Slightly altered timeline

Knowing that their confrontation and attempted assassination of Megatron would not only fail, but result in their imprisonment at the Detention Center, and ultimately lead to them being installed with loyalty programming.

Onslaught would've scrapped the plan they had. Would've instead focused on gaining support from fellow Decepticons that could be trusted. Moving against Megatron will always be a risk, but numbers help. Maybe they could come up with another way to get Megatron out of the picture, or potentially even take out some of the High Command in tandem.

Because it was really the involvement of Shockwave that saved Megatron.

And if they succeeded at killing Megatron and taking control of the Decepticons this time around? That would bring them one step closer to actually ending the war.

the timeline in which they gain everything they want, except for the thing they wanted the most.

the timeline in which they live the life they currently see the most likely for them.

the timeline in which something big to them never happened.

the timeline in which something very little happened differently, but it changed a lot.

the timeline in which they had a person in their life when they needed one the most.

the timeline in which instead of the most influential person in their life, they had a person who had the complete opposite effect on them.

The lads deserve some kind of stand-off with other Cons, I think. Maybe not necessarily seeking out a fight, but rather taking a chance to stand up and go "No, back off/we disagree." Something that bolsters the independence they have now without necessarily going to swing for the Autobots, even if they are technically fighting a common enemy.

Oh yes, absolutely. I can't recall if they've even really brought up / been called out on their being ex-Cons by any current Cons. It would be interesting for some sort of confrontation involving that to happen.

Because their issues with Megatron and the way the Decepticons as a whole were going started millions of years ago. Those feelings never left, just got suppressed for a while against their will.
