Learning

Learning more about my roots (my family tree) has taught me many things. This year as the year when I really began to care about the importance of such and how it effects me as a soul. More than ever, I realized the importance of ancestors. I noticed how much they mean to me and the work I’m learning to do. I’m still learning a great deal concerning my practices and about my craft in general.

This brings me to the point of this post which is this: everything you will learn takes time.

It takes time to learn much info from your ancestors. It takes time to research new things and see if they work for your spiritual practices. It takes much dedication and time to come into your craft and learn who you are as a blitch.

But baby, the lessons, the sleepless nights, and the hardships all pay off when you come into your own and OWN who you are as a person and as a witch.

May you continue to be blessed and know that you are somebody ❤️🤞🏾.

Church doors have always intrigued me. They have so much history and have the ability to tell a story about the past. They inspire me to think about events that could have occurred in that space. At this particular church, my dad (who is not overly religious) recently held a memorial service for my mother who passed in 2004. I wasn't in the country for the memorial, but got to visit the church on my recent visit to Colombia. Its been a long time since I've had a relationship with a church. My experiences with the church have been that of rebellion, yet I felt calm being in the presence of such a massive and intimidating structure. I know my mom (who practiced religion in her own sense) felt joy with the gestures. Remember your ancestors and keep the memory of them alive. The claiming of Spanish identity for those in the Caribbean, Central and South America is like a badge of pride worn and sung it’s praise when in fact it is an attempt to erase the horrors of the mass genocide of Taino Arawak people first and then subsequently other indigenous nations in what would be called the Caribbean and Americas. The genocide of indigenous people began the process of enslaving African people. They perfected a system of rape, murder, oppression and systematically destroyed, manipulated, annihilated vast cultures across the Caribbean and the Americas. They claimed we were primitive and savage as they mutilated us, built churches or other buildings on our sacred grounds, and killed anyone in horrible ways who opposed them. You calling yourself Spanish is an insult to all our Indigenous ancestors who were murdered, you calling yourself Spanish is an insult to all our African ancestors who were murdered. Someone calling yourself Spanish is a cowardly act as if a claim to Spain will allow you the privilege of whiteness. Spain never gave a fuck about us. They only wanted riches and our fore parents bodies, Indigenous and African, was the way towards that gain.
