PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THE HELL OUT OF THIS!! Need 96k signatures by Feb 2nd!
I personally amNOTtrying to shut down SeaWorld, We’re confident they can run a park that is both entertaining and educational without exploiting sentient, highly intelligent marine animals.
THIS IS IMPORTANT! These animals deserve to live out their existence without being forced to perform tricks for the sake of entertainment! [x]
EDIT: petition did not reach 100k, has been taken down.

Save Dolphins
I am guilty of going to ocean parks. I won't lie that I haven't seen a dolphin or any marine mammal show. As a Biology student, I am embarrassed that it took me a long time to realize that I was fooled by the message that these shows impart to us.
Tumblr media
Last Friday, I went to a film viewing and open forum with Ric O'Barry about the advocacy campaign in saving the dolphins. This issue isn't new to me, but watching The Cove opened my eyes to what is really happening behind the great courage in founding this campaign. Here's the synopsis of the movie taken from their website (http://thecovemovie.com):
"Academy Award® Winner for Best Documentary of 2009, THE COVE follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery, adding up to an unforgettable story that has inspired audiences worldwide to action."
Lucky that I found a full-length vid on youtube so I can share it too! (feeling tumblr famous haha) I was so moved upon watching the movie. I hope blogging this can also encourage more people especially young adults like me who goes 24/7 on their laptops. You don't need to give money to show your support! Take the pledge by not buying tickets to aquariums or parks that have marine mammals in captivity.
"Dolphins do not belong in captivity. They need the boundless sea and their family to thrive."

私のダッシュボードで朝夕水族館に捕らわれの身のイルカの写真が見える。これは本当にひどいね。放れない動物は苦しむ!どうして人間はこれが分かりませんか。懲り懲りしている。

Hey guys, remember how yesterday an investor sold over half a billion dollars in SeaWorld shares? Did that look like someone jumping off a sinking ship to anyone? Well, Blackstone, which OWNS SeaWorld, has sold even more shares!

Apparently SeaWorld is so concerned with ANY bad press, they’ve enlisted the FAA for help. And what better way to help than participating in a TMZ poll! Yes, the FAA has provided a link asking patrons to share, and vote in favor of SeaWorld. And they’re quick to b point out that “[t]he following artists have succumbed to pressure from fanatical extremists -
Trisha Yearwood Willie Nelsonxt Cheap Trick Heart Barenaked Ladies Martina McBride .38 Special”
Succumbed. Fanatical extremists. Or as I know them, animal welfare activists. Captive killer whales have reduced life expectancies, many having only lived into their 20s; in the wild, female orcas have an average lifespan of 50 years and can live up to 80–90 years. The average lifespan for males in the wild is 30 years, but some live up to 50–60 years. [x] Turns out Blackfish is a documentary so skewed and misinformed that SeaWorld said the film was misleading and innacurate, but declined to give their side of the story when given the chance. Sounds about right, doesn’t it?
Well, if it’s participation in a TMZ poll they want, I’ll happily oblige. But you can bet I’m not checking the “I love it” slot.
For the record, SeaWorld does have noteworthy attractions and education programs. I don’t want the parks to shut down; I want the orca and dolphin shows shut down. I’ve seen Blackfish and The Cove, I cannot morally support this. Those animals need to be rehabilitated and placed in a sea pen before releasing them to the wild. They are sentient beings and should not be kept enslaved for our amusement. And if that doesn't quite do it for you, check out the Hampton's property for Blackstone Group's CEO in comparison to the orca tanks in SeaWorld Orlando.

Aerial view of SeaWorld Orlando’s orca tanks and Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman’s seaside estate in the Hampton’s. The length of his house is 63.77 feet longer than the length of the orca tanks. Schwarzman’s home sits on 9.9 acres and is 20,000 square feet. He also owns a 20,000 square foot, 37-room home in Manhattan, along with several other homes around the world.
There are seven orcas sharing the tanks at SeaWorld Orlando. Stephen Schwarzman is 5’6”. The orcas are kept at SW Florida are:
-Tilikum: 22 feet long
-Skyla: 18.8 feet long
-Katina: 17 feet long
-Trua: 12 feet
-Nalani: 7 feet long
-Makaio: 7 feet long
-Malia: 6 feet long
In the wild these animals would spend their lives with a family swimming up to 100 miles day. At SeaWorld they are forced to perform and swim in circles in exchange for their unnatural meal of dead fish.
These orcas are stuck and forced to live within confines smaller than that of the man who owns them. Not only can Stephen Schwarzman leave his property, which dwarfs the orca tanks at SeaWorld, but in a twist of sick irony he also has a view of the ocean that the orcas were stolen from.
Stephen Schwarzman, SeaWorld and any and all SeaWorld supporters should be ashamed of themselves. Every dollar spent at SeaWorld goes into the pocket of Stephen Schwarzman so he can continue to live a lavish and self-indulgent lifestyle while the animals he exploits suffer.

Now, I don’t claim that this guy made his fortune solely on SeaWorld profits, but this still feels wrong.

It’s appalling that there are more than 8k people who think whales should be kept in those tiny pools. Maybe they haven’t seen Blackfish. Or The Cove
