the whole "it's boring to have the characters end up in heaven at the end" like, no it's not a boring ending and it's not what happened. they aren't in heaven, they are back inside of jughead's narration. they're teenagers forever. they're inside the story again. this whole season has had each and every character fighting their way out of the narrative they have been trapped inside, that jughead trapped them in, let them finally achieve that and gain their freedom only to die and end up back in the narrative again. they are back where they started.

Guys the ep being about a miss America competition is naturally a callback to the dw episode in season one about beauty context

it’s so devastating that somehow despite how good rvd fans are at posting and how good they are at talking abt themes and meta and such theres only a handful of good fics at any given time so when u and ur friends try to exchange recs it’s like “have u read the one set in s3 where-” “yes.” and u have. u have read them. read this one btw

6, 10, 12, and 20 :-) i'm soooo curious for your rvd fic recs if you have any
6) Which musical episode is your favorite?
while i really love when they do something about a fucked-up town (17 at the end of the heathers ep was particularly poignant) i’ve gotta go with my bestie s7e14 Chapter One Hundred Thirty-One: Archie the Musical!! probably my favorite episode of s7 so far (although i wish tabitha was in it but that’s me about all of this season 😔) & it gave us archie going left archie going right + beronica cosmic destiny kiss + more layers of meta about being trapped in the narrative than you can shake a stick at which is what riverdale does best
10) Which episode is your favorite? Why?
s3e05 Chapter Forty the Great Escape!!!!! absolutely no contest she is everything to me. everyone is at their height: archie tragic hero, veronica confident shenanigans, jughead crazed narration, betty on a motorcycle the Suspense the THEMES i’m stimming just thinking about it
12) If you read fanfiction, recommend a fic you love.
i am always happy to receive more riverdale fic recs bc it is a heterosexual wasteland in the tags but here are my favs!
was that us or was that a movie? by HaHaHaHaWhat
meta commentary on the meta show, an absolutely delicious premise. i’ve reread the first chapter several times
Shall the water not remember by ForsythiaRising
been steadily making my way through this author’s catalog & they never miss! loved this perspective & ofc i adore TABITHA <333
loving is easy by ohmygodwhy
another staple author, they do really good slice of life
no one in the world by watchriverdale
quintessential s3 jarchie run away with me
20) What is your favorite quote?
oh god so many, but i’ll highlight this one from the end of 2x17: Well, as far as the lead role's concerned, cancel them. I'm obviously Riverdale High's Carrie White. And this school's gonna burn.

what are the odds the finale ends in a meta way that they are all comic book characters or something like that? i know rvd has ventured into that more with s6 but it wasn't what it was about for 90% of it's run... so to end on that note would be so disappointing
“it was all a story/dream/book/comic” is the most cliche horrible cop out ending of anything ever, and i don’t see any show in this day and age being dumb enough to end like that knowing they’d get ripped to utter shreds. also, that would basically be a rip off of their own ending for rivervale, not to mention create an inception like effect with vale as well as the plot of 705. i can certainly see an homage to the comics in some way in the finale and it coming into play but “the whole show was just comics written by jughead” would be below even ras, especially when “it’s all just a book jughead is writing” has been speculation from the beginning and thus making it not only an embarrassing ending, but an embarrassingly predictable one too.

narrator jughead presenting himself as an angel (including being introduced with the same bell noise that was heard when angel tabitha returned and the caption saying he's angel jughead) and then music turning eerie and sinister when he looks into the camera and reveals that he's actually the narrator and not the angel...
what's the phrase? even the devil disguises himself as an angel?

(rvd anon) I know we don't have to agree about Riverdale's camp, but nothing you said makes Riverdale NOT intentional or campy. My main point was that most people think Riverdale is trying to be a regular teen drama and hate on it and you clearly know it’s not, which already makes us on the same page to me lol. Because I can talk about why Riverdale sucks at being campy (and everything else) for sure. But most people can’t even tell it’s trying to be anything.
Except the fact that I think its intention is different, its intention isn’t campiness, which I mean OK because it’s not campy --- its intention is a different kind of irony and meta awareness but I explained that thoroughly so we aren’t on the same page and that’s fine.

i feel like this has been said a million times, but roberto tried so hard to blairena veronica and betty's friendship but failed so miserably.
for starters, the basis of their friendship is so very different.
with blairena, right from the beginning, from the moment we're introduced to them they're already feuding but you get the sense that they seem to owe each other a certain level of loyalty. even when you find out serena and nate, who is blair's long term boyfriend, slept together, you understand why blair is so upset. you get it. serena is her best friend and has been in her life forever, it is a massive betrayal. then as the show progresses, they both fuck up. they both hurt the other, they scheme and they tear each other down, but when it comes to it, they are there for each other, they apologise to each other and they hug it out. it feels genuine.
with veronica and betty, the writers try to do the same thing. they set up a love triangle with them and archie, but it doesn't quite work. yes, veronica is well aware of betty's crush on archie, she's informed by kevin almost immediately, but when she kisses archie, it doesn't really feel as big a betrayal. at that point, v and b have only known each other for days, v owes betty no loyalty, they're barely even friends at that point! i can understand betty feeling betrayed, but it just doesn't work in the way the writers want it to. then, as the show progresses, their friendship doesn't seem to grow organically (in my opinion). of course, the fact that they're constantly in life or death situations definitely plays a role in that, but afterwards it really just feels like veronica constantly giving and giving and giving, and betty takes and takes and she tears it apart! she makes multiple speeches where she insults veronica and she slut shames her and every other horrible thing she's said to her, the first time she kisses archie she and veronica have been "best friends" for two years, and i don't think we ever even see her apologise to veronica. the second time she kisses archie is four years since they've met (riverdale's timeline is never really clear, so im going off the seasons), she's had a full blown emotional affair with him, and still, we don't really see their friendship go through the pains of the betrayal. we only see the affair through the lens of their respective romantic relationships, and all we get is an "apology" and she's just, forgiven. how are we supposed to believe this friendship is so epic and so genuine if we don't even see veronica feel an inch of hurt by betty's betrayal? (yes I understand the whole genuine friendships should never be torn apart by a guy blah blah, but genuine friends would never have an affair with their friend's significant other, and if there is love there, there should, would be hurt too!) everytime their oh so great friendship should be challenged, it's over in a second, everything is forgiven and forgotten. who's buying that? no, I'm not saying they should be full out feuding/cat fighting like blair and serena, but tell me, if your friend did/said some of those things, are you going to tell me that you would forgive them in a split second just because they "had a reason"?
it. just. doesn't. work.
i don't touch on the betrayal of the significant other in both love triangles because i think the shows handled that
