they've been married many moons, now. a feat he'd never imagined for himself, yet at the very same time he enjoyed the married life. he finds it fits him very snugly to have a woman in the wings, & he makes it a point to milk it of all that it’s worth. for his benefit, but she reaps the rewards of his selfishness. this valentines day he'd proposed a vacation. somewhere hot & sunny. to get away from work, for a while. usually richard's idea of a vacation, is going to visit his family in germany for a month or so. though this time, he had seemingly went all out. their hotel room was luxury, & he'd poured every needed cent into making this a comfortable experience. his wife lying in their king sized bed, still sleeping when he comes out from his shower. his hand securing it around his waist as he steps out & turns his head over to regard her, his other elbow bent. leaning forth once he's secured the fabric to grab his cigarettes, & light up. throwing them & lighter (quietly) to the night stand.
Tumblr media
he hasn't had time to get any big roses, yet. but there is a bottle of champagne chilling, & orange juice on the table. a round one, with a white cloth on it. the room something you'd see in a travel magazine. & a really nice one, at that. the wide balcony covered by a thin shade, & a blackout curtain. though they'd forgotten to shut that the night before. & richard reaches up to draw it back, with his torso stretching. head turning when she begins to stir. "ah!" he smiles. bright & cheery. not at all typical, for richard. pausing to take a drag from his cigarette. "you're up." he comments. turning around, with the filter hanging from his lips. hand on his hip, as water rivulets wriggle & dry on the contours of his muscles. little does she know, that he has room service on the way for breakfast. "happy valentines day. Alles Gute zum Valentinstag."

Week 2 Blog Essay: A Hard Day's Night. By Chloe Ziegler
A Hard Day’s Night is a film about a day in the life of the Beatles. Filmed in 1964 and directed by Richard Lester, this film features musical pieces as well as acting parts. It isn’t an ordinary film though, as the Beatles run around London preparing for their television performance, they bring their humor and immaturity along with them. Each of the Beatles, John Lennon, Ringo Star, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney feature as themselves going about hordes of fans, performing on tv, and partying.
Tumblr media
It is a significant film in the eyes of song lovers and movie critics alike because it reveals much about the lives of a famous band and what they go through. While it seems fun and exciting it also shows how hectic and crazy they are. The film is similar to that of Bohemian Rhapsody in the way that it focuses on telling a story of famous musicians who shaped the music from their time. However, A Hard Day’s Night is more lighthearted and serves a purpose of entertain.
Many critics praised the production of this film by the Beatles because of many aspects, including the humor, acting, and twists and turns. However, one critic, Roger Ebert, comments “when a film is strikingly original, its influence shapes so many others that you sometimes can't see the newness in the first one.” The film was quite original at the time it came out because people weren’t used to famous people featuring music of their own, especially from a band like the Beatles. Their popularity also helped the influence of the film itself. Many people were intrigued by what goes on in their life and the humor intertwined made it that much better in the eyes of fans.
Back in 1964 the world was making much progress both economically and socially. We began avidly exploring space and the Olympics were held in Tokyo. The Beatles were HUGE at this time as well. They appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show which was a huge deal, accommodating more than 73 million households over the television. They performed a few of their songs including a famous hit of theirs called “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” So when the film came out, many were eager to watch it. In an interview with John Lennon he mentions that their fame was 10 times more emphasized than what we see in the film. The fans, the craziness, all of it.
youtube
In light of what was happening in the world at the time, the Beatles provided an outlet for a new style of music for musicians all around. People found freedom to express themselves in Rock and Roll, which was very different from music that had been put out before the Beatles came about.
The film appears in black and white, but also features a lot of music. From them performing to their music playing in the background. They not only promoted their music through this film but also their reputation. One of the characters we learn about is Paul McCartney’s grandfather who first appears quiet and reserved, but as the movie progresses he gets himself and even Ringo at one point into trouble.
Several of their songs featured in the film many of which however came from their album “A Hard Day’s Night.” The band famously performed one of their songs called “I Should’ve Known Better” which appeared on the television show also the year this film came out.
One of the scenes that stood out to me was in the beginning on the train to London. The Beatles meet a man who disapproves of them playing music and bantering, so they leave the train car and continue to run back and forth by the window making faces and scenes to be funny. Their style in this movie is unique which is part of why it draws the attention of many.
Tumblr media
The film caught a lot of attention in its first few weeks of premiering. When the film came out it made more than 1.6 million dollars, while it only cost them about $560,000 in their production budget. The film did very well as the Beatles were quite the popular band at the time attracting viewers and fans from all around the world. The film was mainly filmed to present what the Beatles were becoming as they continued to grow and gain fame.
A Hard Day’s Night appears more as an unconventional film especially during the time in which it came out. They featured a musical aspect to it which wasn’t seen very often. Their ability to include their own music greatly influenced others to do the same down the road but it wasn’t very common. The comedy part was more on the conventional side, however, the comedy was sarcastic and witty on the Beatles part. It also went about a single day in their life, whereas other films would go about several days if not more. Many films about artists nowadays like to start from the beginning of their career and continue into present day but not the Beatles which is what makes it a hit.

Minor Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spoiler:
Since Richard Schiff is the US Secretary of State in Black Panther: Wakanda and the character is not named at any point in the film (or in the credits, or on IMDb), I am choosing to believe that he's playing Toby Ziegler.

Obviously, no matter how many movies I add to the list, I know dozens of more films will be announced and released throughout the year. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is one of them. I didn’t know a thing about this flick, but it received the always interesting awards buzz, which turned it into a mandatory viewing before Christmas comes around. I went in knowing only one thing: this is Chadwick Boseman’s (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War) last appearance after he passed away a few months ago. I really didn’t know what to expect from this Netflix’s Oscar-bait, but I was afraid that Boseman’s nomination chances were high only due to what happened in real-life instead of him truly deserving that recognition… Well, I can safely and confidently write that Boseman delivers his career-best interpretation, and it wouldn’t be unfair for him to get tons of awards posthumously. From an impeccable accent to his mind-blowing emotional range, passing through long monologues and uncut takes effortlessly, Boseman is the strong glue that holds everything in place. What seems, at first, a hangout movie (narrative without a clear central plot) turns into a character-study. Levee wants to follow his dreams, do what he does best in his own conditions and with his personal interpretation of music and soul. Boseman incorporates this character seamlessly, delivering a memorable performance that I hope will be remembered as a worthy Oscar winner if this situation ends up becoming true. Even though Boseman is the actor that shines brighter, every single one is absolutely outstanding. Viola Davis shares the main spotlight with him by representing the (real-life) iconic blues singer, Ma Rainey. To be completely honest, I didn’t know who this singer was nor how she impacted soul music. Ruben Santiago-Hudson first feature-film sc...

(him and will are super similar damn?) like, it's not with just anyone. never with certain people. usually it's like, an arrangement he will make - knowing he doesn't need power over a specific person. also he has ummm - he likes wearing pretty lingerie lmfao.
fighting makes his dick hard lmfao. he loves getting into fights but after he's like, raring to go. whether he lost or won, sadomasochist don't care. he's bleeding, and he's black & blue. be a dear & don't make him blue somewhere else, too!

Week 4 Blog Post, Carrie - Chloe Ziegler
The movie Carrie was originally based on a book written by Steven King and then made into a film directed by Brian De Palma. The film stars a young girl in high school who is bullied for getting her menstrual cycle. She is not only bullied by her classmates, but also scolded by her mother. She goes on to discover she has telekinetic abilities. While she continues to be bullied an event happens at the prom that makes her realize her full potential of her powers and the movie ends in an unsuspecting way. The movie came out in 1976 and made over 25.8 million dollars, while it only cost them about 1.8 million dollars. The movie was considered a big success in the film industry as a supernatural horror film.
Carrie was significantly loved by horror movie critics all around. The movie became special in the film industry specifically with its ending. In an interview with Steven King, he mentions how although he wasn’t a part of the filming, Brian De Palma did an excellent job in producing the movie in all its glory leaving viewers with suspense and surprise. A popular movie critic, Roger Ebert, calls the horror film “a real one, in which the horror grows out of the characters themselves.” https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/carrie-1976
The way it is filmed gives the viewers strong feelings towards the characters of the film that continue to grow and grow as the movie goes on until essentially… they erupt. An important scene happens at the prom where we feel so emotionally attached to Carrie as she receives prom Queen and King with her date Tommy before everything goes wrong and she is humiliated. This photo shows that quite well.
Tumblr media
Some of the big events that occurred in 1976 included the beginning of Steve Jobs' career with Apple and the unveiling of NASA’s first space shuttle, the Enterprise. The beginning of Apple was huge for not only Steve Jobs but also the world. It grew very quickly over the next few years and became one of the biggest companies in the world. The introduction of the space shuttle was a huge accomplishment for space exploration as President Richard Nixon said “it would revolutionize transportation into near space.” These events reflect the innovation of technology in the world at this time. Just as this movie sort of became a revolutionizing piece in the horror film industry.
While the movie still has an older feel to it regarding the music and storytelling aspects, it doesn’t necessarily follow the typical horror movie stereotypes. It has intimate scenes where we feel empathy towards Carrie and her PE teacher as well. However, the ending is where it takes a turn. It is sad in the sense that Carrie is constantly made fun of and even at home her mother continues to scold her. So it makes us as the viewers feel more inclined to empathize towards Carrie. For example, in this clip Carrie tries to tell her mom about her powers, but sadly she accuses her of being a witch or possessed by Satan. She even calls her "Witch. Got Satan's Power." and Carrie responds "It has nothing to do with Satan, Mama. It's me. Me. If I concentrate hard enough, I can move things." She definitely struggles a lot throughout the movie with her mother and having someone to understand her and this clip shows that pretty well.

The film was very successful in its adaptation from the Novel. It received two Academy award nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, as well as becoming regarded as one of the best horror films to ever be made. The movie is often compared to the suspense of Jaws, another successful film for its production and ending. The culture defined in the movie shows elements of individualism vs. collectivism where Carrie is made to feel like she’s all alone in the world, while her classmates constantly make fun of her. There are also parts of emotional effectiveness vs. feeling neutral. This is shown through Carrie specifically where her powers act off of her feelings, but when she is in school she is shy and reserved. Lastly I noticed actions based on internal and external feelings. In the movie Carrie acts on internal feelings, but people like Christine (her bully) act off of external feelings and appearances. The movie fits into typical high school stereotypes like going to the prom and driving around their dates. However, I think these stereotypes are a bit different nowadays in terms of how people are asked out and going on dates. It also has lots of elements of God and blood tied through out the movie and her mother makes biblical references all throughout the movie, "I'm here on the Lord's work, Mrs. Snell; spreading the gospel of God's salvation through Christ's blood!"
I believe this movie fits into the unconventional category specifically in horror films. It doesn’t follow the typical storyline, nor does it end like most movies. Throughout the movie there are scenes where we think everything is happy and exciting but then they take a turn for the worst, just like the prom scene. It really does bring emotions to the viewer like disbelief, fear, and sadness. The movie is also very understandable to many people mainly because it appeals to the female audience and even those who feel rejected like Carrie. The movie attracts a wide audience which I believe attribute to its filming success.

Okay so my last post just reminded me of ANOTHER 911 ls thing. So Rob Lowe is in the show, right? and rob lowe was also in the west wing. and in an episode of lone star it’s revealed that Paul’s sister has MS, aka multiple sclerosis. and for those of you unaware, Jed Bartlet, the president in the west wing ALSO HAS MS! I noticed that while watching the episode, and thought it was a funny coincidence and that maybe the ghost of the west wing was taunting me. Kinda funny right? a little “haha” moment, right? WRONG!! THE GHOST OF THE WEST WING WAS MOST DEFINITELY TAUNTING ME, AND HERE’S WHY: after the episode ended, i got a commercial for The Good Doctor, and in said commercial was the actor Richard Schiff. AKA THE SAME ACTOR WHO PLAYED TOBY ZIEGLER IN THE WEST WING!!!! and that not all! After seeing that, I went upstairs to tell my mom of these events, who informed me that Gwyn, Owen’s (rob lowe’s character) ex wife is played by Lisa Edelstein who played none other than Laurie in The West Wing, the call girl Sam (again, rob lowe’s character) accidentally sleeps with. WHAT. THE. FUCK. i am being followed by the west wing. it’s haunting me. i can’t escape. i’m not necessarily upset about it, but it’s creeping me out.
