Cutie Reviews: DokiDoki Sept 19

If all goes well I’ll be playing the brand new Animal Crossing tomorrow x3 besides that I’ve been addicted to a game that came out about a year or so ago, called My Time at Portia. If you like games like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory I’d recommend checking it out, it’s really fun!

This months theme: Back in Business

“As summer comes to an end, it’s time to return to our daily routine and that’s why this month is all about being “Back in Business”. The items in this month’s crate are sure to make your transition back to work, school, or whatever comes your way as smooth and kawaii as possible!“

Suteki Crate & Photo Prize

As you will come to see, this months box is heavily catered around the various Sanrio series. For this month we have a selection of practical, every-day items for foods, stationery, and your room :3 I love the Little Twin Stars fan, but the herb kit looks adorable too, and the light on top.

The photo prize featured a lovely, high quality Pompompurin wallet.

Rilakkuma Pass Case

Our first item is this adorable Rilakkuma, wearing an equally cute pair of bear glasses. Besides the pouch on the inside, there is also a card holder on the back, both featuring soft, light blue fabric. The chain on its head is also connected to a string, so you can clip it on something and just pull it up without having to un-clip it; a very nice touch if you ask me.

The pouch is very soft and plushy, it would also work as just cute room decor. But if you do choose to use it, it would make an adorable accessory too! I’d definitely wear it with pants or a belt, or put it on my purse.

It gives me summer vibes and if I was still in school, I think it would have made me sad to be reminded of school :P this would have been cute to have in summer, but its probably more useful after it.

Sumikko Gurashi Roll Pen Case

As of late these have become pretty popular (these or the pop-up ones), so it’s kind of exciting to have one to call my own. This is an efficient and handy, compact way to carry stationery or crafting items you might want to take with you somewhere.

This one features a simple, but cute Sumikko Gurashi design.

What I like about this is that there are 4 individual sections for the items, so if you’re someone who likes to organize items you’re not sacrificing that. It also has a flap on top to add some additional support for the items during travel. 

I can definitely make use of this to help me store some of the stationery items I get from all of these boxes. I’ll probably end up doing that.

Sweets Pen

I got excited about this for multiple reasons; look at it, its pink :D not only that, but if there’s a chance a pen has pink ink I immediately want to test it out!

These pens were based on a few various snack brands you might find one bringing to work or school with them; Natchan (juice), Apollo Strawberry Chocolate (strawberry and chocolate cone-shaped chocolates), or Koala March (chocolate filled cookies shaped like koala with images on them).

You can probably tell that I got the Apollo one right? I would have been happy with any of them- but I ♥ Apollo Strawberry Chocolate so I’m very happy I got this one. I also love its mascots because they remind me of Mametchi, one of my favorite Tamagotchi.

Also, I think its scented. I could be wrong, but when I smell the area where I used the pen I get like... a sweet strawberrish scent. I also have a pink-ink pink pen I’ve been obsessed with for a while now, but with this it has some serious competition. I love it!

Sumikko Gurashi Bottle

Our next item is especially useful if you get thirsty while out of the home, another item that also brings to mind summer when I look at it. There was 2 possible designs, both featuring Summiko Gurashi; a blue one with a pastel print of the various characters, logo, and what looks like stars or hearts. Or the pink one I got, featuring one large image of the group with ice cream, surrounded by ice cream scoops.

As you can see, this also have a fun metallic clip, so you can attach it to various things for easier travel. It also has a mouth piece to avoid clumsy accidents (not always though <_< I’m pretty clumsy).

I really like this, it’s super-cute and fun.

Sanrio Letter Set

Our final item is a cute little way to keep in touch with friends or family during those busy school or work days :3 a Sanrio themed letter set. It includes 12 pieces of paper, 6 envelopes, and 1 sticker sheet. There was a few variations we could receive with this box, besides the one I got featuring retro characters, there is also a cute Twin Star one.

As much as I think these are really cute, I usually don’t use them. It’s not that I don’t want to, I just have no reason, and I don’t want to waste this cute paper. 

♥ Cutie Ranking ♥

Content - 5 out of 5. The items are all practical and very cute; and as a lovely bonus, I got everything pink; minus the Rilakkuma. Coincidence or not, I am very happy!

Theme: 4.5 out of 5. It’s very basic and a common theme we get in these types of boxes around this time of year. But it’s so much fun to compare them, so I don’t mind. My only little nitpick is that a few items actually gave me some summery vibes, so I wish they were released in summer.

Total Rank: 10 out of 10 Cuties, would recommend!

♥ Cutie Scale ♥

1. Sweets Pen - I can’t help but be biased with this one, it’s absolutely perfect ♥ I would recommend, if I ever find the other 2 I’ll probably buy them. 

2. Bottle - I think it’s very cute and sweet looking, I love the detailed ice cream scoops around it especially~

3. Roll Pen Case - One on hand I like its simplistic coloring and design, but on the other hand, I’m not that into it. It just feels kind of plain in comparison to everything else. I can’t wait to use it though. 

4. Letter Set - I like its soft pastel colors. Realistically speaking, I feel like this is the only item I might not use in the box. 

5. Rilakkuma Pass Case - It’s really soft and cute, and I love the bear sunglasses.

For the much-deprived comic loving subculture events are rare, celebrations scarce, and options limited, so when you have an entire event centred around the theme it was going to be one grand party, and we so wanted to be part of it. Bambi and I were super stoked, we had never been to Comic Con. So like true noobs, we had our clothing ready, camera packed, and our coin purse handy, and off we went to be one little part of this big technicolor hurrah.

Together we had loads of fun however, there were moments when I was seriously underwhelmed We enjoyed checking out the Nintendo Switch, trying out new and old games, cosplay, and looking at kawaii souvenirs. We did not shop much primarily because it was too expensive. Though it was nice to catch sight of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli ware, and Rilakkuma goodies. I am told Studio Ghibli in Japan too is expensive, so I suppose post import duty, conference space fees, and keeping margins in mind, no wonder the items were priced so. I wish that was not case but it is what it is.

There were the usual suspects Marvel heros, Pokemons, Mario and his friends, and Skylanders. We are now friends with a Dutch girl who does a stellar Harley Quinn cosplay. Every time we meet her (and there have been a few instances) Bambi worries, its her state, chains and blood, but she is so very sweet to him and always insists on getting a picture taken with him and he reluctantly complies. I have an amusing series of an awkward Bambi standing next to the glorious beauty.

What would have made me a more satisfied comic con goer? Well, for starters, there was no attention to detail, the organisation edges were not put together, and for such a visual experience this could have been done way better. I would have liked backdrops for photo-ops. The stalls to be arranged with thought. I wish there were corners to have a moment, maybe sit, maybe lounge, perhaps browse. There was more sell than exhibits, so that would have been better too. And, while we are at it more of those massage stations would have been nice too, those massages on stools they were damn good.

Will I go next year? It depends, first, on whether Bambi would still like to go, his comments were extremely funny, and he is my gaming buddy, and second, if I get to see Carice van Houten, who I was informed would have been there this year but, unfortunately we did not get to see her. So if those two items fall into place, sure, why not ….
