I’ve seen a lot of the hashtag “Rhys Darby Faction” on twitter and I feel like you’re a bit of a Rhys expert so I was wondering if that title has some sort of origin story lol

Haha, hey anon! Well you've come to the right place! *rhys voice* Pull up a rock or a chair or something and I'll tell you a tale! So back in February there was a twitter poll that asked who the best actor was that was born in 1974, and Rhys Darby was on the list.

So, it got around (this was after first cancellation by max, but before dad calling things off so there were a lot of active people on twitter) and hundreds of people shared, voted, etc and suddenly, this "Poll guy" as we dubbed him later, was ultra surprised and skeptical of the sudden influx of responses.

So after that-- those of us on Twitter at the time, who were sharing the poll around decided to take on that hashtag RhysDarbyFaction and make it our own.

We even got some lower level trends a couple times.

Poll-Guy Max came around to accepting us ofmd fans at some points because it was increasing his polls results.

At first, RhysDarbyFaction was just people using the hashtag, but then several of us got into a private chat and decided to start a discord server as a bit of a joke.

Well, after that, the discord server blew up! And now we hold WP every week, and chat and talk about Rhys Darby! We try for it to be a SafeSpaceShip as best we can, although just like any fandom space there have been some growing pains, but we keep pivoting and working on trying to make things better as time goes on.

So yeah! Thats the origin of the RhysDarbyFaction. Just fans being silly and banding together to try and get more recognition for our dear captain Rhys Darby.

Do you need to be on the discord server to be part of the Rhys Darby Faction? Absolutely not! Support the Darbster and be kind, and you're in. :) Anyway, I hope that helps anon!
