Anthony Salvatore Casso nicknamed "Gaspipe", was an American mobster and underboss of the Lucchese crime family. During his career in organized crime, he was regarded as a "homicidal maniac" in the Italian-American Mafia. Casso is suspected of having committed dozens of murders, and had confessed to involvement in between 15 and 36 murders. Government witness Anthony Accetturo, the former caporegime of The Jersey Crew, once said of Casso, "all he wanted to do is kill, kill, get what you can, even if you didn't earn it". In interviews, and on the witness stand, Casso confessed involvement in the murders of Frank DeCicco, Roy DeMeo, and Vladimir Reznikov. Casso also admitted to several attempts to murder Gambino family boss John Gotti. Following his arrest in 1993, Casso became one of the highest-ranking members of the Mafia to turn informant. After taking a plea agreement, he was placed in the witness protection program, however, in 1998, it was rescinded and Casso was dropped from the program after several infractions. Later that year, a federal judge sentenced him to 455 years in prison for racketeering, extortion, and murder. We’ve all heard of the buddy system in the military right? You and a friend can join together and the government ensures that you both attend boot camp together and get stationed together. Ever hear of the buddy system in the mafia? Joseph Testa and Anthony Senter (commonly referred to as the Gemini twins) might be the only case ever. By the age of 13 they were already best friends and inseparable. They wandered in and out of jail and through countless street fights and stolen cars before they were finally brought in by Gambino soldier Roy Demeo. Realizing their potential, Demeo made them members of his crew and molded them into effective killers. The crew's MO was to first lure the intended victim inside the little apartment behind the Gemini Lounge on Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie, which was the crew’s main hangout. The victim would be shot in the head — and in quick succession, they were “turbanned” (a towel was wrapped around the head) and stabbed once through the heart. Both efforts were attempts to minimize blood flow. The crew would then chop the body up, package the pieces, and toss the pieces in city dumpsters. The authors of Murder Machine documented 75 Murder Machine murder victims, while the FBI suspects the crew committed between 100 and 125 slayings. Testa and Senter would later turn on Demeo (under orders from the Gambino family) and murder Roy. They were given releases from the Gambino Family and eventually were made into the Lucchese family, the continued to do hits for Gaspipe Casso until both received life sentences in 1989. Senter continues to serve his sentence at the United States Penitentiary (USP), Allenwood, Pennsylvania.
