Une's Nonsensical Ramblings Episode 3;
Blind Faith
Oh, oh this AU. How wonderfully fucked up.
First, lets take the basics of this and explain it out. Stan and Ford go through the portal together, during the fight between them Stan still gets branded, is still injured, and both are still pretty pissed all things considered. And Ford blinds Stan with a blindfold (eventually permanently blinding him) for the purpose of protecting his mind. One thing I've never quite understood about that is;
Why is Stan blinded?
It seems counterintuitive, doesn't it? To rob the stronger of the two of sight, thus making him impaired and unable to properly use his more apt strength. Ford, regardless of mental state, would be able to see that blinding his only help in this situation would only be a set back.
Unless he was tricked into believing that weren't the case, of course. Perhaps Bill, after the incident with Fiddleford catching a glimpse, convinced Ford that only he was able to perceive the contents of the other side without extreme consequence (such as acute insanity, etc.)? That allowing Bill into his mind and body gave him the capability to withstand the horrors that lay beyond. Playing into Ford's lone wolf complex, as well as building onto his insecurity born mindset of being far too different from the average man to be one with the general populace, Bill weaves a narrative that only Ford can enter through and stay sane (at least, stay sane longer than the average human) - maybe as a means to stop Ford from allowing anyone else through, anyone else that could see his true plans. Easier to deal with the human you've already bent around your claw than a human you don't know.
Armed with this narrative where Ford had it drilled into his head that Stan catching even a seconds worth he would, just like Fiddleford, start to go mad, it makes the blinding far more reasonable. Yes, Stan is not nearly as able and independent in a blindfolded state, but the sanctity of his mind is better than anything else.
Ford is able to justify it, this way. I just have a hard time coming to terms with the idea of Ford making such a blatant tactical error without reasonable doubt and excuse for the action.
Now that we have that out of the way, we need to think of the Stans separately, in regards to mental state and how it would change as they go through the multiverse together (or how it would degrade, more aptly).
Ford;
Still pissed, still sleep deprived, still paranoid beyond measure. Ford would develop into a near-manipulative nutcase as time went on. He'd acknowledge the power dynamic he's inadvertently created between him and Stan, in the act of blinding him. Needing to herd him like a shepherd. The act of which would go to his head after a while. In his state he'd convince himself what he's doing is right, that he's protecting Stan by keeping him this way. Which would eventually reach a crescendo with actually permanently blinding him, after one too many close calls where Stan nearly removes the blindfold. It's for his own good, he'd justify.
As he learns more of Stan's life after being kicked out, this would only increase. He'd feel immense guilt from all angles and without a proper head to stand on would act impulsively about it. Despite this all, he's still the mastermind of them both. I imagine he'd be able to twist things to their collective favor, with complex plots that compensate for Stan's lack of vision.
His goal to defeat Bill would drive him, and his goal to keep them both alive would keep him from losing the plot entirely. His issues in having faith in others would carry onto Stan, as well. Unable to trust him with anything, unable to disclose much information, he feels that for Stan ignorance truly is bliss and keeps him near completely in the dark. Much to Stan's dismay, of course. Ford becomes prideful, unhinged, aggressive and impulsive and cryptic. Yet despite it all he still DOES care for Stan - even if Stan's presence doesn't necessarily help him - and would go crazy if he ever lost him in any way. Situations where they're separated are panic incarnate for him. I can see situations where Ford was stuck under something in the carnage around them and Stan was not, trying to lead Stan around with the sound of his voice and the snapping of his fingers for echolocation (something he probably taught to Stan for that purpose specifically).
Which, brings us to the man himself.
Stan;
Stan would be completely ass out in this situation. First the dashing of hope, followed by a fight, ending with a brand, and beginning a new hell of blackness and insanity. Still pissed, he'd keep fighting Ford even through the portal, confused as to why Ford is less hitting back and more desperately trying to cover his eyes up. Hearing him out after a while of tense shouting, he'd begrudgingly accept the blindfold only after Ford nearly erupts into a paranoid fit trying to explain what would happen to Stan if he saw what they were in.
His distrust is blatant, he will take any and every chance to attempt seeing anything, but Ford is even more paranoid than he is, and always catches him. Stan knows he's in a hell dimension, and he's desperate to be useful and help more than be a pack mule for the items they've accrued, but Ford will never let him. All the way up until Ford actually, legitimately blinds him. Forcing Stan to be dependent to Ford, as well as making him sufficiently near-useless. Over time he'll start to trust Ford again. What other option does he have? He'd continue to follow him, continue to do as he says. Despite it all he still cares for Ford, even if it isn't exactly logical. Sure the guy hated him for the better half of their lives, sure they fought, sure he BLINDED him, but he's also the only person that's ever actively taken care of him. There have been many others before Ford that've hurt him, but all of them left him to die. Ford didn't. Ford didn't have to make sure he was healthy, make sure he was fed and had water and stopped when he said he was tired. All the same, he didn't have to care about Ford in turn. But he did. Maybe he's a fool for that, maybe he should run as fast and as far away from Ford as he can but he doesn't.
He's always been stupid like that, hasn't he?
What are they, some 10-odd years after the portal incident?
After a few decades of mental hell and tormentation, perpetuated by crime and hard survival, Ford and Stan are hardly anything they were when they left their home dimension. Stan is quiet, more focused, jumpy and attentive and clingy to Ford. And Ford is paranoia incarnate, he cannot and will never put the gun down. He's loud, he's demanding, he shoots first and asks questions later. He's even jumpier than Stan is, and the moment the other leaves his sight he's threatening the nearest living soul. And I imagine Stan being away from Ford is a scary thought for him, as well. With Ford he had guaranteed safety, he knew where to put his feet, he had stability. But without him? He was even blinder than normal. I imagine if he ever found himself away from Ford he'd stand still and listen, either for the sound of Ford snapping to lead him to his general location or maybe even footsteps that match the sound of his brothers. His dependency would only get worse as the years go by, and Ford's protector complex would only worsen.
Despite this, Stan is still Ford's rock, and keeps him sane. When Ford's damn near about to snap, Stan has them sit down. He cracks jokes. Lightens the mood, any way he can. Reassures Ford.
When things are calm, Ford likes to describe things to Stan. The way the sky in the dimension their in looks, the colors around them, the places they were around that day, etc. It's the closest thing Stan has to seeing those things. And while Ford does write it all down, he makes sure to tell things to Stan that he feels he can - without stressing him out or stating too much, stuff Stan isn't 'built to hear'.
They become a mutualistic symbiotic duo, to put it bluntly. A bloody, messy, unstable symbiosis where Ford helps Stan physically and Stan helps Ford mentally.
They're criminals, vagrants, murderers and nomads. But most of all, they're brothers. Brothers that have been terrible to each other, breaking and maiming each other, but they rely on themselves.
They're all they have.
Gonna tag @koraesdoodles and @trangenderstan cause you guys requested this AU :D I admit I didn't change much. Just built on mental states and gave probable backstory to the major element of the AU.
I can see myself making a fic about this. Who knows, might just do one.
Next episode; Evil!Stan

Note
Hi hi, I'm already obsessed with your IF and Fyodor. With such a huge cast of detailed and diverse characters I wanted to ask if there was any specific inspiration behind them or if they were based on anything?
Aha, well, honest answer? (;´∀`) Insurrection: HAWKS in its earliest conception was a collection of OCs for a fandom in middle school within that universe. As time progressed, I became detached from the fandom . . . yet my fondness for the characters remained.
It became a matter of just daydreaming them into different realities / scenarios to pass the time. Out of all these alternate realities, the one that I kept returning to was a superhuman AU (as Marvel hype had been at its continuous high). Yet, for some, traces of their fandom origin linger. Additionally, the division of the factions are quite reminiscent of their original factions as OCs. Other than that, characters largely came to be inspired by the music I listened to.
Beneath the cut are more details for those interested and the music that inspired Fyodor.
I will admit that few characters resemble their original designs and / or personalities as massive revisions took place between their transfer from fandom OCs to Insurrection characters. Even more overhaul occurred as the series transitioned from linear with Curadora as the protagonist to interactive with the MC as the lead as once minor characters needed extensive fleshing out to undertake leading ensemble roles. Though numerous characters were founded upon music, some were created by taking a major archetype and then just whittling down from there as I incorporated the environment of their new origin / born-into circumstances. Some just organically changed in my mind over time to barely resemble their starting point. (Retriever has swung the pendulum quite a bit before reaching his current balance. (¬_¬) )
The MC is a character that is entirely original to the interactive version of Insurrection and, thus, they had been the most difficult when it came time to consider their Gift (and faction). I had considered granting options for different powers but the code would be too complex. I had also worried the story would seem to stale if the MC was limited to one ability: super strength, flight, speed, and all the other classics. Once I combined the narrative into a tie-in with other original fiction ideas I had (as touched upon further down) I wanted the MC to have a copycat ability, yet my initial idea for a touch-based activation seemed to risk too much overpowered potential. My decision for the MC, however, became final after I re-listened to some songs I had liked in middle school and became inspired by Saints At The Gates by The Golden Dogs. That and a reminiscence on vampiric symbolism that my teacher covered in high school as we read Effi Briest by Theodore Fontaine. Hence, a vampiric copycat MC with some other twists in store for them.
To tie up some loose ends in Insurrection regarding the Gifts that would have otherwise been unnoted upon, I decided to create a sort of "extended universe" between this series and other ideas of original fiction I had. [The strongest ties would have been with In Blind Reverence (Seven Sins and Heavenly Virtues inspired), Hunters (space and mythology, WIP title), and the Faith and Beauty / Rebirth universe (court intrigue with fantasy, WIP titles).] This, too, turned the narrative in an entirely new direction as it gave me more liberty to expand upon the Gifts and their nature.
And due to the specific mention of Fyodor, I have decided to list the collection of songs that heavily fed into his creation:
Tickle Me Pink by Johnny Flynn
Cold Bread by Johnny Flynn
I Am Steve by Hey Steve
If I Ever Feel Better by Phoenix
The Moss by Cosmo Sheldrake
Lay Down by Caravan Palace
Russian by Caravan Palace (in relation to Curadora)
For the Departed by Shayfer James
Winter Windows by Sea Wolf
King Rat by Modest Mouse
White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes
Sleepyhead by Passion Pit (in relation to Curadora)
Better by The Honeysticks, Rick Montgomery
Kalinka as sung by the Red Army Choir
Apologies for the unfocused tant, and thank you for the ask!

Self-interview (but not really) Part 2
Thanks again @sherlollyappreciationweek
Comp1mom
Q: What made you decide to create a “Christian” version of Sherlock?  According to the BBC version, he is a self-avowed atheist.
A: When I look at Sherlock’s true nature, I see such potential for him as a Christian.  He exhibits so many characteristics that we, as Christians, try to show - forgiveness of wrongs done to him (note how he doesn’t fight back when John assaults him); sacrificial love (his willingness to die for others, as in TRF); the desire for true justice, the way Moriarty says he’s  “on the side of the angels”.  At least for me, I was intrigued by the idea of converting him to Christianity, to give him a true purpose for his life that has eternal consequences.
Q: Do you think that portraying Sherlock as a Christian is important? Why or why not?
A: I am always hopeful that people will read and see the validity in my reasoning for him becoming a Christian, given how often he has escaped death.  Quite often, in stories, Molly puts the question to him - Why are you still here?  Why have you escaped death so many times?  That should be enough to make anyone reevaluate their life’s purpose.
Q: Molly Hooper is the one who proselytizes him, right? Why do you use Molly? Why not John, who must be a believer in Christ in some way or he would have had a problem with christening Rosie?
A: For me, it HAD to be Molly.  Her character and the way she behaves in the show is consistent with the behaviour of a Christian.  She loves Sherlock unconditionally; she sees beyond the detective persona to the real man beneath.  She needs to be the catalyst for Sherlock to be open to the idea of Christianity, because he loves and trusts her.  John, although he certainly believes in God and has some Christian (or Catholic in my story canon) background, does not live a life that is consistent with Christianity and its ideals.  He has multiple sexual partners.  Although I think he is an ethical man, I don’t believe he has the kind of sexual morality that is typical of committed Christians. Identifying yourself as a Christian because you were raised in a Christian home and went to church, does not make you one if you display behaviour that is contrary to what the Bible teaches.  Either you’re committed to what you believe and try to follow what the Bible teaches, or you are not really committed to your faith, (not that Christians are perfect - far from it, but we do try to follow what the Bible teaches, and we feel guilt when we fail).  There’s a difference between being a Jesus fan and a Jesus follower.
Q: What evidence does Molly use to convince Sherlock of a Higher Power?
A:  In various stories, Molly points out the beauty and balance of creation, that it does not make sense for that balance to have occurred spontaneously.  She also points out the complexity of the human body and how it is built with all its systems designed to work in harmony.  Personally, I believe these two facts are huge considerations, and that it takes far less of a leap in logic to believe something created this beauty, rather than it happening spontaneously.  Molly also points out the fact that Sherlock has been spared from death so many times and asks him to question why that is so, whether there is a higher purpose to his life because of that.
Q: How do you maintain Sherlock’s acerbic wit and still have him believe that Jesus Christ is more than a swear, is a deity, the Deity?
A:  I try to show that Sherlock is not the “perfect” Christian.  He has many years of conditioning in one type of behaviour, and that is something that is going to come out from time to time. I don’t find it as difficult to write him as someone who does not use the name of Jesus Christ in a profane way, because he doesn't talk that way in the show (unlike John). Personally, I am also not comfortable in writing (or reading) stories that use the name of Jesus Christ as an expletive.
Q: What does belief in Jesus Christ do for his detective work? Or does it influence his detective work?
A: Oh, I definitely think his faith adds an element of compassion to Sherlock’s detective work.  He is no longer answerable only to himself, but he is trying to behave in a way that displays his faith and pleases God.  That means thinking before he speaks, caring about the people involved in the case, rather than just the case itself. His motives, to glorify God in his work, are his priority.
Q: Is there any evidence in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s writing that Sherlock Holmes believes in Something Higher than himself?
A:  I absolutely believe ACD’s Sherlock believed in God, which is one of the reasons I felt it believable to change BBC Sherlock’s atheistic stance.  ACD’s Sherlock mentions Providence, as evidenced in this quote from The Naval Treaty.
“Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.”
Also, in The Boscombe Valley Mystery, when Sherlock lets a dying killer go, he says, “You are yourself aware that you will soon have to answer for your deed at a higher court than the Assizes.” This implies God will judge the man after he dies.
Penelope Chestnut
Q: How long have you written  Sherlolly stories? What made you start writing?
A: A dear friend of mine recommended watching Sherlock, and my husband and I binge watched it in the summer of 2017.  After the final episode, I was so sad that the Sherlock and Molly dynamic was not resolved, I was moved to write a happy ending for them.  My daughters have been involved in fanfiction for years, so I knew people did this kind of thing.  My intention was to write a one-shot happy ending for them, just for my own satisfaction.  After I wrote it, though, I found I didn't want to let the characters go.   I had fallen in love with their story, and I wanted to keep writing for them.  60 chapters later, I decided to start publishing my story, A Journey to Love, Faith and Marriage.  This was just over 3 years ago, on November 7th 2017,  when I joined fanfiction.net.  I later joined ao3 as well and was publishing on both sites for quite some time.  I've had a better response though on fanfiction.net, so have pretty much limited myself to that site over the past year and a half.  I continue to make revisions and correct errors on my fanfiction.net stories, while I don’t really do anything on ao3. I have been likened to a writing machine on a couple occasions.  To date, on fanfiction.net, I have published over 1.9m words.  Putting that in perspective, in three years I've published the equivalent of more than 7 volumes of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the longest book in her series), or close to two and a half volumes of the Holy Bible.
Q: Do you have a certain routine you follow when you write?
A: I don’t have a set daily routine, but I do set myself a goal to complete a certain amount of work per week.  This has changed over time.  Currently, I set myself the goal to write at least one chapter of a story each week, to keep myself in line with my publishing schedule of one chapter per week.  If I am writing an installment for my COVID-19 series that is published in addition to my regular publishing schedule, I still try to write that in addition to my usual chapter writing for the week.  So, at times I write more in a week than other times. I am also working on revising one of my AU’s into a Christian historical romance I hope to publish professionally next year.
Q: What is it like being a Christian author?
A: It brings me joy to spread a Christian message through my work, but, like anyone else, at times I do suffer self-doubt.  I've questioned in the past whether my limited audience makes worthwhile the enormous effort I put into writing these stories.  It can definitely be discouraging to get very little return on your work, and I have a bad habit of comparing myself to more “popular” writers in the fandom.  I am, however, getting better at recognizing my own self-worth, having confidence that the lack of readers is not a reflection on my ability and talent as a writer, but more a reflection on the general lack of interest from the majority of Sherlolly fans in reading stories with Christian themes and the values that go along with it (particularly sexual purity outside marriage). Just as I don’t care to read stories of characters with a colourful sexual history because I don’t agree with that kind of behaviour due to my Christian beliefs, I imagine those without similar beliefs are probably not interested in reading about sexual purity or abstinence before marriage, as it is not something they can relate to. Thankfully, I am blessed to have a small but vocal support group who really give me the impetus to keep writing these Christian stories.
Q: Are there any devices you use in your writing as a legally blind author?
A:  As I mentioned earlier, I absolutely would be lost without my iPad.  Actually, it is the larger sized iPad Pro.  I would also be lost without programs that give me the ability to resize the font so I can read it!  Thank God for technology!
If you made it to the end of this two-part interview, I hope you enjoyed getting to know my writing journey better.  God bless!

"And she's thinking of rage, like an ember or a burning acid swallowing up her knotted viscera. Blindness like the kind that leads men to perpetrate horrors, animal drunkenness, the jungles of the mind. "

"If you lay a hand on her, I will destroy you.  I will rip your head off with my bare hands and watch you burn in the sun ."

(What'd you know? Found two quotes that really fit the overall tone of this chapter again)
" You okay Natsu?"
Lucy's gentle call of Natsu's name broke through his reverie bringing his attention back to the present."
"Yeah Luce, just trying to figure out how to wrap my head around all this" came Natsu's reply, sincere words nothing but reassuring. The dragonslayer knew he mostly wasn't one to lie, but also didn't wish to run the of risk alarming his best friend any further than she was .
Besides, I am actually okay—for the most part . Just gotta try and stay positive for Lucy's sake.
Natsu did notice however, that if he concentrated just enough, he could actually will the newly-sprouted leathery wings to retract just enough until they were gone completely— a tremendous relief if nothing to say the least .
"What about you? How are ya ' holding up?"
"Not entirely well, but a bit better with you here . "
"I know, it's a lot to take in right now—believe me. But I promise we're gonna be okay."
"There's not a doubt in my mind but what're we going to do?"
"We'll figure it—"
The sound of approaching footsteps echoing on stone broke through their conversation putting Natsu's senses on high alert. It was then to the realization dawned upon the fire demon that in all the mayhem, he'd forgotten they weren't alone; mentally cursing himself for having let such a critical fact slip his mind. Not to mention the sinking knot in settling the pit of his stomach when it was the demon Tempester, Natsu lifted his head to see striding towards them with a sinister expression; which raised his hackles enough for his lips to pull back revealing a flash of canines in a savage show of teeth.
"What do you think you're doing?!" He growled, a flare of stonecold fury ticking through scarlet eyes, The sound of his warning was downright ferocious, not to mention lethal with the threat of violence if the other etherious even so much as tried to lay a hand on Lucy. "Stay the hell away from us!"
Tempester merely raised a hand in response as if to silence him, clearly not deter any of Natsu's feral growls ripping from his chest.
"Easy there Lord E.N.D— no need to be so hostile" The etherious's voice was seemingly unruffled , a chillingly stark contrast to the malicious smile gracing his lips—so much so it sent off alarm bells off in Natsu's head. "I only wished to officially welcome you to our ranks as Master for which congratulations are in order. You've finally returned home to us, all while starting to realize your true potential in the process—though we didn't know it was you at first. Still, it's good to have you back after being away so long Now allow me to be of service by disposing of the celestial wizard for you as an act of good faith."
The thinly- veiled threat kicked Natsu's already fiercely protective instincts to keep Lucy safe into high-gear, manifesting in another guttural snarl of bestial proportions he let loose when his arms automatically tightened against her of their own accord at the same time.
"Touch her you bastard and I swear I'll burn ya' to a crisp!"
If he even tries anything... I swear to God...
Something strange seemed to stirring within Natsu just then, the infinite possibilities of all the unimaginable amount of the blood he could spill if the other demon didn't heed the warning ; appealing to a darker part of him that was once dormant. His words clearly seemed to fall on deaf ears however, when Tempester took another step forward—which only served to make the dragonslayer's blood boil.
"Hey! didn't you hear what I just said? stay back—don't come any closer!" Natsu hissed, baleful voice laced with venom that bordered on lethal. "Unless you want me to incinerate you you stand." One of his hands not pressed against Lucy's back was immediately engulfed in flames to empathize his point at the same time.
Pretty sure I could quite literally roast this guy if I have to. I'm not afraid to have little blood on my hands if it means protecting Lucy.
The ominous-sounding, residual, voice Natsu heard earlier seemed to stir again ; whispers echoing in the recesses his mind of just how easy it would be to set Tempester blaze, quite literally going up in flames without so much as being touched. Thoughts swimming, tempting Zeref's most powerful etheriouswith sadistic images of sizzling flesh melting off bone, blood vessels rupturing, liquified internal organs being broiled from the inside out until there was nothing left of the worthless lesser demon- scum known as Calamity but a charred pile of ashes. Oh the demon lord thirsted for this bastard's blood, how he's—-
Wait— just what the hell am I thinking?! Natsu railed against himself. I may be a demon, but I'm not some bloodthirsty monster! Butchering people like that ain't my style—not anymore anyway. God... what's wrong with me? Still , I'm gonna keep Lucy safe regardless of who or what I am.
"Master, if you just hand the girl over me I promise to make her death as swift and painless as possible."
Tempester's coldblooded voice snapped the fire wizard out of his reverrie.
"Not a chance ! There's no way in hell that I'm giving Lucy up to you!"
"Oh? Is that you already exercising your authority I hear?" Tempester praised, words pulling the corner of lips up into a smirk as if caught was between genuine amusement and pride. "I'm impressed."
"Yeah? Well that's just too damn bad, cuz I couldn't give a crap bout being your stupid master!"
" Yes, well, you might feel that way now but you'll change your mind— you'll see. It's only a matter of time before you realize who you're truly meant to be and help restore our guild. Not to mention remake this pathetic world in our image."
It was then that Lucy finally opted to speak up who no doubt probably had been watching the tense encounter with uneasy eyes up until this point.
"You're clearly out of your mind if that's what you think Natsu is all about!" She seethed , honey-brown eyes, alight with a obstinate fire. "Don't you dare you talk about Natsu as if you know him! He's not the monster you say he is—not anymore!"
"Oh really? That so, little girl?" Tempester's scoffed , disdain colouring his patronizing tone. " Now tell me— why should I listen to pointless chatter from a pathetic human like you ?
"Cuz she's right,"The son of Igneel's words rang with steely conviction when he chimed in response to the other etherious . "And definitely not pathetic. In fact, hearing you run your god damn rotten mouth about her like that makes me want to help her bash your ugly face in." Hearing Lucy's words of faith was honestly enough for his heart to trill, Tempester's of utter contempt in regards to his best friend for his blood to boil; All in all, steeling his nerves for combat.
"Yeah? I'd sure as hell like to see that!"
"Oh, you will— trust me."
His body automatically steeling himself for battle, Natsu pledged a vow to keep his the celestial mage safe from harm.
No matter what happens, I swear I'm gonna do whatever it takes to protect Lucy and to fight this darker part of me for everyone's sake . I will prove this Calamity bastard who think he knows me wrong, not to mention make everyone I love and care for proud— especially Igneel, Lucy and Happy.

Tag you're it! Please read a chapter, drabble, one shot, or whatever and leave a review for the writer with your thoughts! We could all use a little positivity as we head back into another week :) Tag five others when you're done! Thank you 😙
Happy International Fanworks Day, C! (So says AO3 anyway)
Karma by @pookieh: This was the steamy third installment (I won’t say final because I’m too greedy to accept that) of Pooks’ coffee shop modern AU drabble. And the girl did not disappoint. The first two chapters were fraught with sexual tension (hotter than a steaming cup of coffee), and here it all, uh, comes to ah, um, head. It’s a Smutternaut (aka smut juggernaut).
Galone’s Valentine by @mega-aulover: I’m a sucker for some Galone comedy, and Rachel delivered, from squeaky shoes and tight pants to a tie dredging in a bowl of soup. I had the biggest grin on my face the entire time... how can one character’s suffering bring such innocent, uncomplicated joy? Oh, but it does.
Love Is... Unexpected by @peetabreadgirl: This is another wonderful case of Galone striking out before he even gets on that blind date. I love the set up to this story, and there was something so heartbreakingly sweet and wonderful about Peeta eating dinner alone on Valentine’s Day, unknowingly waiting for the love of his life to mistakenly stumble into his life. Beautifully told.
Behind Blue Eyes by @maxwellandlovelace: Cashmere, Peeta’s horrid ex, shows up to wreak all kinds of havoc in the latest chapter, and I want to smash a bottle and get into a bar brawl with her. This story has the perfect blend of sweetness and bitterness, smut and angst, and I just want Everlark to love each other and be okay... but when is life ever that simple? Tina’s doing a wonderful job developing Everlark’s relationship as they come to terms with the ghosts of their pasts, some of whom refuse to stay there.
Everdeen Vineyards by @muttpeeta: Amy dropped this Valentine’s Day surprise at the 11th hour, I think. *Crows with delight*. Peeta shows up at the grand re-opening of Katniss’ family vineyard, and wouldn’t you know he gets a private tour of the entire estate? *wink* This was a combination of two of my favorite things, Everlark and wine, beautifully executed by one of my favorite authors, and an all-around mensch.
Five Hearts and untitled ficlet by @jeeno2: Jenn’s been writing Everlark, guys. Let me repeat this. Jenn’s been writing Everlark. 2016 was a turdfest, 2017 might be the apocalypse, but this fact alone has me singin’ in the rain. The first fic is friends-to-lovers, told over five different Valentine’s Days... say no more. (Where’s that gif of Jason Momoa busting out the lawn chair?), and the second fic involves Everlark meeting at a wedding. (Crawls on Jason Momoa’s lap with a boxed wine and drinking straw). Keep ‘em coming, lady. I’ve been loving the show.
The Nine Times Peeta Mellark Fell In Love by @the-peeta-pocket: This isn’t a new story by any means (I think I was traveling abroad the week this came out, in fact), but I just discovered it on AO3 while creepin’ on Faith’s stories. Nine vignettes of Peeta falling back (or more?) in love with Katniss after his hijacking... told with such agonizing beauty I want to cut my heart out with a spoon.
No Baggage by @lvfics: Bri originally wrote this for MoreS2SL and is in the process of revising and posting to AO3... and I’m loving it. It’s a crime caper... Peeta is a wealthy business on the lam in Europe, and he encounters a mysterious woman on the train. Her WIP Meadow Lake Country Club, by the way, is also a must-read.
Extension Request by @deinde-prandium: I don’t know how a fluffy, sweet comedy can have me hanging on tenterhooks, but I am. Katniss gets her wisdom teeth pulled and sends an unfortunate email to a certain blue-eyed TA. I am as mortified as she is waiting for his response.
Masquerade by @belladonnablush: This was written back in 2013, but I chanced upon it the other day and holy. hell. is. it. hot. I’m a sucker for a well-written, smutty modern AU. (And Halloween to boot!)
@eala-musings: I’m beta-reading Carolyn’s new WIP at the moment, a crossover of three texts. Can’t really say much more about it except you’re gonna love it... as always, she masterfully adapts the source material and captures the heart and soul of Everlark. Her attention to detail... it’s staggering. In the meantime, you should brush up on her other stories if you haven’t already!
Special shout outs to @everlart, @ombradellaluna, @akai-echo, for some of their art work that has cropped up on my dash the past week, too. Whether it’s adorable, blushing Everlark (that first kiss!!!!), Everlark at home in the bath, or hundreds of banners, you’ve made the fandom so beautiful with your art. I’m not an artist, but I’ve spent hours pouring over your work, admiring the details, and staring in awe at something I could never do in a thousand years.
Next up on my docket... catching up on the recent chapters of @mtk4fun‘s latest WIP, Everything But Money and @katnissdoesnotfollowback‘s WIPs Pure and Leading Suspects.
And of course to you, @everllarkingnewtina, for your recent chapter of Bride and Fortune! You’re taking your readers on a mad cap spin of THG/Pride and Prejudice/Bride and Prejudice. Get hustlin’ on the next chapter while you’ve got your fightin’ spirit. ;)
