Some Outlast opinion thats gonna get me into some kind of controversy:

DISCLAIMER: Okay so, I might be wrong on some points here so please correct me if I am wrong.

I've seen a lot of people on here, who are either part of the fandom or someone on the sidelines, talking about how the game potentially makes mentally ill people be visualized as monsters. That is something I would have to disagree on, for various reasons:

· Many people in the Mount Massive Asylum were committed because they were mentally ill, whether it be they suffer from severe depression or because they are criminally insane. Now, if we stopped there and then I can understand why people would be upset about the game making it seem like all mental ill patients are monsters. However, thats not the case - thats not where it stops. The Murkoff Cooperation, as we all know, experiments on the patients, otherwise known as variants, using the Morphogenic Engine - a way to create a nanohazard demon from a German folklore. Obviously, this Engine messes with the patients heads, regardless of whether or not they just have depression or if they're someone like Eddie or Frank. So basically, long story short, the Engine fucks with their heads even more, thus creating monsters. The game is not saying that all mentally ill people are so fucked up that theyre violent or anything - the storyline literally shows how cooperations will go as far as taking the ill and torturing them, inevitably creating monsters, in order to create something powerful that they hope to control.

· Even if the Engine doesnt fuck with peoples head even further and doesnt make them violent or more violent then they already are, then there's still a reason as to why some of the patients are in fact violent towards Waylon/Miles; theyre criminally insane. You encounter patients who want to kill you and then others who are nonhostile, such as the silky guy and Father Martin. Even to an extent, the Twins.

· As for Chris Walker, I see people who straight up just say that the game/Red Barrels is pretty much making PTSD seem like some kind of violent disorder. Again, the Engine couldve potentially fucked up Chris Walkers head, furthering the effects of PTSD to create more of a violent form. Same goes with the body issues, the Engine most likely furthered it, which is why he practically sawed off his nose. Also, unlike many other patients who kill because they just want to or because they're straight up scared and dont know how to react, Chris is sort of like a fucked up Anti-Hero. The PTSD from the war effected him so much, especially with the addition of the Engine, that he acts as if he's a lone soldier on the battleground, trying to fight off his enemy, which is the Walrider, and also trying to attempt to save everyone else - a way to contain it. Unfortunately, the way he does that is ripping peoples heads off.

· Two main reasons why I believe the Engine is the thing that's making everyone more violent, is because the Engine fucked with the female patients heads so badly that they experienced phantom pregnancies and died, it even affected some female staff. Eddie Gluskin changed drastically after being exposed to the Engine in the beginning of the DLC - going from a man who is somewhat aware of his situation, to a man in a sick delusion to find a wife by mutilating men and marrying them before attempting to make them pregnant.

· The only person who I can think of who wasn't all that much changed by the Engine is Trager - he was fucked up in the head before as much as he is now, he just wants to play doctor more. And he looks like an overcooked, crisp piece of bacon. A scratchpost for a cat. I dont know if Manera was subjected to the Engine, persay so I can't give an opinion on that so please let me know.

All in all, the game itself isnt all about making the mentally ill all violent and shit - thats not the point at all. The Engine made them that way - it's legit part of the storyline. It's the Science that makes them crazy, not a game developer who was just like lets just make a horror game with crazy mental people. No, theres more story to it. A shit ton more to it then that.

AS FOR OUTLAST TWO

· To be honest, I'm not so sure about this one because I've legit only watched a gameplay of it once meanwhile I've played Outlast religiously so I COULD BE WRONG.

· Basically, the smoke engines in the distance that you encounter, or perhaps its actually a radio tower I forget, probably should look it up to be honest, are all run by Murkoff Cooperations. The smoke or the radio frequencies are literally getting into the members of Temple Gates heads, allowing them to get trapped in their minds sort of like what the Engine did.

· It's not the game trying to make religious people seem crazy or anything like that, its literally Murkoff fucking them up, much like the first game.

Again, I'm very sorry if I got some points wrong. Please let me know (kindly) before possibly kicking my teeth in.
