of his patrons. His resilience and commitment to his craft have been key in overcoming these obstacles.
Community and Philanthropy
Beyond his culinary achievements, Paul Qui is also known for his contributions to the community. June 16th - Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Monkey Park
Tumblr media
Nico and I skipped breakfast again this morning and slept in a little bit. We knew there was going to be a quiz, so we reviewed the readings one more time before Professor Smith’s announcement at 9:00 am (we are familiar with your tactics Dr. Smith). Prior to fully entering the bamboo forest, we stopped at a love shrine, because the last one we tried to visit was closed. Professor Smith recalled my previous joke saying that I need the love shrine really badly, which I thought was funny. I already know I drank from the Romance Stream of water from the Kannon temple a couple days ago, so I didn’t want to ruin my odds. As we strolled through the bamboo forest, we saw a man playing this extremely soothing disc instrument that I had seen on Instagram before (I don’t know the name of it). We continued along and of course Vishnu and I found an extremely photogenic spot to take pics along the water, which oddly reminded us of what we thought Vietnam would look like. I wanted to go for a swim so bad. After that we broke for lunch, where Vishnu, Chelsea, Sam (the boy), and I all went to a ramen place that was a solid 7/10. After that I got Chelsea coffee and myself coffee and she repaid me by buying me a yummy strawberry ice cream. I think that’s like at least five different people I have gotten to buy me ice cream. Vishnu and I took more pics on the bridge, and we met back up with the group for a hike up to a monkey park. There, we took more pics as a group, fed monkeys peanuts for 50 yen, and enjoyed the wonderful views above Kyoto. It’s kinda sad that the trip is going to be over in a couple days, because we have a really weird, yet fun group. We headed back down the mountain and a group of us (Boy Sam, Girl Sam, Eliza, Vishnu, Chelsea, Casey, Julie, Nico, Aulora, and I) stopped at another coffee shop where we chit chatted, had overrated drinks, and reminisced the trip. We took the train back, Nico and I napped, and then we met downstairs to go to a rooftop bar. I had a good talk with Casey about our favorite parts of the trip and what we missed the most from back home. Unfortunately, I led the group to an overpacked bar as I had forgotten it was Friday and it was happening. I felt bad for making everyone walk for half an hour. On the way back, Julie and I talked about the way our Asian parents punished us as kids and we offered each other restaurant recommendations in Miami/Broward. I love when people give new spots for me to try in Miami. We stopped at Family Mart for snacks and some of us played Uno in our room to end the night which was nice. Nico and I also played heads-up poker after everyone had left, because we are dying to play when we get back to Miami. I hope this group can be able to meet up in Gainesville for a party or a function later on this year.
Academic Reflection
Today one of our readings was on “The Tale of Genji”, which I had read parts of previously in my Self and Society in East Asia quest course during the Spring of my freshman year. It was a great read and an even better read now. The entire plot revolves around the romantic adventures of Genji, the son of the emperor who exiles himself after committing some wrongdoings. It was interesting to visit the place where he had his affair with Lady Rokujo. The story is considered to be the world’s first novel and is a classic piece of literature. It was enlightening to be able to picture the settings described in the story and I was glad that we were able to visit said place.
The other reading discussed the importance of preservation for the bamboo forest. I found it particularly compelling the way the article mentioned the inclusion of nature within city planning. I wish we had this back in Miami, where there aren’t many large parks that are nature based other than protected ocean reefs. We were able to see dense and luscious forests that were located in the middle of Kyoto when we were at the monkey park on top of the mountain.

Vente Manchester United : Les 4 acheteurs potentiels !
Tumblr media
Read the full article

Sushi and Ramen
This post might be the most basic one yet, but have you been to Naruto 88 Bistro yet? If you don’t know anything about Naruto, I think that’s absolutely okay in this case. While many people visit the place for their love or interest in the popular anime adventure series, many people stay for their love of the food. I did not try a single thing from this menu that I didn’t absolutely love. Their ramen is to die for. They also have sushi options, noodles, and rice, among other tasty authentic Japanese dishes.
Another plus side is that this place serves Boba tea, which has been very popular throughout the years. Everything is absolutely delicious and the service is also great. The actual restaurant is rather small and there’s usually a wait time, so be prepared to wait.
Location: 10471 N Kendall Dr, Miami, FL 33176
Hours: Sat-Sun: 11:30am-10pm Mon-Fri: 12pm-10pm
Prices: $6.75-$29

Miami, Florida Trip 2022
On 8/3, Octavius the Uber’d us to the airport. This one family cut us in the security check line. We got our rental car from Ace. We took some pics behind FTX Arena then had lunch at Pho 79. Thao closed her account at Citibank. Shopped for ramen at Asian Market. Checked into our AirBnB and napped. We shopped at Publix. Visited Lummus Park and swam at South Beach. Ate Ramen before bed.
We had eggs and sausage for breakfast on 8/4  then drove to Bayside Marketplace. We got on the cruise ship at 11:30 to see the celebrity mansions. We got a pina colada onboard. Then we had Chili’s. Our waitress Erica ignored us and was very slow! We bought some items at Publix then rested back at our AirBnB. We hid our wallets in the coffee container. Thao’s dad told stories of people they know hiding precious items in odd places. We were going to swim at Eden Roc but the beach was dirty so we went to South Beach. We spent $40 on parking. Then we had instant pho. Thao’s parents told the story of how they met. We prayed then went to Walmart. A creepy woman snuck up to our car!
We had eggs with stir fry cauliflower for breakfast on Friday (8/5). Then we drove an hour to Vuon Trai Cay Trinh but they were on vacation so we went to Uyen Fruits for Guava and Sugar Apples. We ran into another family from Texas! The Fairchild Gardens looked closed so we ignored it and went home. While Ba Ma stayed in the AirBnB, Thảo and I went to Trader Joe’s and Target. We hung out in midtown Miami and ate at Thai Express. Ba Ma and us went around the neighborhood taking picture until it stopped raining. We returned to the Bayside Marketplace to go on the Ferris Wheel. I ran back to get Ba’s phone and shared my location with Thảo. Nearly got into a car accident! We went back to midtown and had a delicious meal at Crab Du Jour.
I’m amazed we finished all the groceries from the week this morning (8/6). We checked out of the AirBnB around 10:30 and walked around Maurice A. Ferre Park next to the Frost Museum of Science. The aquarium and all the exhibits at the museum itself was underwhelming. Ba Ma stayed on the 5th floor while Thảo and I explored. We chilled at the Gulf Stream Oculus until the boring Liam Neeson documentary at the Planetarium. Shell was so busy that we filled up across the street. Thao is an expert in bringing down the weight of our luggage. We drank so much water! The plane had to return to the gate for a medical emergency. Our Uber driver had Cane’s boxes all over the floor.
Went to mass at La Vang on (8/7). One man was so mad about people recording the fruit sellers. We ate at Bang Cuon Hoa then rested at Thao’s house. We dropped some stuff off and had some exercise at the new house, returned a Lancôme box to Macys then had rice brick at my parents’ house. Then the four of us visited the new house to fix the garage (which is just dirty) then my parents had a talk with Thao’s about Ma going to Indiana to help Lyn with her new shop.

Note
Okay okay okay, fun places to eat in the DMV:
DC propper: Tedds Bulletin (breakfast/brunch), federalist Pig (bbq), HipCityVeg (vegan burgers and sammiches), Ben's Chili Bowl (dc classic, even if you don't do hotdogs, meat, chili, whatever, they also have vegetarian dogs and everything is amazing), Nino's Bakery (i used to work here! Very small bakery vibe, croissants, tarts, cakes, lattes), Rose Ave Bakery
Maryland: Taqeria Habeñero (Mexican/texmex), Board and Brew (very cute place! In college park, they also sell board games and let you host tabletop meetings and such), Hook and Reel (crab boil), IKO sushi, Sticky Rice (also sushi, tempura veggies, tater totts), Bethesda Bagel (locations in MD and DC)
Virginia: Cuban Burger (owned by family from Miami, what it says on the tin), Spelunkers (smash burgers, best fries I've ever had, milkshakes), Best Buns (bakery)
To be honest, these are all places I've found as a transplant, I'm not a DC local/native and I imagine they probably have better recommendations, but I've found it hard to make friends here and harder to get into the food scene as someone with, shall we say, a less extensive income.
ahhh!!!! thank you so much i absolutely love this list <3 i've actually walked past rose ave bakery, and i've gone for drinks at Taqueria Habeñero and they have REALLY GOOD guacamole and chips (and the tacos looked.........so good)
thank you for this list!!!! i will add all of these restuarants to my must-go to!!!!!!! all i've really been to so far is Taqueria Habeñero and a place in Chinatown that served ramen 🔥🔥 I'm so excited to experience this city as a foodie 🔥🔥(also im so hard spending money i literally understand your reservations it makes this list even better bless)
