lil backstory: his family owns cynet cybernetics, a v longstanding company and one of the major providers of androids ( aka ai robots / humanoids that run around doin ur house chores 4 u... yep... )!! they were one of the first in astra 50y ago which means hansol was born in astra!! he's Never been to ansan and honestly kinda looks down on it ( pun not intended ) so we know where this is goin 🥶

anw he's born middle child between big bro n lil sis n was unsurprisingly neglected : )) he was alm exclusively raised by cynet androids yikers so altho his physical needs were tended 2 as a kid ( 2 the point of overindulgence honestly ), his emotional needs is that year 1 science textbook sittin in the deep corner beggin 2 b read

ends up LOSING bc it turns out they were cheating too but !! he only knows they're cheating bc he's cheating so can u imagine how that argument is goin 2 go down : )) so yeah cynet is so super impt 2 his family n his dad was absolutely livid to find out that hansol gambled his share away n chalked it up 2 his 'delinquent activities' being so bad 2 the point where it's not only detrimental 2 himself but 2 his family!!! anw 2 regain that cynet share that hansol lost, his dad reports him to the authorities for cheating ( dad obv found out ab his mods bc whose credit card do u think he's usin to install em ) n pulls some strings to get him kicked tf out of astra

so yeah now he's here!! it's been 3 months since n he's still trying to prove himself, this time 2 prove 2 his dad that he's a better businessman than his dad will ever be n the first step is 2 get himself back on astra!! of interest one of his current ventures is to gentrify the betting ring @ the nightrunners races n j make it more organised / official but understandably the nightrunners want their own representative runnin these bets so yeah this means hansol is tryna officially become a nightrunner

personality wise i'd say he's v cunning, likes to think he's more like his dad than his brother is bc he can be p cutthroat and he knows a good deal when he sees one ( n honestly it's true it's prob why his dad loathes him extra ) n he takes a lot of pride in it!! ( yeah he's got a capital D for daddy issues )

also has a bit of a one-track mind so it's like if it's related 2 wtv business venture he's focused on then he'll care 2 the point of obsession n micromanaging but if it's not a priority then he will literally pretend it doesn't exist!! what this means espc socially is if ur someone who's eg a nightrunner he'll be v present 2 u but if ur eg working @ revel he literally could not give less of a shit u prob won't even recognise him that's how absent he is

decides early on, somewhere between their power being shut off & eating shitty synth food 3x a day, that being poor is not for her, and so she studies like hell. eventually gets into med school 🎉🎉, but by this point, she's old enough and experienced enough class inequality to be over the glittry promise of astra.

now, she's just trying to do what she can to stay above the poverty line. it's really just a constant game of reverse limbo, not helped much by her bi-weekly binge drinking sessions that end with her blacked out in the worst of places.

currently employed at apollo med as an unimpressed + underpaid receptionist, but she's there to see the grisly scenes. occasionally picks up extra shifts at world diner for extra $$, because her manager was rly nice and let her study when she was working there as a high-schooler.

seolrae’s parents were extremely successful engineers who specialized in smart home technology. the family was on the upper echelon of society which afforded them privileges many others were never gifted.

make no mistake, seolrae is originally from ansan, but given her parents high ranking positions within circle technologies, she was whisked away to astra in 2042 at the age of 13.

astra was hyped up to her in ways that made it seem like some sort of fairytale land, so of course she was excited to go! but she was also really confused considering how many protestors lined the astra airstrip when they were boarding their starship. there was a lot of anger surrounding their move, but she was far too young to understand why.

life in astra was like a dream; seolrae’s parents excelled even further at their work and she began adjusting to everyday life in the land of excess.

it didn’t take long for things to begin feeling stagnant, though. astra was abundant with perfection, but didn’t possess much emotion. (i feel like astra is the kinda place where you’ll have different experiences based on your personality, and for seolrae, it was a bit stepford wives-y? everything was just a little too perfect to the point where it felt rather unnerving to her.)

her biggest fascination ended up being holodramas as they were teeming with feelings and intrigue; things she was really beginning to miss.

this set off her foray into acting, being “officially” active from the years of 2044 to 2052. she took on a new persona, min jolie so that she could differentiate between her work and personal life.

after struggling with her mental state on the set of a holofilm in 2049, she tried some high quality inhibitors at the suggestion of a co-star, becoming somewhat dependent on them to get by. she’d been informed it was ‘pretty common’ in astra.

she took a couple of years off, mostly because she was burning herself out and feeling overworked. she’d manage to become astra’s sweetheart almost overnight, and the pressure of performing in such a seemingly faultless sea of apathy was getting to her.

she was meant to have her big return to the screen in 2052, filming for a propaganda-laced horror holoseries about a monster invading astra and trying to unravel their peaceful lives. it felt like a mirror was being held up to her face by the very world itself. she felt extremely suspicious of the crew, who all looked at her as if she were an outsider; as if she wasn’t the girl who’d come there a decade before.

seolrae had a huge outburst on the set, revealing not only her own drug use, but everyone’s. she went on a tirade about how empty the people of astra were, how they lived with their heads in the sand. it became the lead story on every broadcast, painting her as a paranoid enemy of astra.

even her parents disowned her over the scandal, acting as if they never knew her. all she could really do was try to escape, which she successfully did after appealing to a starship pilot with her predicament.

she’s been back in ansan about six months and is going by seolrae again, distancing herself from any trace of jolie. she lives life looking over her shoulder, expecting her past to come knocking on her door at any moment. she doesn’t know what agents of astra are really capable of, so she keeps her former identity and occupation a mystery. if anyone asks? she’s never even set foot in astra.

seolrae is highly secretive and is often suspicious of people over simple things like trying to make conversation. she doesn’t want to be cold, but she feels like it’s imperative to her survival not to let people in. she’s terrified of anyone finding out who she was in astra, as she holds a deep-seated fear of the place. she tries to appear ambivalent on the topic though, so as not to let on to the fact that she’s been there.

can be a little selfish, but it’s also something she’s trying to unlearn as more and more people become important to her.

obsessed with holofilms and holodramas and bringing them up is a fantastic way to coax a little bit of vulnerability out of her. despite them being tied to some bad memories, she still holds them pretty close to her heart. if you unknowingly present her any of the stuff she’s been in, she’ll make up some excuse about having seen it before and thinking it was terrible. “seriously, don’t even waste your time!”

she has some cybernetic prowess thanks to living under her parents’ care for so long, not that she particularly enjoys thinking about them. she does enjoy personally tweaking the gadgets littered throughout the sharehouse she lives in, as it brings about a calming sensation.

born in '97, and has resided in ansan all of her 26 years of life. uses she/they/he in that order regarding pronouns, and is comfortable with masc and fem terms, though she usually regards herself using she/they the most

grew up in quite a large family, living overtop a restaurant they owned and worked in. she's the oldest sibling and had been working as a waitress for the majority of her time through school, fixing the machines at the restaurant and her parent's car and learning most of how things worked by messing around with whatever she could find at home and in the scrapyards

the scrapyards is where she meets her (now) ex-girlfriend that sort of shaped the trajectory of where she finds herself these days. her ex's older brother owned a garage that was the Official front for what she used as a third party cybertech installation in the back, usually found by word of mouth and for people looking for Cheap and Quick cybertech

yeona had never really had the means for getting any cybertech, so it was mostly things she regarded from far away. money was for food and restaurant expenses and not much else, and getting in a position to work on tech seemed a little too far out of reach with her responsibility to her family, so this seemed.. So Easy. too easy, when her girlfriend was just as interested in installing and fixing cybertech, too

so she starts working inbetween the restaurant and the garage, and starts working her way up in installations. they provide a lower cost amount for anything anyone brings in (no questions asked where it's from) or what they can order through her ex's older brother, but working at the garage is finally something that makes yeona realize there's More out there then what she thought there was

and she gets Good at it. despite no formal training, her ex teaches her everything she knows. her mother's a doctor and half of the supplies they have are borrowed when they won't be missed from the hospital, and they work well together. yeona's making enough money that she starts working on her own pieces, and it leads to the one she had been dreaming about for years: an entire strip of metal formed and fitted to her spine

aesthetics, yes, and she also works out a form of flexibility within the model and an ability to hook up the piece with the parts of her brain that associate with pain receptors--- the thing that always bothered her most about fixing tech was that sometimes she couldn't just run diagnostics herself, and with this, she could, as long as she made a connection to the person she was working on

after a long time of saving and working and learning, she trusts her ex to help her install the piece. she does half of it, and from her own experience, also works on it herself, determined to get it right. it's a long installation and it's her first piece of tech, and they did it together

it works, too. she can show it off, the silver that follows down the length of her spine and curves around her ribs, and it gives her more credibility when it comes to more complicated installations

everything goes a little wrong when her ex asks her to install a piece she found in the scrapyard. they're convinced it can't be fixed, and it seems wrong, and she just can't fight the feeling that it shouldn't be installed. but her lack of support leads into a series of disagreements they can't seem to get back from, and they break up

yeona loses all sense of herself. her place of work, her confidence in performing cybertech repairs, her support system and someone very important to her. she ends up moving out of their shared place into one of her own at black stone apartments, having not contacted her family much aside from sending money and receiving updates from their younger sister

while her younger sister had always dreamed of going to astra, yeona quickly lost sight of it when she thought she had found her place in ansan, and lost sight of the close relationship they once had. she discovers her sister is working at the astra air strip 4 now to be as close as she can get, and yeona finds work at gugus to keep saving money to send her and her family (and taking the extra little trinkets home from the old world to mess with)

she refuses to do any extensive cybertech installations like she used to, and sticks to repairing mechanical objects and tune ups to smaller pieces of tech. you can often find her at the underground, patching up fighters for free and occasionally betting on matches

similarly, you can find her wherever the nightrunners seem to pop up. she's found doing much of the same, repairing odd and ends, whether it be machine or person, and at the scrapyards, picking up anything she finds of value

aimless, she finds herself lost and without the purpose she thought she had. she had discarded too much of herself in the process of the breakup (a little over a year since it happened) and can barely look at the tech installed along her back without being reminded of it all (and the five years they spent together)

prone to distraction from the past and without a true goal in mind, she stays mostly stuck in place, working on finding her own meaning and the confidence in herself that she misses to chase after the things she loves, instead helping others in the meantime in place of her own dreams

spontaneous and eager for things to get them out of her head, you can find her everywhere and nowhere all at once. maybe one day she'll realize that everything was always hers, even if she's not in the same places with the same people, it's herself that was always there along the way, and that was all that really mattered

plot ideas!

anyone who frequents gugus! she's an appraiser there but she would love it if you were always bringing in things for her to add to the collection (or maybe sneak home)

you always seem to meet each other at the underground. whether a fighter (she's always fixing your tech at the side of the ring) a better (she's always swearing she'll win this next time) or you've noticed she's always around fixing things, she may turn you down for anything more than a tune up if you ask

you had your cybertech fixed or done by her back when she worked at the garage and ask her for a fix up but she (at first) seems to avoid you altogether due to the reminders it brings. still, at heart, she wishes to do what she can for this world, and ultimately agrees to help

nightrunners! let them fix whatever you need. probably goes under an alias and wears a mask of some sort when she's there just for the added protection, but she's reliable when it comes to quick tune ups and knows exactly what she's doing. you've seen each other around quite a bit and she's gotten used to coming around and seeing if you need any help

those at the scrapyard! even though she's making a good amount of money, she still finds herself going back to look for parts like she used to. she says it's a guilty pleasure but she's always loved it there for everything she might find and is determined to reclaim it for herself. a friendly face or a familiar one you trust to tell you if what you've dug out is worth the trip, yeona is more than happy to help

flings but she never intends on them going anywhere, and might be inclined to get themself out of there before he thinks it's too late (fem/nb leaning)

friends she's known since childhood who frequented her family's restaurant and they always got extra dessert, ones she lost contact with after her breakup and she kind of isolated herself from everything in her old life and she's slowly coming back, stumbling into each other at an old place they used to frequent, bringing you back to meet their family and remembering all of the nights you sat on the roof together and dreamed about astra and all of the stars beyond

those who live nearby in the black stone apartments, she tries her best not to be too noisy but sometimes she just forgets the time and she's still banging away at her latest prototype.. if you live nearby she probably never has any food or sugar to lend you but she Does have candles if the lights go out and One additional floatie for when the water gets too high (it's first come first serve, sorry, but she'll tie you to her's if they need to)

born and raised in ansan and has never been anywhere else, to her dismay

just turned 27 last month, has been a part time pianist at revel for around 8 months now, starting a little after her fiance's disappearance.

on that note, she was engaged last year. no one rly saw her coming ? like, literally, she was a nobody before. it was rly the engagement that catapulted her into ansan's upper class scene, where she worked her way up and became known as jeong haeran! self taught pianist! aspiring museum curator! future loving wife (shudders)!

what they don't know, and what she intends for them to never find out, is that she's the daughter of jeong minah, a convicted murderer.

on paper, there's nothing wrong with this. if she were a more optimistic person, she would hope that people would be able to look beyond her past n just see her as she presents herself. but she's not lol.

all of it went down during the dawn of her early adulthood and so, as u would expect, fucked severely w her sense of identity. then life decided to throw it into another blender during the first and only time she goes to visit her mother, where her mother tells her, i did it for us.

most details are unknown. when it all happened, she was shielded from the details, and she has Not had any oustanding urges to revisit the whole situation, thank u. the first thing she did w her fiance's money is pay the enforcers to lock away anything that could trace her back to that past.

but the Daughter Syndrome is very very very very very hard to shake off. no matter where she goes, what name she uses, how she dresses, she is still Her Mother's Daughter. and every time her mother writes her from prison, haeran tramples over every boundary she has tried to set in a rush to read it and (despite how much she wants to despise her) hear how her mother is doing.

so anyway her identity is currently ? ? ? ? ! ! ! not doing so hot. and brother , the gender of it all

presents masc and goes by gwisin / sin (he / him) around the nightrunner circle. has a voicebox mod that lets her sound more masc and dresses as formlessly as possible. as far as everyone is concerned, it's she/they when it's "haeran" and he/him when it's "sin." its a fluid thing to her, more concerned abt the expression than identity (since paradoxically her identity is heavily defined by how she thinks ppl perceive her). it's all about trying to be so far away from how she typically appears to others, that no one would recognize her anymore

her first involvement with the nightrunners was watching races when she was a teen. after her mother was convicted and she officially became "independent," inheriting what little money their family had, the first thing she did was buy a bike and start racing her #problems away

i'd say her most active years were about 4 years ago? around 25 yrs old, she realized she was never going to get out of here if she didn't get herself out -- and where tf could she go where her name couldn't follow her?

astra seemed like the only logical solution. so she put down the nightrunner mask, sold her bike, prettied up, and went into the business of scamming ppl into believing her new bougie identity

she was good about it for a few months. she found a boyfriend, tho completely unattracted to him. grew bored, started sneaking out to watch races again. moved in w the boyfriend. grew more bored and went back to the place she sold her bike. it was long gone by then of course, but the owner took pity on her and pointed her to a mechanic who helped her build one from scratch.

then the happy couple got engaged, which loops us back to the start

her fiance went missing almost a year ago. no one knows what happened; the popular story is that he flew off to astra, but no one's heard from him since. did haeran have smth to do with it ... ? idk ...

tldr: she spends her days conning her place into upper society and then relieving the frustrations of that whole affair w her bike. she IS going to make it to astra someday though, mark her words.

my goals for her: for her to actually, finally move on from her past OR embrace it and reconcile w her mother. for her to find bouts where she feels like "herself." to less nefarious abt it all (possibly unrealistic)

TLDR

backstory is ur usual ansan born, raised & still stuck here kinda deal. it's not all bad, because she did grow up on the nicer side of the airstrip, but it doesn't mean she's satisfied with this life. there's gotta be something more, something out there meant for her, right?

but she doesn't know what that something is, aimless in that sense. restless, with no reason for it. she's latched onto the idea that astra will be the place for her, the place with all the answers, so she's put her name in the lottery every year & dreams of it, her wes anderson new york fantasy

there's a disconnect between what she thinks of her ansan experience & the reality of it, her dissatisfaction colouring everything a shade darker than it really is. all things considered, she had a fairly calm childhood & a cushy job now, but it doesn't stop yewon from complaining about it! she's been in fairly close proximity to astra & that better life that she can't help but compare it to everything that she doesn't have, not noticing all the things she does

& her job! can we say astra / corpo sellout... yes we can! went from secretary straight out of high school & slogged her way to personal assistant for some fancy rich astran because the company promised that employees who perform well might get promoted to astra. she handles all their ansan business matters & kinda wants to d word from being on call 24/7 but she also gets to stay at their la mariposa apartment for housesitting / keeping purposes

she says she hates her boss & hopes they get eaten by karma... only after she gets to astra, pls. screw the astrans, until she gets to go !

jokes on her though, her boss gambled away some trivial assets on hand... which were all of their ansan businesses & her job... so she's got a new boss she's never met & yikes, he's in town! 😱

anyway she's fully willing to do anything for her boss even if it's shady because she's 1) just a dumb assistant & 2) really wants this promotion to work out! how far is she willing to go so she gets her dream of going to astra? we're gonna find out!

secret family backstory unlocked! daughter of an nightrunner known as an ansan legend for the damage he caused when he went cyberpsycho defending his crew ( insp by david from cyberpunk edgerunners! ), her dad's last job netted her & her mum enough eddies to live on the clean/good life… but she still lost her dad as a child & it's partly why she wants to get out of ansan & also why she looks down on that side of the city even though technically what she has is owed to it. yewon keeps it quiet, her dad known more for the chipware he had on than his name, & it's the only thing she doesn't complain about. super unlikely that muses would know this ic, but it does inform a lot of her actions!

misc fun facts: all her mods are vanity mods & a made up ver of google / chatgpt ... no protection u could beat her up! also has an ashley too doll ( black mirror inspo ) probably outdated / a relic of the times but she still bops to the songs hey yea whoa-ho!!

personality wise, she's ur cynical uncle's gen z stereotype. expects too much, complains about what she has, doesn't have a backbone to speak of & does whatever is easiest at the moment for her until something easier comes along. thinks she's better & above all of this. & on the flipside, she's more than willing to work & wait for it, whatever it may be; she romanticises everyone's life but her own, loves helping people but for the wrong reasons because it gives her a boost of self-esteem. makes reckless impulsive decisions, doesn't really know what she wants but she's demanding anyway, kind of all over the place but somehow comes in clutch thanks to her caffeine shots. she's trying! not her best, but she swears the trying counts!

OPENING DATE ANNOUNCEMENT

remnantsfm will be officially opening for intros & interactions on thursday, july 6 @ 12pm est. acceptances will be posted & the blogroll will open then, and everyone will be able to post intros and open starters under #rmnt:intro and #rmnt:starter respectively. but with that said, we want "opening day" to really be more of an "opening period," and want to encourage everyone to check in at different times to cover our variety of timezones! until then, we've also released our first task zero HERE. you can read through the post for more details, but essentially, it is an optional and open-ended task, so members (and future members) will be able to participate in it at any point after acceptance or not at all. thank you once again for everyone's continued support in the rp, we're so excited to be able to open! if you have any questions, send them our way!
