England squad for ODI series against New Zealand: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

I mean, it’s incredibly similar to the squad of four years ago that won and won dramatically, which is mainly good. I mean, they absolutely won on a wing and a prayer, but the same team will have the same wings and prayers, so. I’m curious if S Curran will be in the starting XI. Probably - hopefully - and it seems to me that he’s the one projected to take on the Ben Stokes, batting-six-and-there-at-the-end role, and he doesn’t seem ready for that now so I guess the inclusion of Stokes is good. Just, you know, it’s better if everyone arrives in India with the Captain able to move.

I’m a bit surprised by the inclusion of Jason Roy. He hasn’t done much for a while. I guess I’m pleased in the sense that I like loyalty to players, but I was expecting Jacks, Crawley and Foakes and they have all contributed more to recent matches (although admittedly in different formats). But I’m also pleased because I have loyalty to players and if J-Roy can find some form with Jonny, England will stand in incredible stead.

Leaving out Harry Brook though.

Yay, Will Jacks! I think he might be the crucial test player of the future so it’s nice to see him beginning to be included. Also great to see more Rehan Ahmed.

I wondered about Crawley, but the red ball and white ball teams seem to be pulling away from each other to some degree, so I’m not that surprised.

No Dan Lawrence in either format, which is a shame.

I don’t recall Gus Atkinson when Surrey have played Middlesex but I guess he must be something. Surrey are certainly an extremely strong side - the white ball team isn’t a million miles from a Surrey 1st XI. Which brings me to…

England vs India:  England spinner Rehan Ahmed to return home for personal reasons

Young England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed will not take any further part in the five-Test series against India as he is returning home to address some urgent family matters.

The 19-year-old picked up 11 wickets at an average of 44 in the first three Tests of the series, including a six-wicket match haul in the second match in Visakhapatnam.

"Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons with immediate effect from England Men's Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India," England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement on Friday.

"England will not be replacing Ahmed for the rest of the tour."

England on Friday replaced Ahmed with Shoaib Bashir in their playing XI for the fourth Test.

There is just one game remaining in the five-Test series and England have another spinner in their squad in left-arm tweaker Tom Hartley, who is their highest wicket-taker so far in the tour with 16 scalps.

Earlier this month, Ahmed, who is of Pakistani descent, had faced visa issues after arriving from the UAE for the third Test.

He had a single-entry visa that expired once he left for a mid-series break to the UAE, and was initially stopped at the Rajkot airport upon arrival before it was resolved due to the intervention of the Indian government and the BCCI.

India are leading the five-Test series 2-1.

England had won the opening Test by 28 runs but lost the next two matches by 106 runs and 434 runs respectively.

yep i do indeed watch cricket! i tried playing it but unfortunately the hand eye coordination just wasn’t there so gave that up pretty quickly 😭

i support england lancashire and manchester originals n as for favourites? literally anyone in the england squad but i love jimmy anderson, reece topley and ben stokes a lot n jack leach too

Mera naam Ahmed hai aur mai 22 saal ka ek neak shareef musalmaan ladka hoon, Mere abbu dubai me rahte hai aur Meri Ammi SHABANA behad haseen aur mohazzib khatoon hai. Meri 2 behne hai Ek Afiya baji jinki shadi 3 saal pahle hui aur ek beta hai 2 saal ka aur dusri Zubeda jiska nikah hone wala hai.

Ye un dino ki baat hai jab choti behan Zubeda ki shadi ka mahool tha, badi behan Afiya baji apne 2 saal ke bache rehan ke sath aayi hui thi, mere jiju aslam ghar ziyada nahi aate isliye Afiya baji ko bheje kar apni zimmedari se fariq hogaye, Choti behan Zubeda apni shadi ki khushi me khawabo me raha karti thi. Ammi ghar ki zimmedari aur ghar ke sare kaam me hamesha masroof rahti thi, hamare ghar ka naukar Ramesh subah savere aajaya karta tha use kafi madad milti thi hume.

Lekin shadi ke mahool me mai akela in sub kaamo se kafi masroof raha karta tha. Ek baar mai samaan lene bahar nikla mere bachpan ka dost Raghav raste me mila.
