So will you be fair and say which animals Fraser and Kowalski resemble. I'm tired of Vecchio being seen as unattractive. I think he's plenty cute and sexy
Oooh, this is about the RayV as Sid the Sloth post, I was confused for a moment. I must confess that I watched Ice Age so long ago that I just have vague memories of the characters, so I have no idea who Fraser and RayK could be- that and I haven't seen any RayK episodes yet...! That post was not coding RayV as unattractive, not at all. I just made a link between the kindness of the characters and a couple of mannerisms (and, like I said, I saw the movies ages ago), but also I'm aroace and have no perception of 'plenty cute and sexy' :/ You do you, though! :)
If someone wants to jump on this and do Fraser and RayK as Ice Age characters, go ahead! I'd be interested to get opinions :D Thanks for the ask!

Honestly, if you said "no it's not explicitly queer" I was ready to just nope right out. But your thoughtful, heartfelt response has totally sold me. I can definitely appreciate the difference between queer-baiting and queer-coding, especially as a fan of Supernatural/Hawaii 5-0 AND Xena (and others along both veins!). Thank you so much for taking the time to write back and put real thought into your answer to a random tumblr anon!
AAAAHHHHH, I hope you like it anon, and please feel free to come into in askbox any time! I’d love to hear all about your due south experience if you want to share it ^_^ My askbox is SUPER DUPER BROKEN, so if you ever send me an ask and I don’t respond–it’s because tumblr ate it, sadly.
There’s a notable difference between the first two seasons of due South and the second two seasons–both sets are really good, but in very different ways, and while seasons 3 and 4 are campier and less focused on family dynamics type stuff (RayK, the character that I and a lot of people who I follow here on tumblr ship with the main character, is introduced in season 3) they also happened while the show was on a more conservative network. I’m not sure that CBS would have ever gone for an episode like the season 2 episode Some Like It Red, but then I don’t think Paul Haggis would have ever given us buddy breathing, so you win some, you lose some. Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that the earlier seasons are subtler in some ways, so don’t be surprised if the queer-coding isn’t immediately obvious in the first few episodes.

Due South/Person of Interest: Fic: Ray's Toes
Title: Ray's Toes Fandom: Due South/Person of Interest Characters: RayK/Finch and Bear Rating: G Word Count:275 Summary: AU. Ray wears sandals An: Written for the ds_snippets prompt: sandal and sunglasses An2: Also here at AO3 Also here at ds_snippets Finch sat in The Library working on computer code. As the computer screen filled with ones and zeros he smiled; he was in his element. He heard foot steps coming up to his office and sure enough Ray and Bear came into the room. 'What's up? You get anything on the new number?' Ray asked as he lowered his sunglasses and looked at Harold. 'Oh yes. I have found quite a bit of information on Mr. Smith.' 'Cool. Cool. Just let me change and I'll get at 'er.' Finch looked at Ray and saw that he was wearing him regular clothes. His Chicago Bulls shirt was tight and showed off his chest. Finch looked down before the thought of Ray's chest affected him. As he looked down, he noticed that Ray was wearing a pair of wooden sandals. His toes were long and slender and Finch found that he couldn't look away. 'You okay, Finch?' Ray asked. Finch tore his eyes away from Ray's toes and looked up. 'You are wearing sandals.' 'Yeah. It's hot and it makes my feet sweat in shoes. I'll change before I track down the new number. I got a pair of shoes around here.' 'Ah, I see. That seems extremely practical.' Ray grinned as he pushed his sunglasses up, covering his eyes. 'Yeah, that's me Mr. Practical. Come on, Bear let's get getting.' Ray and Bear left and Finch went back to his coding, but couldn't shake images of Ray. If he was good at human interaction he would tell Ray how he felt, but that was an area he was lacking in. Later that night, Finch dreamed of Ray's slender toes.

Given the number of times he expressed frustration with American network television and executives, I imagine at some point he decided he actively wanted to write Fraser/RayK and was enthusiastic- to be met with “But that’s icky gay stuff” from the producers. So he wrote it anyway in code, then literally took all his toys and went home.
So, this other Due South doc, Southbound, says that Paul Haggis was basically fired by CBS? Wow. I always assumed he just got bored or something and moved on on his own. Also that Paul Gross was the one who pulled the plug after season 4 and it wasn’t actually cancelled for a third time. He just thought it was time. Is all of this accurate?

ship survey 18-22
I’m going to presume you mean 18 through 22...18. Talk about a moment which made you question an entire ship.
As in “how can this be a ship?” Gah, there are tons that I just do not understand and question -- mostly with "If the characters hate each other on the show, how could they possibly be in a healthy, loving relationship?” And I do not buy into the “thin line between love and hate” bullshit. To me, that’s a formula for abuse, and it hits too close to home.19. Have you ever shipped something despite yourself?
Not to my recollection. If I don’t see a logical reason for a ship, I won’t touch it.
20. Talk about a ship you feel alone in shipping.
I know at least one person who shares a lot of my more forbidden ships, so I’m never completely alone.
21. Is there a ship you just don’t get, but have nothing against?
There are a lot of ships I don’t get, and the only time I have something against them is when a) they are shoved in my face and b) the people shipping it try to say my ships are wrong (especially if it involves a character from their chosen OTP).
22. Which of your ships have the best chemistry?
There are so many. I could go back through the years and point them out -- Kirk/Spock (the most famous of the slash couples), Starsky/Hutch (the actors are still close friends to this day; their love for each other came through their performances), Jim/Blair (two characters destined by DNA coding to be together), Fraser/RayK (at the risk of starting another round of the Ray Wars, Fraser did ride off into the sunset with Kowalski, while his former partner Vecchio experienced love-at-first-sight with Kowalski’s ex-wife), Crockett/Castillo (the chemistry between the actors was so strong TPTB started to pair them up more), Steve/Bucky (mostly MCU, and I don’t care what they did in the comics or if they’re going to try to shoehorn Sharon Carter into Steve’s life -- Bucky is his everything), and of course, John/Sherlock (because Holmes/Watson has always been a “thing” and I have never seen as much chemistry between two people playing these characters as I do with BBC’s version).
There are so many others, and the reason I ship them is because of the chemistry I see on the show -- it isn’t just an arbitrary “ooh, they would look good together!” thing, either. I take my time to form an OTP, test the waters. I won’t force two characters together; it can’t just be a spark, it has to blaze. I never would have thought a Federal agent and a cannibalistic serial killer would make a good pair (and I use the term “good” loosely) but there is no denying the Hannigram! Yes, it falls under the “unhealthy relationships” umbrella but the series’ creator and actors meant it to be that way, and as sick and twisted as it is, like the show itself it is dark and grotesquely beautiful.
