The best part of a "Laterose Lives" AU is if you set if AFTER the events of Mossflower, then you have Urrah Voh, who has a daughter pining away after a hot tempered warrior who in your mind hates peace, and then one day your son, who has finally calmed down as he aged, informs you your daughter is getting married to an Abbeybeast from a newly built abbey called Redwall due to the red sandstone used in it's construction. Abbeybeasts MUST be peaceful and gentle! You are thrilled, Rose is FINALLY getting over that Warrior so you go down to celebrate your daughter's wedding and. It's. That. DAMN! WARRIOR!
I am an unwell. I’m looking at romance story structures and I might be insane but canon Finnbarr Galedeep/Joseph the Bellmaker keeps fitting????
For example, Act 1:
We have the establishing of setting and the groundwork for the plot and the establishing of goals outside of romance etc,
Then the meet-cute where Joseph mentions how muscular Finnbarr is, and then keeps doing it??? For the whole book?? And he mentions how he was once handsome and now scarred (and it’s not like Brian Jacques talked about how handsome the dudes are a whole lot) so we have established the potential for attraction
You’re supposed to keep the protagonist thinking about the love interest and boy does he because these two are besties now and constantly touching each other
Now the first snag is this there is supposed to be a reason why the protagonist thinks rheu can’t be together and there isn’t one explicitly stated in canon for obvious reasons… but my money is on Joseph’s dead wife and his quest to save his daughter being the reason. He feels like it would be a betrayal and he’d have to talk to his daughter about it before hand etc.
Then there’s forcing the protagonist to make a choice. I’m thinking it’s at the second or third brush with death where he’s stressing about it and someone (because let’s face it, everyone knows, these two are not subtle) gives him a some thinly veiled metaphorical advice and convinces him he needs to be happy and Joseph decides whatever happens happens and he’s going to run with it. His wife wouldn’t want him to be miserable his whole life and neither would his daughter. He is going to talk to her though
The thing is it works. IT WORKS. BRIAN WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME.
Abbess Beagle is never meant to last long, no one is in fact. As her seasons end Poppy begins to take more charge of her duties as Abbess Beagle struggles for air each day and night. Poppy knows one day, it would be her last ken she makes. Only she can hope she is ready, as well as Barnaby.
I was eating dinner and had a random thought: what species would the Brotherband members be if they were in a Redwall book? After a bit more thinking this is what I came up with:
Thorn - big old grumpy hedgehog
Hal - I'm thinking a small otter
Stig - hare? maybe a hedgehog as well
Ingvar - definitely a badger
Lydia - squirrel
Ulf and Wulf - shrews
Stephen - a mouse
Jesper - I think a squirrel as well
Edvin - also a mouse
Moles aren't fond of sailing, so I don't think any of them would be a mole. Karina is also definitely an otter, and I think Hannah leans more towards being a hedgehog over a hare.
Thought I'd post the timelapse for my favourite drawing I've ever done! Hopefully it gives y'all a bit of a glimpse into my process as an artist. I'm planning to post more timelapses of my art soon!
I do not draw much, but I am trying to fight back against my perfectionist tendencies and do it more, because I'd rather draw badly and have fun than never draw bc I fear it won't be good.
So that disclaimer about my art abilities out of the way...
I drew shifter Jason from Fate Runs on Light Paws 🐾
most of the time Celegorm's mule deer is drawn as a buck, but sometimes it's a doe. And yes a deer and a stoat still manage to push a bear around, somehow.
