First attempt at drafting a pattern with my measurements. Summer shorts!

Now I am mostly caught up. Here is a collage I finished today. Playing around with textures and lines. It's subtle and weird and not entirely my style? If I have one? But I like it for the most part.

Day 1: Plans. I got a notebook for ideas.
Okay, so I need new pillowcases, or at least one new pillowcase. My main pillowcase (not pictured) is in tatters. Literally. So I thought, Hey, I could make something. But of course I don't want to make a plain old pillowcase. Borrr-rring.
So I drew some plans and even did math. I used to be good at math. Really. But it's been a while. It's crazy how much planning goes into something as simple as a pillowcase. I haven't started the actual sewing yet (next up: figuring out how to thread Bernie), but I already know that if I do one thing in the wrong order, it won't work. Hmmm.
My room smells like 1964.

How to de-scandalize a dress: Step 1 Rip out old hem (which held lots of hidden excess fabric). Step 2 Rehem with a much smaller seam allowance. Step 3 Sew dimes into the bottom of the skirt to keep it down in the wind. Step 4 Iced coffee and donuts in the park.

I made my first wearable thing
Yes. It’s true. I now have a tank top that I made all by myself. Of course, the first time I wore it proved to be a little… disastrous. Low neckline and good morning, sir. Thanks for the coffee. But I altered it today. Because you know, I can (sort of) do that now.
I learned many things.
Like how to make pockets.
And how to sew curved hems:
And how to add in neck binding.
I also learned that sewing to music and sunlight is clutch. I had the house to myself this weekend, so I set up a little sewing studio in the sun room.
And here’s the finished product, wrinkled ’cause I already wore it.
There’s something funny about that pocket, but ah, well. Summer, can you hear me?
Onward.

Took a trip to the thread store before work, so I can begin the next sewing project this weekend: a tank top. Sneak peak at the colors.

this was inspired by a dream in which I attended the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and they served the audience vegan cookies on a Tori Amos as Our Lady of Guadalupe platter.
I can't believe I spent two hours making a Tori Amos collage, but there ya go. A lapsed Catholic's collage of a lapsed Christian for Lent.

Really falling behind here but, whatever, I guess.
This is my second collage for RL. Collaging makes my desk a mess; the poetry notes are buried somewhere under there.
Have been doing a little bit better on the getting out of the house front.

Well the sewing class I had planned to take the last two Tuesdays was canceled since no one else signed up... but I am pleased to report that I completed my first solo project today: a pillowcase!
The process was much more involved that I could have imagined. First there was the planning and the sketching. (I decided to not look online for help since I am stubborn and wanted to do it all on my own—at least this one time.) Then I drew the pattern I created on tracing paper, cut it out, pinned it to the fabric, cut that out, then lots more pinning and ironing and sewing and ripping out stitches and re-sewing. I think I could have walked to IKEA and back in the time it took to produce this single pillow case... but hey, they don't have this pattern, do they? Yay, geometry... and yay, vacation days.

So, I haven't written a poem yet - that's because I DL'd my entire 5+ year history of tweets, since I kind of use it as a launch pad for ideas (blathering into the ether) but then end up doing nothing with the little tidbits. It's like my mess of a desk covered with paper, but in binary.
Here's a screenshot of the excel spreadsheet I'm working on, sifting through and deleting the nonsense.
Hopefully something will come of this soon. Also, I do not recommend this task to anyone but masochists - it put me in a really weird headspace to re-live the past of events of 5+ years.

Although I did wind a bobbin over the weekend (hear audio), I have encountered some technical difficulties when it comes to the actual stitching. Reinforcements are coming on Saturday. Stay tuned.

For solidarity (and perpetual distraction), I joined Masha making my own collage from the nytimes. This is sky. My actual project is music visualization, and I completed some work this weekend hooking up a beat detector to it. The next steps are to organize the code a bit better and then to add pitch syncing with the beat detection to improve syncing the score.
