(late) day 4: underappreciated oc. i looked through all my active ocs and i haven't drawn mumbojumbo balderdash in years at this point...my bad, little sock thing. it's largely because i'm more interested in my serious story ocs at this point, and mumbojumbo is from my developing kid's books era. and also i think my old style suited em better, i find them harder to draw nowadays

Despite how much I enjoy Xianle Trio, I think it's for the best that they eventually outgrow one another. I think part of the reason why their relationship was so troubled was because of how reliant they all were on one another. The stress they were under after the fall of the kingdom was just the fuse needed for them to fall out. They would have eventually broken up. Either way, the three of them needed the space to grow, and even if they are no longer as close as the once we're pre canon, their relationship is definitely healthier.

We need more of this walkable civic redevelopment. Repurpose dying malls and parking lots. Make green spaces, roof gardens, and increase public transit.

This is the future we all want. And deserve.

swaps, would you share some more of your thoughts on Sam and Lazarus/Mezzo/ME2? i know this is a super vague question, but I still have your amazing writing in my mind and would love to hear anything you’d like to share about Opus. maybe just as a starting off point: how has Sam’s relationship with the stars changed after getting spaced? (also, I can’t thank you enough for sharing all of this!!)

OMG yes, I can go on about Sam for days, thank you so much for asking!!!

Getting spaced completely changes his relationship with the stars. They have always been a constant, and a source of comfort for him. Now? They trigger anxiety. Panic attacks. They interfere with his ability to do his job. He has a window! On the stars! In his bedroom! This is something he should be ecstatic over, in love with, and instead? He has to close the shutters and forget they're there.

It's a huge part of himself he feels like he's lost and now has to grieve, when there is already so much that's changed. Of all the consequences of Alchera, this feels like the cruelest, and the hardest one for him to deal with.

The Sam we have seen so far in Mezzo has been a shellshocked trauma victim who is doing nothing but react. He hasn't been able to think anything through yet, or pick anything apart enough to even really understand what's happened to him - much less process it - because there's just too much. He doesn't know what he thinks. He doesn't know how he feels. There is anger, there is fear, there is desperation, there is hurt, but he couldn't articulate any of it if you asked him to. He can't pinpoint where any of the emotions he's got locked up in there are coming from or figure out what to do with them, which is why he's regressed to all his old behaviors, like isolating from his crew and using violence as his primary problem solving method. All the work he did on himself while on the 'Yang gets rolled back because he's stuck trying to survive, and he doesn't have access to any of the tools and coping mechanisms the 'Yang gave him.

He's about to get pushed over the edge and just decide not to deal with any of it. Fuck this, fuck all of it. There is one thing: The Task. He stops giving a flying fuck about anything else, which I am very excited about because it's where we'll get to see him at his most ruthless.

But that can't last, because while he can tell himself he doesn't feel anything...obviously he does. He can't seal in the titanic things he's feeling for long. The walls will cave in sooner or later, and then he - and the people around him - are going to have to decide how to deal with it. Everyone involved is going to learn a lot about themselves, I think.

there was a featurette for jyushi in the hypster magazine where he entered a tanka contest!!! the contest was held to promote and revitalise some shopping districts within nagoya and out of the 1100ish people that entered the contest, jyushi won by a landslide!!!!! what he submitted roughly tls to ‘am i not as radiant as the glimmering gold sachihoko? o gods of owari, i beseech thee’

some of the the judges were initially put off by a poem clearly talking about oneself but were eventually swayed into understanding it represented how the citizens of nagoya have pride in their individuality and selected it as so. when the reporter making the article asked jyushi how he felt about his win, jyushi actually responded,

‘um, i was kinda under the impression that a tanka was a short song??? so i recorded and submitted a short demo for the contest but what they chose was just the title of my song……… idk how to feel about that yet……….’

AND LMAO!!!!! but what made matters worse for jyushi was that he fully intended to perform the song with his group, but in submitting to the contest, the organisation that held the contest was given rights to that song, so jyushi couldn’t claim it was his to perform in the first place

but it’s a good thing jyushi has a lawyer friend to consult!!!!!!! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

not only did this lawyer friend get the rights to the song back to jyushi, but he also got the organisers to give jyushi’s band grant money to further use the song for its intended promotional purposes!!!!! now jyushi’s song has all the power to bring the nation to nagoya 😌😌😌
