Apep, also referred to as Apepi, Apopis, Rerek, Apophis, etc., was the greatest foe of the sun god Ra. Apep is often depicted as a demon of chaos in the skin of a serpent. Which is contradictory to Egyptian belief because oftentimes snakes were symbols of divinity and royalty. However, Apep was threat to the world of the living and the realm of the gods as he often attacked Ra when he brought forth day light (this is how Egyptians rationalized solar eclipses - Apep swallowed the boat of Ra). By attempting to stop the day, he also attempted to stop time. Ironically, of all the people to help stop Apep, it was Set who rode with Ra in the mornings at the bow of the ship in order to stab Apep with his spear. IN MY OPINION Apophis in your chart can represent a) what is outside of your control, b) where there is evil/chaos in your life, and/or c) who tries to stop you or disrupt your peace.

The Heart of All Nightmares // Deity Verse

Titles: Lord of Night Terrors, the Fear King, Gifter of Horrible Freedom, Discord Bringer, Whisperer of Forbidden Truths.

Names: Laudomus, Vaerthis, Morpheus, Rerek, Law (to his friends only).

Domain: Nightmares, Fear, and Chaos.

Realm: He exists in the realm of dreams and cannot leave unless moving through one of his icons or idols. He can possess his followers if they perform the right ritual or be pulled through into the human realm but he can’t step foot in it on his own accord. His realm is a swirling place of darkness and misshapen horror. It changes with his unpredictable whims and can warp into whatever those who visit him fear the most. It is a maddening place for mortals to look upon.

Cults: He has a few cults that interpret his nature differently but there are three main ones. They are as follows:

> The Harbingers of Release - A group of doomsday cultists that aim to bring their god into the mortal realm so he can spread his liberating chaos across it.

> The Fear Hunters - These are thrill seekers that believe facing great terror and adversity is a way to reach enlightenment and is how they show their devotion.

> The Ineffable Dreamers - A peaceful cult that slip regularly into trances and dreamlike states through drug use that believe their god is trying to impart hidden knowledge through their nightmares.

Offerings: Beast hearts (including human), lavender incense, gold coins, or simply the delicious taste of your fear.

Description: For the most part he appears human but he is a shapeshifter. Like his nightmare realm, the god of Nightmares, Fear and Discord can take the form of anything that brings terror and fear to those who look upon him. He does have a normal shape he prefers. This is humanoid in form but his skin is slate grey and is covered in tattoos that look more like cracks in stone. Black smoke swirls from these cracks, drifting off him in impossible, chaotic motions. He can shape this smoke into the terrors he creates or into whatever thing he needs. His hair, both the goatee and the hair on his head, is black obsidian that reflects and absorbs light. His eyes, lacking pupils, glow gold, the light dull but can be blinding. This light sits in his mouth too, glowing behind fanged, vicious teeth.

Origins:

Laudomus, the God of Nightmares, Fear, and Discord, was born from the sleeping mind of the Father Titan. He came into complete mature being in an instant within the maelstrom that was the Titan’s nightmares. He knew his nature, knew his very being in that instant, but perhaps not his purpose. Yet, he reveled in the fear and terror about him and soaked in the nightmare the great Father Titan endured.

He was content in this unending twisting terror when suddenly a light pierced the Titan’s eyes, awakening him and ending the Nightmare. From the light was birthed his sister, the Goddess of Light and Guidance. As he brings terror and fear to the minds of mortals, she guides them from his dark embrace and shows them there is hope and light ahead. It is their duality and their symbiosis.

However, he can’t say he is completely happy with this, because as she can walk in the light and to other realms, he is trapped in the nightmare. Forever behind the eyes of the Father Titan, be they open or closed.
