favourite colour schemes: cotton candy colors! Cool tones, black and white, greys, love pink and blue mostly. My bedroom walls are like bubblegum pink and cotton candy blue.

what languages do you speak: Just English. And enough welsh I feel cool but not enough to do anything functional.

dreams/aspirations: Getting through the day. Not having to go grocery shopping ever again. I have an image of me sitting against a fence looking up at these tomato plants growing over my head and the sun coming through the green leaves and I'm comfortable and warm and I think I'm on my way to That.

long or short hair: I'd like it to me long but I've had it literally every length. Including once I did a mohawk and it was buzzed buzzed on like 80% of my head haha. But it wont grow past my bra strap, ever. So meh. Medium forever.

tea or coffee: lol both but I do drink an entire pot of coffee on the daily. I love some good tea tho.

bring a book character to life or go into a fictional world: Ya know there's a whole book series by cornelia Funke on why this is a bad idea. But also I'd go into a fictional world any day. Bye world! I'm going through the wardrobe. Hopefully in a less christian coded one than that reference. Something with dragons. I'd like to see a dragon. Even if it means a painful death. Worth it.

It had been a quiet evening. There was nothing to break the monotony of her work other than the occasional shriek or cry of a child looking for candy or some Halloween celebration taken to the streets. Instead, Avery found herself carefully laying out her materials that her source was kind enough to send her. How they managed to get these rare wand woods, she wasn’t sure, but she wasn’t complaining.

Then she heard the racket on the street.... What in Merlin’s name? She was hardly prepared for the absolute chaos out on the street; people running and screaming from hooded figures.

“Come in here!” She told the group of people standing immediately outside the shop as they would all be safer there. Once she had people inside she could work to secure the shop.

With the end of the war came a change of tone. Though everyone was relieved with the fall of the Dark Lord, some took it as a means to discriminate against those who showed any allegiance with him, even if they were reformed. As a result, the Ministry of Magic approached their favourite Golden Trio with a proposal that would see them married off to those who were on the other side.

Ron didn’t know how he felt about the proposal though he knew how his friends felt. Hermione was outraged that the Ministry thought that they could be used so easily as pawns to further their agenda whilst Harry seemed upset. He had just gotten back together with Ginny after all. Ron felt a mixture of things, but he knew he was part of the problem, his prejudice against Slytherins still as strong as they had been during their school days.

That’s why Ron had volunteered to be first. At least it would sate them for now. It could be a trial, to see if a union would truly change the tides and the court of public opinion. It wasn’t as though he had anything to lose, not with his relationship with Hermione burning out in a fabulous fashion. It just so happened they were better off as friends and Ron had no qualms against that.

Ron was dressed in his finest suit, one that Hermione had picked out and fussed over, ensuring that he looked good for his future wife. He wondered who it would be, his stomach churning at the thought that it could’ve been one of the bullies that terrorised Hermione during their years at Hogwarts. But when he walked into the room, he was pleasantly surprised.

Rhiannon Beaumont.

The girl had been in Percy’s year, a Slytherin that was ambitious as any, though hers had been directed to a cosmetic empire. It was admirable really. Ron didn’t know what had happened to her during the war, unaware of the years she had spent in St. Mungo’s recovering to get this far, but he was happy to see that she was still around. And Merlin. She was to be his wife.

“Hi,” he said nervously, offering her a hand. The words seemed to stop flowing after that, stomach swirling with nervousness. She was stunning, really. Even more so than she had been in Hogwarts. “I like your hair.”

FOLLOWER MILESTONE

As of today Persephone’s Parlour has reached 400 followers.

When I remade after that toxic breakup fiasco a few years ago I never could have imagined to find so many wonderful people who’d follow me when I’m blogging about my OCs, Fashion, Opera, Merlin and so on and so forth.

Some of you are friends going back all the way to the BSN (IE @knightofphoenix and @merilsell) others I’ve met on YT (IE @mloreley my fave LPer of all time) and one even dates back to my writing days on LJ (Hi @nikichidon). 

ALL of you are people I’m extremely proud to call my friends. ALL of you are incredibly patient with my multi-fandom blogging (Bless you @freifraufischer I’m still here for Regina, our queen!) ALL of you are incredibly kind, talented and loving people.

But none of this would have been possible without my friend @dandelion-warrior who not only was my rock and my protector in the difficult months and years after the breakup and who offered precious advice, hugs, love and support during that emotional roller coaster. It is thanks to her I was able to shed the abusive conditioning and create fan-ish stuff, esp. OCs, without wishing to please but because theirs are the stories I wish to tell. Without her, Desideria Hawke, Drusilla Trevelyan, Theresa Chiara Ryder and Olivia Rumaryn would not exist. Without her the Rhia ‘Verse would be so much emptier (Eluned Mahariel was created during that time and her role being given to one vacated by another OC who wasn’t mine and all but took over the ‘verse was a major step towards recovery) and important layers in the world building just wouldn’t exist. Myrna Tabris being the Hero of the Alienage rather than waiting for a shem to save the day for example. Tara Surana and Erlina being raised to the peerage is another. Eluned Mahariel marrying Queen Anora and thus becoming and elvhen Queen is yet another.

Also, a special shoutout must go to @imperiius my sweet Tumblr wife and the best friend a gal ever had.

And also a shoutout to the newest of the Parlour family @obvidalous. I’m delighted to be mutuals with you and can’t wait to gush about ME:A and our smuggler husband together!

All that said, I am just so thankful  and feel blessed that you guys are there with me. When I had an episode of depression after a pain attack I knew you guys would be there for me. There’s nothing I can ever do or say to repay all of your support, love for me and my OC daughters and staying by my side through thick and thin.

Today was rough (I’ll explain later in a separate post) but my Dash is such a comfort zone to me now like it never was before. I never have to deliver or perform, I can just be me, gushing about what or whom I love and you guys cheer me on with every Like, Reblog, tag and kind word.

As I can’t draw or write very well I don’t know if I can do a milestone giveaway but I might just to a story giveaway and promote a few mutuals who have been a lifeline of love and support.

I humbly want to offer thanks and if ever you need anything, even if it’s just a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, remember I have two of each available.

“The Lost Years of Merlin” Film Character Breakdowns

So the film adaptation of The Lost Years of Merlin is apparently going forward. We have character breakdowns, and I have...conflicted feelings about this whole thing.

Warning: some spoilers for a twenty-year-old book series below. 

For those who don’t know: The Lost Years of Merlin is a series of five books by T.A. Barron, chronicling the life of Merlin from ages 12-16, if I recall correctly. It has him travel to a magical island called Fincayra and go on various adventures that have little to nothing to do with Arthurian legend, but the setting is pretty creative and they at least reference Arthurian stuff a lot. It is not a perfect series, but I, having read it in middle/high school, have a soft spot for it.

(Admittedly, my feelings have been soured a bit by its sequel series, The Great Tree of Avalon. I’m actually FINALLY on its last book right now. It’s...frustrating, in a lot of ways, but I must credit Barron for his creativity with fantasy concepts. I’m actually jealous of some of the cool stuff that he does with Tamwyn’s subplot.)

So let’s go through these characters.

EMRYS (MALE LEAD 12-15). Caucasian. The boy who would become the legendary wizard Merlin. Emotionally erratic. Eccentric. Prone to wild mood swings. Brilliant. Sometimes, he is calm and controlled, thoughtful, with a hint of mad whimsy.

I am...a little worried about this description. In the books, Merlin was honestly mostly a moody teenager, albeit with a good heart and a tendency to wax poetic (because T.A. Barron clearly wants to be Tolkien). I’m a little worried that they’re going to go too far with the “quirky wizard” trope here, but yes, “controlled with a HINT of mad whimsy” could work.

RHIANNON (FEMALE LEAD 12-20): Open to any ethnicity. Seeks Emrys’ assistance in stopping a terrible blight which is now beginning to kill the forest she lives in.

My main thing here is with the age and ethnicity. Spoilers for the second book: Rhia is Merlin’s twin sister. Is she...not going to be in the movies? Then again, I vaguely recall that she might have been tanned in the book, so maybe they can keep that twist even if they cast a non-white actress? (But don’t make her twenty. And if they aren’t related, please at least resist the urge to make her Merlin’s love interest, because that would be weird.)

SHIM (MALE LEAD 20-40): Open to any ethnicity. A dwarf-sized giant, befriend Emrys.

All I have to say about this (aside from pointing out the typo) is that Shim is also in the GToA and he’s more annoying than I remember. I’m halfway through the last book and all that he’s contributed is bad comic relief. (And a few nice moments with Brionna, I guess. Brionna needs more moments where she isn’t annoying.)

RHITA GAWR (FEMALE LEAD 30-50): Open to any ethnicity. An evil spirit who wants to control Fincayra before moving on to Earth. Enemy to Emrys, the film’s villain.

Rhita Gawr...was not a woman in the books. (Or in Arthurian legend, though admittedly Barron’s version of Rhita Gawr is VERY In Name Only.) He was rather metrosexual, though. Also, Rhita Gawr didn’t really show up in the first book; he was just “the shadowy presence that Stangmar was working for.” 

Stangmar does not appear to be on this list. Which...eh. He’s not that interesting, but it seems like they should include him. He was the actual villain of the first book, and (spoiler) Merlin’s dad and all. 

Long story short: I am, at best, ambivalent about all this.

1. How does their relationship develop in tandem with the Vaults?  Are they a hindrance or do they bring them closer together?

Oh god, I get so mushy about this for so many reasons🥺 Rhia and Barnaby’s relationship works whether well in coordinance with the Vaults, neither is a hinderance to the other in any way, actually they more or less balance each other out. Where Rhia kind of has a more logical, rational approach to things (despite her being chaotic neutral), Barnaby is more stubborn about it, more bullheaded so he’s more apt to just say “fuck it” and run into the Vaults without a plan, only to be stopped by Rhia before he does something stupid. She loves Barnaby too much, so much to the point that if she lost him, she’d never be the same.

26. If they get married, who proposes to whom?  And how do they do it?

So here’s the thing. Rhia says she’d propose, but she’s really too much of a chicken shit for it. She’d cop out at the last minute after committing to the idea because she’s terrified of the idea of her asking. To which Rowan laughs at her for, saying “I told you you couldn’t!”

Barnaby is 100% the one to ask though, he’d try to elaborately plan it with a perfect date night, maybe going to like a little local carnival or something, only for those plans to go to shit because he’s either too scared or there’s never a “perfect moment” for it and for him to ultimately just wing it. Rhia loves it anyway, because she is 100% in love with this beautiful himbo.

32. Have they ever said anything hurtful to the other during an argument?  If so, how do they go about apologizing?

They’ve never- actually, no it’s happened. Once.

It was the week of the N.E.W.T.s in 7th year, and Rhia was beyond stressed out. Too many tests, not enough rest. Most of her time was spent in her private room studying where she couldn’t be bothered (perks of becoming Head Girl). She’d already taken three, and her lowest score was exceeds expectations. She hadn’t slept in Merlin knows how many hours and wasn’t in the mood for anything. So, after her fourth N.E.W.T., she was ready to just give up. Barnaby, being done with his N.E.W.T.s, was just trying to help Rhia lighten up a little by joking around while she was trying to study for her final exam, which was possibly the worst idea he’s ever had, but he meant no harm by it. Needless to say, Rhia wasn’t having any of his jokes, and she snapped.

Her exact words were: “Barnaby, you absolute, complete fucking dumbass!”, and she saw his facial expression drop from his usual bright, gleeful smile to a frown, and her heart dropped along with it. She’d hurt him. She didn’t mean to, but she hurt him. Barnaby left Rhia’s private room, not exactly too sure of himself or their relationship at that moment. He knew he’d fucked up, but he didn’t know how to fix it- yet. And Rhia knew she fucked up too. For a solid thirty minutes, Rhia stopped studying and just cried, and cried, and cried. She couldn’t believe she’d said that to Barnaby. Was she really that stressed that she’d taken it out on him? She felt so helpless about it. First, it was Rowan to see her red, puffy eyes when she’d entered Rhia’s room. Rowan tried to console her, to no avail. Then it was Ben who tried, and also failed.

The next day, Penny tried to console Rhia over lunch, as she still hadn’t spoken to Barnaby and honestly she didn’t think she’d have the nerve to even look at him. After Penny, it was Tonks, and even Tonks’ jokes and antics couldn’t make her feel better. The last person that day to try was Tulip, and she tried her damndest and still couldn’t make Rhia smile or laugh. Rhia cried again, and she wasn’t sure for how many hours. She’d barely eaten, the only thing on her stomach was a small sandwich, which half of it went to Penny anyway.

Day two of not talking to Barnaby: little did Rhia know, the guys had gotten together to help Barnaby recuperate, helping him with ideas to talk to his girlfriend. Talbott had actually consoled Rhia, albeit not successfully, she was surprised that Talbott genuinely cared behind all their playful competitive banter. Charlie was the last to try and console her, and when it didn’t work, he threatened to send an owl to Bill to come and console her.

The second night of not talking to Barnaby: around 9:30 that same night, Barnaby had mustered up the courage to talk to Rhia, who’d been crying yet again. He gave the password to the enchanted painting that kept the door to her private room hidden, and he lightly tapped on the door when it appeared. “Darling, I know I’m probably the last one you want to talk to...” . The deep, raspiness of Barnaby’s voice. It still gave her goosebumps and made her heart flutter. He’d always have that affect on her. Without saying a word, all she did was sit up in her bed, and after finding the courage, she finally opened the door, those beautiful green eyes meeting her deep amber orbs. There were no words exchanged between them, but Barnaby instinctively pulled Rhia into a bear hug, his giant frame towering over her petite one.

“I’m so sorry I said that, you know I didn’t mean any of it...”

“I know, darling, I know.”

Rhia still cried for two weeks after they made up, but Barnaby constantly assured her that he’s not hurt by it anymore and that he understands why she was so stressed out.

Ron was nervous, so damn nervous. His palms were sweating and he could literally feel his heart thudding in his chest like he was going to die. Merlin.

He couldn’t believe that Rhia was out on a date with him, nor that they were going to be married. He had decided to take her out, deciding that if they were going to be wed then they may as well get used to one another’s company. So, they went out and ate fish and chips on the beach, watching the waves crash in.

He had been thinking about this all night, kissing her. Rhiannon was so pretty, so beautiful. And not only that, but her mind was so inspiring. The two were talking, she again speaking about her businesses, so passionate. Ron could feel himself falling for her.

So he went for it. He reached for her face, cupping it as he pressed forward perhaps a little bit too fast, a little too needy.
