Hoping to take it easy after the show finished and it's just been 2 weeks of solid main work (all "urgent" suddenly) and brochure after brochure after brochure after logo design after fucking brochure every damned night for two weeks. I have proper solid time off in two weeks, but don't it always seem to go that you end up getting 16 motherfucking hours of work a day every day when it leads up to it ughhh

Great financial tip! How does the repo rate help control inflation? -2022
The Repo rate, also known as the overnight lending rate, is the rate at which central banks lend money to commercial banks in the event that they need to borrow funds to meet their reserve requirements. When the central bank increases the repo rate, it becomes more expensive for commercial banks to borrow money, which can help to reduce inflation. Read More

Balance
In a post-pandemic world, just surviving feels like a balancing act that is doomed to failure, with cost of many goods more than double what they were in 2019, but salaries and income maybe a percentage point or two more than back then. But, that has little to do with photography, unless you do photography for a living, which, thankfully, I don’t. Supermarkets are nice to shop in, if you can…

Policy Predictions Drive Indian Stock Market: Insights from RBI Study
A recent study by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) found that Indian stock markets are more affected by expectations of future monetary policy changes than by actual policy rate surprises announced by the RBI. This aligns with the idea that stock markets are forward-looking. The study also noted that volatility in stock markets is influenced by both the announcement of policy changes and expectations about future policies, as traders adjust their portfolios throughout the day.
The study revealed that while surprises in repo rate changes have almost no effect on stock returns, expectations about future policy changes remain significant. This indicates that stock markets focus more on predicting future policy actions than reacting to actual rate changes. The analysis covered the period from January 2014 to July 2022, during which India adopted a flexible inflation targeting regime.
Overall, the study suggests that Indian stock markets are highly sensitive to expectations regarding future monetary policy, highlighting the importance of understanding market sentiments and expectations in analyzing stock market behavior.

I don't think people realize how absolutely wild Linux is.
Here we have an Operating system that now has 100 different varieties, all of them with their own little features and markets that are also so customizable that you can literally choose what desktop environment you want. Alongside that it is the OS of choice for Supercomputers, most Web servers, and even tiny little toy computers that hackers and gadget makers use. It is the Operating System running on most of the world's smartphones. That's right. Android is a version of Linux.
It can run on literally anything up to and including a potato, and as of now desktop Linux Distros like Ubuntu and Mint are so easily to use and user friendly that technological novices can use them. This Operating system has had App stores since the 90s.
Oh, and what's more, this operating system was fuckin' built by volunteers and users alongside businesses and universities because they needed an all purpose operating system so they built one themselves and released it for free. If you know how to, you can add to this.
Oh, and it's founder wasn't some corporate hotshot. It's an introverted Swedish-speaking Finn who, while he was a student, started making his own Operating system after playing around with someone else's OS. He was going to call it Freax but the guy he got server space from named the folder of his project "Linux" (Linus Unix) and the name stuck. He operates this project from his Home office which is painted in a colour used in asylums. Man's so fucking introverted he developed the world's biggest code repo, Git, so he didn't have to deal with drama and email.
Steam adopted it meaning a LOT of games now natively run in Linux and what cannot be run natively can be adapted to run. It's now the OS used on their consoles (Steam Deck) and to this, a lot of people have found games run better on Linux than on Windows. More computers run Steam on Linux than MacOS.
On top of that the Arctic World Archive (basically the Svalbard Seed bank, but for Data) have this OS saved in their databanks so if the world ends the survivors are going to be using it.
On top of this? It's Free! No "Freemium" bullshit, no "pay to unlock" shit, no licenses, no tracking or data harvesting. If you have an old laptop that still works and a 16GB USB drive, you can go get it and install it and have a functioning computer because it uses less fucking resources than Windows. Got a shit PC? Linux Mint XFCE or Xubuntu is lightweight af. This shit is stopping eWaste.
What's more, it doesn't even scrimp on style. KDE, XFCE, Gnome, Cinnamon, all look pretty and are functional and there's even a load of people who try make their installs look pretty AF as a hobby called "ricing" with a subreddit (/r/unixporn) dedicated to it.
Linux is fucking wild.

The Plunge Protection Team Wags the Dog with Futures to Manipulate Stock Markets and Bitcoin
"You bought too much meat and used too much electricity last week, a $666.00 fine has been deducted from your account. Sincerely, Klaus Schwab, WEF."
I was surprised after all these years to find a major conspiracy theory that doesn’t have a lame debunking article on Wikipedia. Now that I’ve found one, I’m hopeful that Wikipedia is getting the message: People won’t support censorship outfits like yours, because you’re often wrong about important things (same as me and everyone else). The non-debunked conspiracy theory I’m talking about is…

Paris Hilton was SO game for both house of wax and repo! the genetic opera, she was down for inviting the masses who hated her to "SEE PARIS DIE!" as the marketing for house of wax proudly stated she was down for basically parody how everyone already saw her playing amber sweet as a plastic surgery addict spoiled heiress whose face literally falls off and she even helped out when the movie was running out of budget. she did all that

One thing I wonder about is: If you were designing a financial system from scratch, in 2024, would you come up with banking? That central traditional trick of banks — that they fund themselves with safe short-term demand deposits, and use depositors’ money to invest in risky longer-term loans, with all of the run risk and regulatory supervision and It’s a Wonderful Life-ness that that involves — would you recreate that if you were starting over?
Part of me feels like, if you started a new civilization and put smart but ahistorical tech people in charge of designing a financial system, it would never occur to them to recreate traditional banking. It is so messy and opaque and imprecise, using a shifting pile of demand deposits to fund long-term loans. Plenty of people — insurance companies, retirement savers — want to earn a return on their money and don’t need it anytime soon; their money can be locked up in long-term loans. The money that people keep in the bank just to pay rent and buy sandwiches doesn’t need to be pooled and invested in risky loans; it should just sit in the vault.
This idea — that bank deposits should just sit in the vault (or, realistically, in electronic money at the Federal Reserve), while risky loans should be funded by long-term investors who intend to take those risks — is sometimes called “narrow banking.” It has a long intellectual pedigree, it came back into vogue after the 2008 financial crisis, and it got attention again after last spring’s US regional banking crisis. All those crises! The traditional business of banking is necessarily crisis-prone; using risky long-term loans to back risk-free short-term demand deposits involves a fundamental mismatch, and every so often that flares up into a crisis.
And so, since 2008, but more visibly since last spring, banking really has become narrower. Private credit is the lending side of “narrow banking”: Private credit firms raise dedicated funds, with locked-up money, from investors who intend to invest in long-term loans to earn a return. And private credit is the hottest area of finance, making buyout loans and investment-grade corporate loans and funding consumer loans. And private credit is booming not just as a competitor to banks, but as a funding source for banks: Banks have the relationships and technology to make loans, but not the money, so they partner with private credit to fund the loans.
Meanwhile the deposit side of “narrow banking” is something like banks taking their customers’ money and parking it at the Federal Reserve. And in fact some money has shifted out of banks (which are not narrow) and into government money-market funds (which park the money in Fed repo or Treasury bills). Even within banks, there is less lending.
...
That’s narrow banking. I admit I have a certain emotional soft spot for traditional banking. There is something magical about how banking transmutes risky assets (loans) into risk-free liabilities (deposits). “A banking system is a superposition of fraud and genius that interposes itself between investors and entrepreneurs,” wrote Steve Randy Waldman in 2011; it allows society to use the money of risk-averse depositors to fund risky investments in growth. But it is possible that this magic no longer works: In a world of financial transparency and fast communications technology and flighty deposits, you can’t really expect to hide the risks of the banking system; you have to fund the loans with people who know they’re funding the loans.
I will say, though, that I have also written a lot about crypto over the last few years. Crypto really created a new financial system from scratch, and it started with a very strong philosophical bias against traditional banking. And then it really did recreate traditional banking! And also traditional banking crises: In 2022, it turned out that one of the main uses of crypto was to turn customer demand deposits (of crypto) into extremely risky loans (of crypto), which ended as badly as you’d have expected. “One possibility,” I wrote last year, “is that fractional reserve banking is deeply rooted in human nature.” If you started the financial system over, maybe banking would develop again. Even if actual banking is getting narrower now.
Matt Levine on narrow banking, we talk about this a lot as banks are so fundamental to how our entire civilisation currently functions and yet they're basically just hacks that lurch from crisis to crisis, more evolved than engineered

== Dedication to Matthew ==
For Matthew One of our dear crewmates, Stephanie, lost her son back in 2022. They both watched S1 together, and tragically he passed away not long after. Stephanie has been an active member of our crew for years now, and she reached out to Rhys and he made a lovely Cameo for her. Some of you may have already seen it as she's been kind enough to share it with us previously, but after talking with Stephanie and hearing about who Matthew was, I wanted to put together a small dedication to him, and share Stephanie's words with you with her permission.  Please visit this post here on tumblr for the whole story or here on the Repo for those of you not on tumblr.

what is R!TGO about? I've been curious about watching it for a while, but I'm not too sure what the overall plot is
OHHHHH IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED!!!
It’s the not so distant future… an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet… MILLIONS DIE!!! But then a saviour emerges… a company called Gene Co, which offers organs on finance! Surgery now, debt payment later!
Gene Co carves out a new niche, surgery as a fashion statement! Surgery is on vogue, and a drug called Zydrate makes the intensive procedures feel like nothing at all! A black market version of the drug is sold by graverobbers, extracted from corpses… which there are a lot of. Gene Co has a monopoly on surgery and Zydrate otherwise.
And if you don’t pay back your debt to Gene Co? Then… theY SEND OUT THE REPO MEN!!!! WHO REPOSESS YOUR TRANSFERRED ORGANS!!! BY DISEMBOWELLING YOU WITH COMICALLY ABSURD GORE EFFECTS!!!! AND SINGING JOVIALLY WHILE THEY DOOOOO!!!!!!!
The movie itself starts when the founder of Gene Co, Rotti Largo, falls terminally ill. He must choose one of his three batshit insane children to inherit the company and its fortune. One of his children is a surgery addict, the other wears women’s skinned faces for fashion, and the last one stabs people whenever he’s angry. Which is always. He is always angry. And he really likes ripping open his shirt. And yelling.
It seems Rotti Largo has his eyes on someone *other* than his own kids though… a sheltered 17 year old girl who’s spent her life indoors because of an inherited blood disease, it’s just her and her very normal doting father! So how does Rotti know her? And why has he invited her to the opera tonight, to see the final performance of Gene Co’s beloved poster child Blind Mag? AND HOW MANY TERRIBLE GORE SCENES, TERRIBLE DIALOGUE EXCHANGES, EARLY 2000S EVANESCENCE MUSIC VIDEO-ESQUE FILTERS, CHEEZY SHOTS, ABSURD TWISTS AND TURNS, AND BATSHIT INSANE SCENES CAN WE CRAM INTO 1 HOUR AND 38 MINUTES?
This synopsis makes it sound like a somewhat coherent story. I promise you it is not. The execution of this plot is so bad it’s perfection. My fav response to the film from someone ik was “The first time I watched it I had a high fever and was sure I hallucinated some of it. I was wrong. It’s exactly how I remember. It’s just like that.” paraphrasing (hi if you see this :3). It’s gorey it’s campy it’s terrible and it takes itself so seriously. The line delivery is so comically bizarre. The gore has cartoon sound effects. The music actually slaps. The main character is so painfully Y/N. And the writer/ co-director cast himself to play the cool mysterious sexy dude that every woman falls at the feet of. And Paris Hilton is there. Everything about it is PERFECT. Number one favourite film of all time.
