This is a gift exchange for the Benjaminutes/Tales From Riftdale/Poll For Initiative fandoms. Both fic and art are welcome. This should be for everyone, so SFW works only. Also, please keep requests limited to within the Benjaminutes Cinematic Universe as that is the focus of this exchange.

How will it work?

Sign ups are open from Saturday, December 2nd to the end of Sunday, December 3rd. This year there is an explicit option to participate via the BenjaBois Discord server only, in the case that you are in there but not on Tumblr. Vice versa works too.

Matches will be sent out by Monday, December 4th. You must confirm your acceptance.

The drop date is Saturday, December 16th If it looks like you will not be able to finish by the final deadline, please contact me (via email) by this date or earlier. This way a pinch hitter will have time to make something for your recipient.

The final deadline and Reveal Day is Monday, January 1st. Post your finished work to Tumblr and/or the BenjaBois Discord fanart channel with @(your recipient), and the tag "kwannukastmas2023" if sharing to Tumblr. All gifts shared to the tag will be reblogged here.

owo made-up fic title: burn it down (any fandom!!)

send me a made-up fic title and i'll tell you what i would write to go with it

..... so i know i said i'd pick a fandom but actually i'm gonna do three of the four fandoms i mentioned in the tags:

tales from riftdale:

tbh my initial thought was "clair goes apeshit." the Eye goes too far -- they've started taking people off the streets who don't come back, the people he trusts are gone, they're hot on his tail. very heavily leaning into "clair used to be an agent" theory, clair basically goes then fuck it and leaks every secret the Eye has been keeping, live on air, daring them to come get him. it's an idea that might work better as an audio, tbh, bcus the Crystal Clear ending is clair screaming that it's over now, they're both stuck up shit creek, and then it's just.... silence. a long, terrifying silence. and then...

"attention, citizens of riftdale. the threat is contained. you are now SAFE."

poll for initiative:

100%, without a doubt, no other option: this is the story of how lys destroys the world. the prophecy turns its head as one of its worst options, everything everyone was afraid of come true. probably spurned on by cassandra's death, tbh, bcus i'm a sappy bitch, and probably foxbud's. it's lys tearing down the very fabric of reality even before any of the other people clamoring to get their hands on it can, not looking for what comes with the rebirth of everything but seeking only destruction. it's lys at her worst. it's every horrible thing people assumed about her eating away at the good in her heart, cities in flames, the Shifting Tempest as a sign of ruin as lys uses it to run. there's nothing left for her in this world and if the gods are so convinced she'll end the world, then she'll spit in their faces when she does.

in the end, lys falls to her knees as the world burns down around her, sobbing. bedlam is the only one left, and even he has no words for her.

the locked tomb:

tbh i'm only part way through htn so i don't have As much of an idea for this, but i think it'd be an interesting like, "this is the hard part before we patch things up" part of a modern au -- this is the end of gtn parallel, where harrow and gideon thought they could start to work things out, that they're on more even footing, and then shit hits the fan in a way neither of them could predict. people around them are in pain, and they should (only) have each other, but they don't know how yet. and when gideon tries to have harrow's back it ends up causing more problems than it solves, and the fic ends with them worse off than they started, not only their progress in flames but any inclination to look back and re-contextualize their previous interactions smoldering. and they'll fix it, one day, maybe, but right now it's up in flames

gonna be super real. i'm just talking a bunch about my special interests

i truly. do not understand the fandom thing where people force au's to work when the media does not need it or do well with it

and maybe this is a very specific kind of fandom (and tbh not all medias need a "fandom" but that's a different thing) bcus admittedly i've seen more people talking about this phenomenon than it happening, but. idk. i've been thinking a lot about tales from riftdale and poll for initiative and like, i genuinely just have so much fun engaging with the text?? like i'll do a tfr au here or there (most of which are admittedly not that different than canon. the paranormal investigator au is probably the furthest off but even then, it kinda just switches the main villain from figurative ghosts to literal ghosts) but i like looking at the 13 episodes we've got and thinking about them, picking them apart and trying to figure out where it's going next

and poll for initiative i just. i can't do it. they belong so fully to their world that if i took them out it would be weird! lys de'forrest, the dread pirate phoenix, cannot so easily be transferred around. and i say this not in a bad way but in absolute awe of the world being built in pfi: bedlam and how well the pieces fit together. like are au's fun? yeah. am i going to do them at the expense of the characters and their journeys? no

pls know that i am 100% not mad nor is this directed at anyone, i'm just genuinely amused fjkadlsfjdsa. anyway. i can't help but laugh when i'm like, looking to talk about my writing bcus now that i've pretty solidly stopped writing for taz, the things i write are like

fics for riftdale, a podcast with a consistent audience of like, 12 people (it's good tho) (check out tales from riftdale)

fics for poll for initiative, an actual play series with a consistent audience of four people and a handful of people who are interested but currently behind (also very good) (highly recommend poll for initiative)

also atm most of my pfi fics are angst. working on that. also the two i've published are both Huge spoilers

fics for homestuck, a media which, while it does have a fandom, is a somewhat quieter fandom, esp considering that the main thing i'm writing (and only thing i'm currently publishing) is Highly specific to me (and hasn't updated since june) (working on it, working on it)

original works with characters no one knows about bcus the last time i seriously wrote prose for this universe with another person was, at this point, probably almost a decade ago, and with someone i have not spoken to in five years, so i've been sitting in my corner designing characters, lore, and ideas alone and changing them on whatever whim i happen to have

which, as you can imagine, can be a hard bunch to "sell" when i want to talk about my writing jfdklasfdkl
