Another thing I’m sure has been long established but just in case anyone missed it.
From the Ride the Cyclone musical,
Jane Doe’s lion monologue/catchphrase when she is introduced, is her explaining “what really freaks me out”- as in telling Constance what she didn’t want to hear anyway.
But there’s more to it, if we look at the lion monologue:
“When a lioness has children, she stops making love to the lion. The lion gets jealous. Sometimes so jealous he eats the children. You would think this would upset the lioness - far from it. They make love again like the children never existed. I find that idea terrifying.”
In reality, Jane’s biggest fear isn’t the way lions live—
The lion and lioness are parents, making them mother and father.
It’s bringing the idea that when Jane died as a child- her parents didn’t mourn her. No one claimed the body so no one misses her.
It’s the idea that while she rots and perishes- her parents are going to have another child, or another daughter and replace her.
We see this later proven in the Ballad of Jane Doe when she sings; “And I'm askin', "Why, Lord?" If this is how I die, Lord, Why be left with no family and no friends? I've got no celebration. Just this consolation. Time eats all his children in the end… no singing songs of celebration, just this sorry speculation …” etc.
Her biggest fear on top of her parents of all people moving on with another child is that no one can tell her that she was something special.
If we’re focusing especially on “the lion gets jealous, sometimes so jealous he eats the children.”
It’s also evidence for the fan theory that maybe Jane’s father had something to do either with the cyclone accident or specifically her beheading.

Finally got to see "Ride the Cyclone" at Revolutionary Voices Theatre/Burning Coal Theatre Company/Pure Life Theatre/why are there so many names for this theatre?
Some of my favorite or otherwise noteworthy parts of this production!
Both Ocean and Noel have the same short black hairstyle. I talked to their actors about them being identical twins in an AU (intentionally dressing androgynously to trick people), and they LOVED that idea!
Ricky, no exaggeration, looks exactly like how I otherwise imagined Ricky (short height, Alphys posture, wavy shoulder-length light brown hair), minus the hat and glasses!
Misha has this giant puffy Jewfro and he ties his necktie around his head. And Constance has only the most adorable little dreadlock pigtails!
Their Jane looks almost exactly like Emily Rohm's Jane, but with a higher voice more like Ashlyn Maddox! She also plays Virgil!
Karnak has a spiffy top hat and a space-themed suit, which I like very very much! I complimented the actor on his suit, which he took in stride!
Speaking of which, Karnak's voice and performance was very deep yet human and DEEPLY sarcastic yet stoic at the same time.
"Karnak's Dream of Life" started with Jane stomping out of the entrance doors and stepping onto the center stage, before singing.
When the kids boarded the Cyclone, Ocean and Constance were in the front, followed by Noel and Ricky in the center, and Misha in the back.
They each had different sound effects for their introductory poses. Ocean's was the standard triumphant trumpets, Constance's was a sad trombone, Noel's was a romantic trumpet tune, Misha's was a snippet of a hip-hop beat, and Ricky's was a chiptune "level-up" sound effect.
Ricky also does the splits after gaining their heightened abilities!
Misha shoves Ocean off the Scully box, in order to complain to Karnak about the wi-fi!
Constance and Ocean have this fully-memorized secret handshake during the U-Pop skit!
According to her acted-out backstory, Ocean actually got an autograph from "Up with People"!
Ocean simultaneously has energetic girlypop and stressed out soccer mom energy and I love her for it!
Misha visibly SPAT into Ocean's face, after their "I Love You Guys" segment.
I love love LOVED the "Noel's Lament"! He had this patterned shawl over his black lingerie! He was thrown to the ground several times in the song! He reminded me SO MUCH of Beck's "Noel's Lament", which was one of my favorites choreography-wise!
Someone in the audience said "Yes!" in response to "Is everyone's song gonna have profanity in the chorus?".
RICKY AND MISHA PLAYING ROCK-PAPER-SCISSORS DURING "EVERY STORY'S GOT A LESSON"! THEY ARE THE SIBLINGS OF ALL TIME!
(When I told both of their actors about this scene, they were surprised that I even noticed it, and they wanted to put in extra little moments in the show!)
Misha does a high kick during his Rupaul's Drag Race line!
Misha's acted-out backstory has him physically shoved by his "father" into the basement! He started to do pushups out of pure RAGE!
This is a Misha that is filled with rage and just emotion in general! His whole face is perpetually pink, and he shows open disgust to things like the Iron Maiden t-shirt and anything to do with Ocean! Both "TSIA" and "Talia" remain ON TOP!
(When I complimented his performance, the actor fistbumped me!)
Ricky pelvis-thrusts his way to Noel during his "Harder, longer, wider, wetter~" bit, and Noel blocks himself with Ocean, following by Ricky kissing Ocean's hand.
Throughout the entirety of "Space Age Bachelor Man", Ricky makes these BIG gestures throughout the whole song, being REALLY excited to tell their story!
Much like with the University of Austin, Noel and Mischa brought out this long white tarp for Ricky to change behind, and throughout the meowing break, his clothes flew all around the stage.
The Bachelor Man outfit! It was this sparkly rainbow leotard, with tall white Go-Go boots and black cat ears!
Misha bowed down to Ricky when he called them "Space Jesus", before Ricky put his hand on Noel's shoulder to tell him "No. It was the Silver Surfer!"
The Ballad of Jane Doe! I'm always a fan of higher Jane vocals, and I especially love how she's played as this very-terrified outsider, and the end (in which she gets an extra-long high note and finishes by screaming and shielding her head with her arms) gives more credence to the "Jane gets her head crushed by a fallen piece of the Cyclone, while she was standing outside of it".
During the New Birthday Song, Ocean was struggling to come up with lyrics, with the other kids gesturing for her to go on, and awkwardly suggesting the next parts of the song!
Although the "Savannah with the greenest eyes" bit, went a bit too fast for my liking, my Spacedolls heart could only swell at the interactions between the two!
Ocean bear hugs Constance when she says "My death has really affected me!", to which Constance can only pathetically pat her back.
The punch to Ocean's boob was more of a shove, but it still gets the job done to both boobs!
Jawbreaker.
OH MY GOD JAWBREAKER!
Constance's higher vocals and sitting criss-cross on the floor really sells the audience on the fact that she was just a kid feeling this way about herself, her town, and the people around her, cycling between sardonic remembrance, anger, sadness, and finally, joy and cheer around the end!
And Sugar Cloud is equally as amazing!
A contender for one of my FAVORITE CONSTANCES!
After Sugar Cloud, Ocean hugs Constance and whispers an apology to her, which Constance only smile and whisper back "It's okay!".
I NORMALLY DON"T SHIP BLACKROSE BUT I AM PHYSICALLY WEEPING!
The scene where Ocean chooses Jane is so heartwarming!
Everybody was just uncontrollably laughing during "It's Just a Ride", which is just how I love it! Full of joy and whimsy!
Unfortunately, they do use the new script (in spite of Ricky having crutches during Uranium Suite) and I suspect that they used AI for the background projections. But I otherwise still adored this production and every single cast member behind them!
