“You have to stop playing your mixtapes,” you say to Jisung as you switch the music to something more appropriate. A radio hit or something, Jisung can’t tell. “Jinyoung will get mad at me, not you.”

“We sell burgers. What's the big deal? C’mon, just one more song. There’s no one here anyway.”

You sigh and turn up the volume like it will drown out Jisung’s complaints. Instead, Taylor Swift melancholically sings about Post Malone or killing wives or whatever the song’s about, while Jisung argues with you until you’ve reached the till. He knows he shouldn’t. You’ve been here since 4 PM, dealing with the evening crowd and the annoying middle schoolers who think they’re hot shit now that they’ve reached the double digits in age. Whatever patience you have is worn thin.

But he really needs you to listen to the next song.

“Take it up with the boss,” you repeat.

“You are the boss,” he repeats back.

The usual night shift manager, Nayeon, is sick, which puts you in charge because Jinyoung doesn't trust Jisung or Mark. He’s right, of course, but would it kill you to use your powers for his benefit?

You mechanically count the money in the register and push the drawer in with more force than necessary. The restaurant is empty, which means your customer service persona is off. He likes you so much better when it’s off. That weary aggression is hot.

“I’m gonna grab a snack,” he finally says when it’s clear that you’re not giving in. “You want fries?”

“Yeah. And if you change the music, I’m firing you.”

“You can’t fire me.”

You smirk. “I’m the boss, remember?”

Before Jisung’s body can make the terrible decision to kiss you right here, right now, he forces himself to go into the kitchen. Mark, in an apron splattered with grease, has a vape pen in one hand, his phone is the other. He acknowledges Jisung with a nod before turning back to the TikTok he’s watching. Taylor Swift sings at twice her normal speed. Jisung can’t escape her.

Fuck it.

Once he’s queued up his song, he grabs a burger from under the heat lamp and two cones of fries. When he returns to the counter, there’s two cups of soda waiting.

“Aw, you do care,” he remarks, causing you to roll your eyes. “Cherry coke?”

“Of course. It’s the best.”

You reach for the fries and let out a happy sigh when you taste them. This part of you, Jisung also likes. The sweet serenity hidden underneath all of your cynicism rarely shows, and he watches out of the corner of his eye as you sip on your drink, a subtle smile building on your face.

Then his song comes on. It takes only three seconds for you to recognize his voice.

“You’re fired,” you say, turning around so you can change the music back to Taylor Swift. God, he can’t listen to her anymore, not when every song of hers makes him daydream about you.

“Last song, I swear. Just listen to it. Please,” he says. “I’ll clean the ice cream machine tonight.”

You lean back against the counter and stare at the speakers on the ceiling like the words will materialize from the sound. You don’t realize it, but it’s a kind gesture. Jisung knows his face is red. When the playlist goes back to radio hits, you finally look at him.

“Cute song,” you say.

“It’s about you.”

“I know. Hey, can you take me home tonight? My roommate’s visiting her family, so I don’t have a ride.” Coyly, you add, “Or anyone waiting at home for me.”

Fuck the ice cream machine.

Today had no spiders so you would assume that went better for me than yesterday but not quite. My computer antics today included playing a day and a half of a sim family and renovating a house to look like a therapy clinic. Boy did I have glitches. I'm talking TOOL not letting me toggle active object on some sims, only four students spawning at prom and a confident sim not being able to select a swim option as they were greyed out because said sim was too uncomfortable. Said sim didn't even have any negative moodlets. I removed the most recent script mod and it seemed to settle but that means bye bye to the cute blush when flirty.

Now onto non virtual life. I bet you didn't know that a very small proportion of people cannot produce proper antibodies for Chicken Pox meaning they'll get it more than once. I am people, I've had it five times, none as bad as the first time but still clearly Chicken Pox. This morning I seem to have once again developed, as I like to non affectionately call it, the plague. The lumps are coming up and it explains my loss of appetite the past few days.

Since this issue is rare there is not a lot of science around it. The length of time I have the virus varies, as does the severity, so I'm not too sure how much it'll affect me. This one time I got them all over my palms and therefore couldn't use my hands properly. SBL is queued through the month but Rotations and Growing with Glenn each only have one more post set up so there will likely be a gap. Just a heads up in case they stop suddenly it's not because I've fallen out of love with my characters. It's because being itchy is tiring.

The Pompeii exhibit at the MSI, as with many temporary exhibits there, is split across two galleries. I like how they handled that this time; the first half presents artworks and artifacts recovered from Pompeii, and uses them to teach about ancient Roman life. I studied classical fresco and mosaic arts in grad school, so I got to see some stuff in person that I’d only ever seen before in books. The mosaic of the anchor, for example, has never left Italy before. 

The winged-phallus windchime I’d seen before but also not in person, and I was very amused by the fact that it was off in a niche with a warning sign about artifacts of an adult nature. Which was mostly a lot of dicks, and a couple of (I thought) tasteful frescoes of people having sex or looking like they’d like to. I also wrote a paper on the penis as a magical amulet in classical history in grad school, so I was delighted by all the penis amulets I got to see. A hundred years ago you had to Know A Guy At The British Museum to get a look at stuff like this. 

The last image comes from the more serious second half of the exhibit, which I have another post queued about, but I thought one of the cooler elements they introduced was the screen showing a gladiatorial fight, with the two smaller screens showing images of the fighters. I love that they basically gave this gladiator a D&D character stat set. 

There were some aspects of the exhibit I didn’t love -- some scientific/historic exhibits in the past ten years have made heavy use of video, which I don’t hate intrinsically, but a lot of the time there will be several video exhibits in one room. It’s extremely unpleasant to try and watch one -- or even look at non-video exhibits -- when three separate video narrations are audible at once. I had planned to leave my headphones off, because I’ve realized that I’m rarely in public without my headphones in and that might be contributing to a certain level of alienation, but I had to get them out of my pocket and put them back in because at least I could pump the volume on my playlist and only hear Robbie Williams instead of three separate people pontificating about ancient history. 

But overall as a Roman history and an art history nerd I very much enjoyed the exhibit, and I might go again before it closes.

Apologies for not having been around much lately. Work has slowed down a tiny bit (so I'm vaguely less busy), but we've been having a heatwave for over two weeks now, so I'm just as exhausted as before.

we're lemon (or tea), also known as the lemon tree. We use "i" and "we" interchangeably, because we are i, i am we, and we are lemon.

i'm 24, and they/them tends to work for the collective. i have other brain stuff that i might talk about here, too, but this is mostly an acc for talking about DID and, kinda by extension, (C-)PTSD.

i'm black and we collectively identify as non-binary because of DID gender fuckery and also the fact that a lot of us are nb lol.

i prefer the term "person with DID/pwDID". i do not want to be referred to as plural or multiple, as those terms don't describe my experiences.

i am hoping to achieve final fusion once i'm in a better living situation.

i see myself as parts of one whole rather than multiple people in one body. i may refer to us as [part]-lemon or [part]-host-lemon for illustrating our connections to the whole. respect our individual needs and boundaries, but do so equally.

i have a cluster B PD and i do not tolerate ableism towards cluster B folks, including those with NPD and ASPD. i may not have either but i don't engage with people who demonize cluster B PDs or any other disorders

The Winning Phase ~

It’s rare that a planeswalker makes it into this spot. Well, congratulations on the double, then! This card’s pretty darn good. I like the complex use of that Commander sphinx’s rules text in the emblem for sure; it’s not hard to get to and it’s really neat to see. I have the feeling that that -4 is going to be really annoying, to the point of, in commander, a control player being able to go “Nobody gets combat for the rest of the game”—except that it targets, so that’s nice, and getting a proliferate engine is hard enough, so maybe it’s not so bad!

Overall, a well-rounder defensive planeswalker who doesn’t generate card advantage but who is sufficiently controlly for the kind of game plan that the most annoying U/W players want to have. Honestly, the fact that there isn’t any card advantage really is a weight, but that’s modern Magic for you. Why do I feel the need to make that comparison? Ah well.

@helloijustreadyourpost​ — Motion to Dismiss

Firstly: card’s good, you’re in the winner’s circle, feel good about that. We cool? Okay. I’m still not 100% feeling the impact of the flavor text and I’m trying to figure out immediately why. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t start out like that, but I think it says something that the rest of the card is so strong in the right matchup and/or format, that it’s a fascinating little slice of life that I’m on board with, and I guess overall it’s a lesson in impact. I want just a little more context for this, and perhaps art direction could have pushed it over, because the flavor text relies on a moment for pithiness that’s aiming for specificity, and I feel we’re so close! It’s the strength of the rest of the card that makes me want to get my instruments out and tune this lil’ thing.

This is an absolute banger of a card, though, and I wonder how many people are going to be mad with it. The way that you can formulate a limited game so that, knowing your opponents’ responses, you’ll have all the means of getting to a point where it lands solidly—that’s kinda raw. It’s in the courts, which I feel is awesome, and I’m a fan of the way that you used a common name and turned it magical with the watermark/worldbuilding. Perhaps a little bit of distinguishing from Cancel would’ve been nice in the base ability, but there’s nothing wrong with how it is now. It’s definitely Cool with a capital C, and not a capital offense.

@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes​ — Sympathetic Torturer

I have no notes. Seriously! No places I can find significant places to improve this card! It’s a balance-happy beast of a flier, balanced by the pips and the tax, a classic black card that still abides by the swinginess expected of creatures. Land this on turn three, and you’ll be getting this back and forth with a little extra to go around. In limited, you’ll have an extra race each turn, adjusting your opponent’s interaction with your board each and every one of your turns. In constructed and especially Commander, you’ll be making friends and enemies alike. I especially like how the upkeep trigger is enough to make your combat step so much more pressuring; it creates a feeling of dread whenever they pass the turn.

Flavor’s simple enough to make the irony of the name and art direction stand out perfectly. The name adds a degree of dark humor, the art shows the irony in action, the abilities exemplify the way the art’s motions are carried out tangibly, and the flavor text ties back to the name to tie a nice little loop. Simplicity in context makes all the difference.

Heh... my queue is rarely longer than “a few things might wrap around until tomorrow morning when my queue resumes posting” (since I have an overnight non-posting window scheduled into it). But a bit ago I had to go digging for something I’d meant to post immediately but instead accidentally sent to queue (darn autopilot posting reflexes), and it was late tomorrow from all the Goncharov stuff that’s already queued up.

...maybe I’ll increase the posting rate for the next day or two.

I'm busy as hell and I have moderate-to-severe ADHD that I can't afford to meaningfully treat. There is a non-zero chance of me posting a dozen things over the space of three days and then not posting at all for six months.

If I'm posting consistently, it's probably stuff I've had queued for a while, especially if it's for a writing challenge (e.g., Whumptober).

Do you take requests?

Sometimes.

I'm infuriatingly picky with what requests/prompts I take, so take that as you will. The higher up the fandom is on my "currently writing for" list, the more likely I am to take it.

However, I may just not be in the mood to take requests for a while, at which point I will make a post and put something in the blog description.
