I'd love to see a kimono made from the fabric designs on my Portuguese folk costume. A Japanese designer is doing a kimono around the world project where they design a kimono to represent every country in the world. I really hope they take inspiration from the traje lavradeira!

Let the busy weekends begin!

Hello, friends!  I hope all is well!  Happy 1st of June!  Can you believe we're almost halfway through the year already? It's crazy.  I've done a lot this year so far, so it's gone by fast, but always full of adventure.  This weekend was another busy one.  I've been occupied with performance and work for the past couple of weeks, but this is when the real craziness begins.

There was a Portuguese festa down the street from home and I spent most of my weekend there.  On Saturday night the Rancho performed and I hung out and festa'd for the rest of the night.  This morning I went to mass at the Portuguese club, which was held under the tent, followed by the sopas do Espírito Santo (Holy Ghost soups) made of broth, bread, and meat.  The soups were served to the poor during the festivities of the Holy Ghost in the Azores.  The Holy Ghost is venerated in the Azores, specifically.  The sopas at the Woburn festa are my favorite!  My favorite part about today's sermon was that Father Jim referred Cookie Monster.  In the Portuguese version he referenced an old-school Portuguese mom.  It was great.

June is a busy month for me.  The Rancho has something going on every weekend in June.  Next weekend is the flag-raising at Government Center, which is part of the Boston Portuguese Festival. (bostonportuguesefestival.org).  You can also follow the Boston Portuguese Festival on Twitter & Instagram too.  The following weekend (June 14 & 15) is St. Anthony's Feast in Cambridge.  The weekend after that (June 22) is the Dia de Portugal Parade (grand finale of the Boston Portuguese Festival).  The last weekend in June (June 28 & 29) we'll be on the Cape for the Provincetown Portuguese Festival in Provincetown, MA.  As you can see, the fun is just beginning...
