#reading the inheritance games

i did this for tfota series, so let's do it for the inheritance games now. i've read like 200 ish pages of the first book (i forgot to do this lmaoo) and i'm up to the part where avery hears someone in her bedroom walls and she's just gone to libby's room. i went into this completely blind (all i knew was the information from the blurb, and also i knew there was a character called grayson bc of the comparisons ppl make between him and aaron warner from shatter me). so far, i love avery bc she's realistic and relatable and a strong fmc. also i love jameson so so so so much he's so baby, but i feel like if/when grayson starts to come in more i may grow to like him equally or maybe even more (but i doubt it bc idk but at the same time i loved locke sm from the cruel prince and look what happened w him!!) so yeah that's it for now. oh also oren is actually an icon and xander is so cute and funny i love him fr. and i want to shove thea's head down the toilet but yk

Something I’ve noticed in jlb’s more recent writing is that she’s appealing a lot more to like the “tiktok” audiences. idk if that makes sense 😭

but like her books are getting FREAKIER by the SECOND. for example in the that night in prague excerpt there were so many instances of sexual innuendos. and before anyone comes for me I GET THAT AVERYJAMESON ARE LIKE THAT, they were in the og trilogy and they are now and honestly love them for that. but I feel like in the og trilogy jennifer kept it more up to interpretation, there was more suspense and tension than outright nods to it. (like that one time jameson came in covered in mud and he he was like “guess” — that scene is actually ingrained in my mind)

Now this wouldn’t bother me if it was like that in the beginning but the fact that she’s slowly adding more of this into her series shows that she’s getting influenced by audiences who want more of that, and idk how to feel about it. Like how savannah and rohan are meant to be enemies to lovers or something? and they have that whole toxic thing going on. I actually really liked them but I don’t think jlb is the best at writing stuff like that. I feel like she should stick to what she’s better at. also like old jlb would NOT have let that “savvy” “british” thing slide THOSE NICKNAMES WERE ATROCIOUS THE ONLY TIME IVE DOUBTED JLB’S JUDGEMENT

or maybe i’m reading too much into it who knows 🤷‍♀️

Though I prefer her old style more I genuinely don’t really mind her new one. And anyways jlb is making money either way she can do what she wants and I’ll still love her for it

the fact that he said that he would “take care of her DICREETLY” like she is some kind of threat is actually HEINOUS. and then he proceeds to go on and act all lovey dovey to his non-biological daughter who he LOVES MORE LIKE WHAT?? 😭

and yes, before anybody says anything, i know that hannah was the love of his life and averys mother, which is why he feels so much love for avery, even more than he does for eve. i get that. what i don’t get is the fact that he wanted to keep eve a secret because he didn’t know her (SHES HIS DAUGHTER???) to keep avery safe ON A WHIM.

and yes, maybe it’s good that he tried to distance the two because eve did end up being dangerous. BUT THERE IS NO WAY PEOPLE ARE SURPRISED THAT SHE DIDNT WANT TO LIVE LIKE TOBY?? 😭😭🙏

this man was trying to keep her hidden, AFTER SHE HAD SPENT HER WHOLE LIFE BEING INVISIBLE. ARE YOU JOKING.

obv im not excusing eves actions, and i don’t understand why she decided to immediately cling to vincent blake like dead skin, but i know why she didn’t want to stay invisible like toby, and the fact that he even tried to make her do that shows that he has no clue what his daughters like, let alone how to parent right.

anyways that’s my little rant. toby ily but if u EVER fix ur lips to say idiotic things and act stupid like this again ill beat your ass 🫶
