Sylvania Roadsight Pro Dash Cam review: Good video, easy to use
Sylvania Roadsight Pro Dash Cam review: Good video, easy to use
Sylvania is relatively new to the dash cam game, but the $140 Roadsight Pro ($140 on Amazon) is a pretty good place to start. Then again, I was predisposed upon installation to like it—it’s one of the very few systems to feature an optional, removable rear camera ($50 on AmazonRemove non-product link). More on that later. Most people will be more interested in the stylish looks and very good…

elsewhere on the internet: India RAIOT round-up
I stumbled upon Raiot because of their article “Workers’ Playtime: A Definitive Guide to Proletarian TikTok” via a similar article on social media videos among factory workers in China from Chuang. I’ve included a few of the linked TikTok videos below.

There’s so much to read and watch, all with an always critical and informed, sometimes academic, sometimes activist, and sometimes snarky take on culture, politics and cultural politics in India.
Imagining India Without Prisons
Sexual violence against Dalit women has often been legally sanctioned. One example is the Breast Tax, enforced in Kerala in the 19th century, that required Dalit women pay taxes to be allowed to cover their breasts. Modesty was a privilege reserved for upper caste women, while Dalit women were criminalized for it. Christina Dhanaraj writes how stereotypes such as “immoral” and “sexually loose” continue to be associated with Dalit women.
There’s a lot of great pieces to read on Kashmir.
Fact-finding Tourism
A second set of these missionaries is “pained by the situation in Kashmir” and urges “their fellow countrymen to share the pain of Kashmiris”, who are their “own people”. Again, the presumption is that Indians should care about Kashmiris only because they are their own people; if Kashmiris were, say, Kenyans, or, God-forbid, Pakistanis, then they were easy meat and legitimate targets. Only two sentiments of affinity expressed by Indians vis-à-vis Kashmir are acceptable—guilt and humanism. Indians can either support our right to self-determination, and oppose the violation of our other human rights, because they feel guilty for being citizens of a country that oppresses us, or they can express solidarity on the more general principles of humanity.
Tulips and other Indian visual manias in Kashmir
While travelling to Kashmir valley, one comes across a plethora of slogans, signs and graffiti marking the journey with signposts of nationalism. “We are there for your safety”; “Kashmir is the crown of India”; “Sleep peacefully at your homes, Indian Army is Guarding the Frontiers”; “Kashmir to Kanyakumari, India is one”; “Awam aur jawan, aman hai muqam” (people and soldiers, peace is the destination) and of course, “Welcome to Paradise on Earth”; dot the landscape in congruity of its spectacular beauty.
Kashmir at the Limits of Postcolonial Nationalism
So I offer that to you as a challenge. Is there a possibility for us to be able to develop a political imaginary outside of the thrall of empire because, as far as I’m concerned, our suspicion of the flag and other national symbols like that is well founded. Symbols like these have historically always been used to mobilize majority populations in the service of elite interests. But figure out ways, persuasive ways, in which to counter them.
There are videos to watch

And there’s delightfully snarky responses to official propaganda
Welcome to Meghalaya Abode of Potholes
After receiving the recent accolade of “Festival capital of Europe” – Meghalaya gets its first participatory festival of BAD ROADS. Under the Event Manager government of Dr. Mukul Sangma anything and everything is a game for festival – Cherry Blossom, Monolith, Potato, Oranges, Beer, Wine, Water, Slow Motion Water Falls, Slow Food, Fast Food, Indigenous Bad Food, Chilly Chicken, Tourist Photography, Marriage Video etc. etc.,
Meghalaya has had festivals celebrating anything which event managers can conjure. Inspired by the prevailing festive atmosphere Kong Agnes Kharshiing of CSWO initiated two week long (no budget) Bad Roads Festival of Meghalaya. To participate you simply have to send the photo of your favourite back breaking bad road or no road... What follows is just a sample of the various crowdsourced (tourist) roadsights around Meghalaya. So come and join the fun.
Lastly, I love their illustrated calendar series on Shillong: on the move, street economy, celebrities.
