The Dozen were in a tough spot. There were traitors among them. Several had died due to said betrayals. People with low status within the dozen could easily be forced to be sacrificial lambs as was the case with Ian's former fiance. So, I do see how Kamal thought that Raj was his safest bet. Being a Doobay, he definitely wasn't a traitor (Vimal laughs in the distance but you get my point!) and with his position, not only would Amrita live a materially comfortable life with the man she thinks she wants, she would also be as safe as she could hope to be.

But he knows about the Radha situation and thus about Raj's selfish and irresponsible nature. He must know how unlikely it is for Raj to ever develop geniune feelings for Amrita especially now when he must be bitter about the coercion too. He also knows Amrita well enough to know she could hardly be truly happy with such a life.

Perhaps he should have at least informed Amrita of her true circumstances and let her decide? But then her decision would have been obvious. She wouldn't have gone through with it and knowing this, he made the decision for her, completely overruling her wants. I will admit that telling this to Amrita is a particularly risky bet. As an overwhelmed child, it is very possible for her to let this secret reach dangerous ears.

Add there is no guarantee that should he be able to find another powerful enough groom for her, said groom would be any better than Raj. Here, at least he has some cards to hold over Raj should he ever dare mistreat his sister in particularly heinous ways.

So Kamal prioritised her safety and what he perceived as her well-being over her wants and happiness. I understand his decision but it would doom her all the same, he betrayed her all the same.

Kamal’s need for control and manipulation, coupled with Raj’s secrecy, is what has truly derailed lives. Now I find Raj annoying but they are acting like he forced her when she clearly kept on going back to fuck him despite their circumstances. If she didn't want to face the consequences she should have left him or used a condom.

Total Drama Level Up Chapter Four Behind-the-Scenes

Due to some unforeseen circumstances in my life, chapter twelve of Total Drama Level Up is going to take a little longer than expected to get out. In the meantime I'll be doing more of these behind-the-scenes blogs, picking back up with chapter four.

This one of the last challenges I came up with in the story's planning stages. It went through a few different versions. First I thought to have the players all driving miniature tanks around a battlefield, but thought that might be too similar to chapter two. Then I tried having them driving RC tanks, before settling on the version we see in the chapter with the players piloting drones in a space combat setting.

To be perfectly honest, I think this is the weakest chapter in the whole story. For one thing the genre - real time strategy - is one that I've barely played and am not a huge fan of, so it was very difficult to write about it in a way that felt exciting for the readers. Not to mention it felt awkward (to me at least) constantly jumping back and forth between what was happening out on the battlefield and what was going on with the teams in their respective bases.

That being said, there were still some things I liked with this chapter. This was where I started really teasing Mkulia, and where I had Lauren and Zee form their initial friendship that would go on to become romantic.

Speaking of which, this was also the start of the Lauren-MK-Julia alliance that would go on to dominate the rest of the story. I knew that after their actions in the previous seasons, MK and Julia would logically be high-priority targets, and they'd need allies to stay in the game. Their tentative alliance with Raj was a good start, but getting Lauren in their corner is what really helped. Especially since it helped greatly with my overall goal of having Lauren play a major role in this story.

Speaking of Raj, the reason I eliminated Wayne this chapter was to rectify one of my personal issues with season two, that being Wayne barely getting time to be his own character because Raj stuck around for so long. Personally I feel Wayne's victory could have had more emotional weight if Raj had been eliminated just an episode or two earlier than when he was, to give Wayne an actual arc of learning to be separated from Raj and get meaningful interactions with others. Since season two didn't do that, I decided to do it myself but with Raj as the focus.
