like somewhere in me the wires between 'excitement' and 'dread' got mixed up and now they feel exactly the same and i cant enjoy stuff without taking a dozen steps to reassure myself that something bad is NOT happening and it's all fine we're just going to the movie theater to have a popped corn and see a big screen. it's ridiculous. it's outrageous. it's unconscionable
#i react to perfectly normal and fun activities with the same psychological framework of a gazelle being stalked by a cheetah#and then i wonder why most of the activities i choose to do are boring and predictable and repetitive#one exception is a new hike ive never been on. i never get anxious about going to a new location alone and hiking it#that shit makes me feel like...idk real painless excitement#i guess#i feel pleasantly eager for what's to come and my heart swells with gladness/enjoyment/contentment#this is not the case with most things i enjoy doing#with most things i enjoy doing i have to fight seventeen video game obstacle courses of trepidation before im allowed to have fun#and then the first hour of the fun is also me having palpitations. and fun. at the same time#like who fuckin DESIGNED this thing#q

donghua lb introducing himself to qiu shenji for the first time since he was turned and qsj's first comment to him therefore being "so it is you" is just so full of irony on rewatch.
I wonder if qsj had reacted in almost any way other than how he actually did if lb would have admitted his actual identity, but qsj (for obvious reasons) did not want to risk attracting treason accusations. and answering any way other than he did to lb's questions of loyalty was too risky. qsj's had to turn hard to the world and that means not revealing weaknesses, regardless of his actual thoughts on the empress and the li family. and, of course, lb takes that with a sense of betrayal. the one person he thought could be in his corner is not willing to be. it's the first time we truly see lb looking so lost in the series and on first watch we have incredibly little context.
but just thinking about how the first and last meetings we see between lb and qsj in the present timeline are about lb presenting himself as an identity to qsj and how differently those two instances spin out. and the main thing that has changed for the audience between the two is knowing the context. knowing the history between the two, knowing why lb cares for this person we've been told is responsible for such indiscriminate death, knowing that he already holds such guilt over messing things up before, and yet here he is again, unable to change anything? that's what makes the reveal to qsj hit.
#white cat legend#white cat legend spoilers#<- for the donghua ig#sth sth regardless of medium lb is in essence someone who pretends like he knows what he's doing and does an admirable job of fooling ppl#but deep down is still the scared child of his past looking for guidance that (he feels that) no one can offer#and the ppl who could understand him best bc they know his past (qsj/qqz) are the very ppl he can't open himself up to until it's too late.#and it's like. morally speaking they may have worked on different frameworks + clashed at times but they weren't /actually/ enemies.#also. not mentioned in the main post itself but when lb first introduces himself there are others present but by the time qsj leaves#it's just the two of them. hence why lb asks the questions + hence why I think he could have said there and then if qsj reacted differently#idk for sure if he would have + part of the point is that w/ qsj's personality that qsj /wouldn't/ have reacted any differently#but lb certainly seemed desperate enough

tbh im sticking my head in the sands this oscar season because i just know oppenheimer is going to sweep and i dont wanna see it happen
#oh you gave the oscar to n*lan for a movie rehabilitating the image of a guy with the framework of *single genius changes the world*#because that's how n*lan fundamentally sees the world (and himself)? all the women in it are either sexy and crazy or housewives?#groundbreaking....#coasting on the musical build of hans zimmer#i watched this movie in the cinema and argh i could see why so many people were reacting to it the way they did#the structure of its intentions are so blatant it's almost clap-worthy that this nonsense Works for people#hits so hard with the messaging of genius men change the world over and over and over again as the Point#you almost forget they killed people#n*lan works with excellent cinematographers and excellent artists

i work in tech. and i get real annoyed when im trying to have beers and chat with my fellow colleagues and say 'yeah i think this is wild how the 'net's going and i wanna work on something new' and they're like "yeah something new will come up soon" and it's like.
ugh, no. you're not getting me. I want to be part of that something new. i want to try even imagine what something new could look like. why don't you wanna play the game with me. why don't you want to imagine
#internet#web#internet 4.0#can we call it that yet#surely 3.0 is kinda a disaster#but what if the html's and the css's and the js's and the react frameworks and backend servers etc are kinda done#like how no one dials into bulletin boards anymore#i know there are niche web protocols and some have some dope zines#i guess i'll just miss my tumblrinas when it all comes down

Gonna say that I really don’t think shame is actually a very effective activism tool. Which isn’t to say you have to be nice to shitty people or w/e, bc anger has a very very important role in activism and you have a right to be angry. But I don’t think shaming people itself is really “activism.” I don’t think it’s effective and I don’t think it actually helps anyone basically ever. Communicating, calling someone out, those are very important. But shame on its own is just. Not a good emotion to make use of. Shame is so self-focused. When people are ashamed they’re only going to act to alleviate their own discomfort and humiliation. And a lot of the time they just shut down instead. It doesn’t actually push anyone to make long lasting changes in themselves and their communities. It just makes people feel like shit and makes for some really shitty “activists” who don’t have like, any idea of what constructive, restorative, healing activism could look like and only know to tear other people down
#complaining about western leftists hour again ig#I feel like the only people who ever seem to know what I’m talking about these days are like. prison abolitionists and people who want r#restorative justice. but then also a bunch of the ‘leftists’ online will say they want those things and then not actually understand what#they are or have any of their values actually in line with those ideas#idk. I don’t think approaching activism from a place of compassion means you have to be a pushover or that you’re engaging in respectability#politics or w/e#I think it just means you really mean it when you say you want to heal the world#and also this isn’t saying that you’re like. BAD for shaming someone for being a shithead#you can definitely do that and I won’t judge you. I just also don’t think it’s necessarily capital A Activism#god another conversation I feel like I keep having: saying something isn’t effective or is harmful and in response people assume you’re#judging them morally#like I didn’t say that actually???#saying ‘hey I don’t know if this is gonna make sense in the long run’ doesn’t mean ‘I think you’re a bad person for reacting (x) way’#like really just remove that whole moralistic framework from your thinking bc it’s so not the point#so many proclaimed leftists simply Cannot shift their thinking outside of the box set up by existing hegemony and it’s like then what are#we even doing here#why are we doing any of this if you still can’t let that shit go?
