No wonder a newcomer to the game/series feels afraid of interacting and posting their own fanwork, not knowing if they'll recieve death threats or doxxing threats. And at this point, I just want a FE4 realmake announcement and see ppl complaining about incest like with Fates. I have to admit that I was not on Tumblr when that meme was apparently super big and therefore I have no idea what it is either. And I’d imagine I’m at least ten years Joe Zieja’s junior (I looked on his website to try and figure out how old he is. Couldn’t find it, but his biography is hilarious). Expecting every single human being to be familiar with every fleeting internet culture meme is completely fucking ridiculous, and if you have no clue what “down with cis” was about then it can sound kind of crazy and uncomfortable.

And yeah, I can see especially how it’s scary to jump in for non-American fans, since so much of the internet is so American-centric. If you aren’t intimately familiar with America’s history of discrimination or attitudes toward certain things like cultural appropriation (which many Europeans are probably not, and I would not expect them to be) then talking about any “non-white” character can be a minefield for them.

I mean, a little while back someone made a joke about Dimidue, which if any American looked at it for two seconds it was pretty obvious that they were not an American, but people straight up doxxed them and called their boss to “out” them as a “huge racist”. Fucking crazy, no wonder people are shutting up and moving on to more pleasant fandoms.
