so it's my birthday today!!! 😎 i'm 23 years old, and i've had this blog for almost 3 years now, so i thought now is as good a time as any to celebrate!

because i thought it would be fun, i've decided to curate a list of some of my favorite blorbos in their respective pairings and put them into this poll! after a week, i will make a special gifset for the ships that make it into the top 5 spots!

this star wars set by @padme-amidala is probably the best thing i have ever seen. the amount of blends and transitions and coloring is just mind blowing! seriously a piece of art work. still can't get over that erika made this set for me <3

becca's (@yenvengerberg) gifs always leave me speechless but this yen and tissaia set just has a special place in my heart..the quote, the colors, the blending, the transitions are all just perfection and capture the relationship so well 🥹

this alicent set by @saws2004 lives in my mind rent free. i absolutely ADORE the way the quote flows through the layout, so well done. the blending and the use of b&w is just superb. honestly one of my fav sets ever i could just stare at it all day

i LOVE the typography in this anidala set by @cal-kestis...nik is just a photoshop wizard and her creativity always blows me away. the blue and orange go so well together and nik's ability to combine multiple fonts is perfection.

this yennefer set by @ughmerlin is so so pretty!! the colors are so soft and the song matches yennefer perfectly. i also love the transition from b&w to color chefs kiss. & the font choice is just lovely.

umm hello??? this shang chi set by @simoneashley is gorgeous. the amount of time this must have taken was so worth it bc the colors are so so vibrant. i always love a good rainbow set esp when the coloring is this amazing!!

this house of the dragon set by @lady-arryn is so beautiful. the coloring and sharpening is just so soft and ethereal. and this particular blue/orange combo is wonderful. i am particularly obsessed with the blending of second gif..its just SO pretty.

Hi. I just want your opinion on something ... do you think it's fair?cool?ok?(I don't know which word is right for this) for a fanfic writer to demand a certain thing to publish his fic ?. Like "I will post the next part after 5k likes and 500 comments" I have been in fandoms for a very long time and was on different forums, I have seen this maybe not in this fandom. But it always made made uncomfortable. It didn't feel right to me, I write too but I never demanded this. What do you think ?

Hello you fairy light of magic! 

Oof. Okay, I’m going to approach this two ways- as a reader first. Before I wrote fic, I would see it and roll my eyes because it feels an awful lot like blackmail, right? Holding fics hostage for attention or whatever. Not a good look. 

As an author, I see it and still roll my eyes but I understand it more now. It’s not something I would do or something I think is the way to go but let’s be very blunt about this: fic writers get nothing for their time but fandom engagement. Which is fine, it’s a hobby, it’s supposed to be fun! It can, though, wear an author down to both feeling like they get treated like a commodity instead of a person and then feeling terrible when they hear nothing but crickets when they show up with what people were asking for. 

We all know I’m about to get overly verbose again so: 

Comments? Are our lifeblood. If you think a comment with an emoji isn’t enough, it is. Unintelligible screaming with caps lock? Totally enough. Are you too shy to comment? Don’t be (if it’s something you can overcome for the moment)! The author just sucked up all their anxiety and insecurity and posted something to possibly be criticized and mock for the masses to see, they want to know what you think. They want feedback, they want to flail with people who also love their ship. 

Fandoms only flourish with engagement. Dead fandoms have one thing in common: no one is participating. Authors want to write but if no one is interacting with/reblogging their fic, they’re not going to bother to post it publicly. Gifmakers want reblogs but are exhausted by people stealing gifsets and no one reblogging them. Fanartists want to draw but they keep seeing their art stolen and no one is reblogging their art. 

(Likes don’t help exposure, only reblogs get stuff seen, and the ratio of likes to reblogs lately is...painful)

There’s a connection, right? As an author yourself, I know you know what it feels like to see the ratio of hits to comments or likes vs reblogs. Without the readers participating in commenting and sharing our fics, people need to make it worth it to themselves to keep going. Rude comments? They suck. 99% of readers are wonderful and we love them but the ones that rip into you? Tend to stick around the most in your brain. If the only people willing to tell you what they think of your fic is the one who gets to yell hate at you anonymously, why would you keep doing it? 

We also can’t ignore the truth of it all: popular fics don’t have to be good. There are authors who are so so so so so shockingly talented and getting 1/3rd of the comments of the most popular authors. And let’s be real about how that can affect everything- people DO pick fics to read by how many kudos/comments it has. If more people commented on a fic they thought was well written and shared it with their friends, that super talented author might write more. Encouragement means everything to fic authors. 

It gets fics written. 

It gets fics finished. 

It takes maybe a minute to make a comment and drastically change that author’s feelings about a story or help push them to finish a chapter. Writing, gifmaking, drawing, it all takes hours of work on our ends (and it usually takes up a lot of our free time), but it takes seconds to minutes to consume it. 

So, yeah, I don’t like the hostage fic scenario and I would never act that way and I don’t agree with it, I think it’s pretty cringe but I won’t lie and say I don’t see why someone would do it.

I'm only saying this b/c you recently had a poll on what content followers like/don't like you to post but your time canary posts make me want to unfollow. I hate it with such passion, it squicks me out (from how it's been handled this season but mostly because it makes me hate Rip because the whole idea of it is saying his scenes with sara are romantic when he like just had his wife murdered & did really selfish/messed up things to try to get her back). Only arrowverse ship that makes me cringe

I totally respect if you want to unfollow for any reason, including me posting that content. You gotta keep your dash as a healthy space for you, Anon. And you’re right that I do like to know these things, hence why I did that poll.

I will say that when I tag something with a ship name, I don’t always mean it romantically. I tag it that way in the even that it could have a romantic lean to it, partly in case people blacklist a ship tag, and partly so I can find it again if I’m searching my own blog for a specific post. That’s the case with all the Time Canary stuff I’ve ever posted. “Could be romantic, doesn’t have to be”. Same with about half the coldwave? Almost all of the gifsets I’ve tagged “dccoldwave” aren’t inherently romantic at all, and could very easily be read by someone as close friendship. Even with coldflash I do this sometimes, tagging something as CF even if it’s just them in a screenshot together. 

I actually started tagging this way because I had people who followed me but blacklisted CF and I wanted to help keep content they didn’t want to see off their dash, but then eventually it just became a thing I did. I’ll tag Sara + Len gifsets as CC even if I don’t ship it romantically too.

So… idk if that helps at all for your predicament. My thinking (hope?) is that in explaining this, it might squick you less if it comes up from my blog because you’ll know I’m not trying to force a romantic lean to it inherently, even if I’m saying it can be read that way. But maybe just having the ship name there and knowing I’m thinking of it even partially that way is enough to squick you, idk.

I also won’t tell you not to be squicked, obviously, though I’ll admit I’m surprised a bit by your reasoning. Rip’s far from the only person to have lost a loved one, even recently. He’s had close to two years since his wife’s death now, and he’s definitely far from the only character who’s done selfish things to save a loved one, in the CW DCTV universe. I’ll agree his reasons for the trip in S1 were selfish, but… so are like 2/3rds of Barry Allen’s motives for doing things haha, so I’ve come to terms with that part of Rip’s character personally (though i’ll admit it took a while for me to come around on him, but I’m there now).

But you gotta do you ton of Time Canary, but it might come up from time to time, especially if they get a lot of screentime together (impossible to predict). Now that the ship exists in my head, it’ll likely be tagged if I feel there’s a possible romantic interpretation to what I post, and its up to you if it’s healthier for you to blacklist or unfollow if that happens.
