Someone called Tracy won the musical clip competition this morning. Take it away Barbra Streisand, it's your Birthday today.

Blossom upon blossom on the apple tree. I'm peering through my condensation covered window. Two young Rooks are building their first nest high above the apple trees. The ground is littered with all the twigs that fell during construction. The main Rookery is the other side of the house. I wish them luck.

Shiny metropolis part II. Town seems oddly quiet these days. Did the rapture take place again? Or did the mother ship finally find these missing people? Perhaps an unexpected portal?

Can't help but think of South Park and Cartman's alien probe. Such irreverence ... surely I'm going to hell. Best add marshmallows to today's shopping list ...

There's a post in the depths of my blog about how Frederick was useless in the movie and basically standing there and tanking damage.

But I found in my old Blogspot blog that I can no longer access, a series of posts I was doing about the differences between the scene in the movie and the script (using the "Script to Screen" special feature) and apparently this was in the script:

"Frederick LEVITATES Rookery high through the air and SMASHES him back into the side of his truck. Rookery slides to the ground."

The crimes I would have committed to see this happen are truly abhorrent.

Happy Tree Tuesday!

Trees are homes for all kinds of birds, and this illustration shows a heronry, also known as a heron rookery. Heronries are large nesting sites for dozens of herons. This forest in particular was estimated to host between 200 to 400 nesting pairs of grey herons (Ardea cinerea) at the time of the photograph!

The Rooks are busy. Twigs galore strewn across the driveway as they build and repair their nests. They watch as the cats are fed, eyeing me and engaging with me from less and less distance.

Fierce little sods. They argue over everything. I watch them as much as they watch me. If a pair are mating, apparently the others are obliged to fly over and noisily harrass the couple from branches surrounding the nest. If a youngster has misbehaved, they're forced to the ground, the youngster then rolls on its back and the adults push and pull it around. Any available food is a free for all.

All that said, theirs is a tight knit community. They all know each other. Complicated conversations continue all day and all night, constant calling from nest to nest.

They know me, know my face. On occasion, one of them has been at risk from a cat and the noise has become so much that I've gone out to them and seen the cat off.

I help them, they help me. Best neighbours I've ever had ... even if they do keep crapping all over my car ...
