Nichols was a 29-year-old man who died on January 10 of his injuries, 3 days after being viciously beaten by five Memphis cops following a traffic stop.

Tortuguita was a 26-year-old Atlanta Forest defender who was shot and killed by cops last week.

i think that aaron bushnell deserves respect for his life and how he chose to end it. in this country no one with principled revolutionary political ideals is seen as mentally well. i don't doubt his serious commitment and deep thought before taking this action at all. at the same time we don't need people to self immolate. or at least i feel deeply sad that this occured the same way i feel deep sadness at the self immolation recently in atlanta. i don't know what to say except that i mourn the suffering and loss of life of a young person who i believe could have continued to do good work in the world in relationship with his friends and comrades. but absolutely i respect him. it feels like for me the hardest thing to accept emotionally in this kind of political work is all the loss and suffering of brave strong brilliant people. i feel the same for stop cop city activists who may face decades in prison. yes i respect them and love them and believe in them and trust that they are making the right decisions for their lives and for the cause but i also get so so so sad for all those who have died and all those sitting in jail. what does it mean when you feel your best course of action is your own public death? or when you accept the inevitability of federal prison or death by cop?

I don't usually trust Atlanta Journal Constitution on this since they are funded by the Atlanta Police Foundation, but more news has come out about Tortuguita's murder. This article is the first to report on the findings of the second autopsy.

Their family ordered an independent autopsy. They found that at the time of Tortuguita's death, Tortuguita was sitting down with their hands up. Just as the police had ordered them. Tort was murdered by the Atlanta Police.

ACAB. Protect the forest. Save the trees. Stop Cop City.

Last week cops shot and killed a 26-year- old forest defender named Manuel Teran aka Tortuguita.

If you don't know Manuel 'Tortuguita' Paez Teran was a indigenous environmental activist that was murdered by the police last year defending Weelaunee forest. The aftermath has caused deforestation on a large scale in order to make a dystopian facility for training police that's due to be completed this December. We will be celebrating their life and activism at this event. Everyone's invited!
