known for his spontaneity, fabian hadn’t told sean where he was in the cafe for the two to meet up when the latter got the chance. instead, he waited for sean to sit down and get comfortable, to watch him look around for a few times before grinning and sliding into the chair in front of him. “and how’s my favourite bean doing?” 

placing his elbows on the table and resting his head in his hands, fabian continued to smile. “and how does it feel to kick ass on idol project?”

“I know you guys are technically under KWorks, but you’re basically a Radioactive group. Mirae and you came from us, so I say you’re still one of us. Which means you need to come visit more because Hyunjoo is the worst and it feels like he kicked you out and replaced you which is nasty.” @rvxsean

“I mean, on the upside, you’re probably getting more sleep now than you would if you were promoting your debut. Like, you didn’t get a super normal debut, but you actually get to sleep. That’s cool.” @rvxsean

“Okay, I need your help,” Mirae said, tugging on her pseudo-brother’s arm as soon as the stylists were done with her. “The start of this song is in English, and I think I’ve got it down, but you need to help me. I’m not going onstage and making a fool of myself and butchering the line. I don’t need the international fans making fun of me.” @rvxsean

Yena searched for excuses to talk to people in just about anything and everything. However, she hadn't been as successful as she had hoped in finding excuses so far with the other trainees, and quite frankly, some of them were just too intimidating for her to approach, anyway. So when she heard that another trainee had also had the same title for nearly eight years, well, it was the perfect excuse. He seemed nice enough, too, so Yena wasn't afraid by any means - it could be her chance to actually socialize.

When she saw the said trainee, she approached him quickly and was speaking before she could even think about what to say. "Hey. I heard you've been training for almost eight years; I'm in the same boat. It really sucks, doesn't it?" Was she already regretting her choice of words? Yeah, a little bit. Was she going to act like that's what she had planned on saying? Most definitely.

coming in second rank - and then third overall - affected raekyung much more than it should’ve; far more than it should’ve. the only reason it did was because, in his head, it reminded him about hydra and how he was second best there and, in the moment of finding out the rankings, he had similar feelings to what he felt then. it wasn’t anyone’s fault to blame aside from his own mind that worked against him far more often than with him.

tonight, like most nights, he was practising away in one of the practise rooms on all the choreography he knew. from mercury’s to gemini’s to traxx’s. any choreography he knew, he practised. it hurt him a little to go through the choreography for ‘adore u’ but he pushed through because he had to prove to himself he was good enough.

a producer had come in to tell him that another trainee in a different practise room would be joining him and raekyung simply nodded, eyes not leaving the mirrors in front of him. he moved over to the other end of the room to give the trainee space and purposefully ignored the door. when it opened he didn’t look up and, instead, he focused wholly on the mirror of himself/ he had become prone to saying things to himself and that week was no different; he repeated his near daily-for-the-past-week or so mantra to himself; “you’ll always be second best if you don’t push yourself.”

words: 601 recap: raekyung’s most important person in + out of the competition

As cliche and predictable as the answer may be, Raekyung’s most important person in his life is his mother. She was and continues to be his biggest fan and inspiration, supporting him every step of the way throughout his idol life.

She was the one who supported him when he took an interest when scouted; she spent many a night with him going over iconic choreographies just so he could have something to show those he was auditioning to. She was also the one who convinced his father to allow her and Raekyung to go on a shopping spree; the clothes Raekyung had weren’t necessarily bad but they were obvious hand-me-downs and although an audition usually centres itself around one’s talent, the appearance and the first impression from that also plays into it and his mother recognised that and did anything and everything she could in her power to make sure he made the best first impression possible.

Leaving his mother in Busan for the trainee life in Seoul was subsequently hard for Raekyung because they were so close. She still went to the very last moment with him; giving him a hug before he entered the company building for the first time as a signed trainee. She said some words to him that he has never forgotten; “Whatever happens, you’ll always be my star.”

He felt extremely accomplished when he made it into Hydra, confident that he had made his mother proud and hearing her voice filled with joyful emotions when he told her was confirmation of that. But, on the flip side, when he was pulled he couldn’t bring himself to call her right away because he was ashamed; embarrassed that he had let her down. She was understanding all the same though and told him to never give up and, for that, Raekyung was and always is extremely grateful.

When Raekyung entered the competition, he never thought he’d have any friends and would be the lone ranger of the trainees. A self-described introvert who had managed to push a few trainees back at DS away due to the need to outperform them, Raekyung was positive he’d never have any trainee friends. He was happy to see Sean though; a childhood friend that meant he wasn’t completely alone.

Things fell into natural succession after that; through Sean he had met Mirae and the girl from Gaia, Hana, had somehow joined their mix and suddenly he found himself in the midst of a group of friends. Myungji tagged along through Mirae but nonetheless, it was a group he was involved in. If he compared himself from the first few days of the competition where he was alone to the current time where he has those friends, the changes were significant already. Changing more into an extrovert, Raekyung had become a lot more outspoken and because of that he was able to make even more friends in the competition. Although it had only been two weeks, he felt a lot happier than he had in a year or so.

Through gaining the confidence he was able to speak to Spotlight’s Mercedes, finding something in common with her with both of them being previously dropped from a group lineup. That had reassured him too; he wasn’t the only person in there trying to prove something to their company.

Ultimately, although his mother remains the most important person to him overall, he can’t deny that in the competition Sean, Mirae and Hana are the most important people to him because they allowed him to open himself up more and grow as a person.

“i have a plan. and it’s coming from me, so we know it’s a good one,” mirae murmured, pulling him in by the arm and down to her level. they were being given time and studios to practice as teams before they had to perform for the first time later that evening, but sean and mirae had their routine down pat. it was so easy it was laughable. the time wasn’t really need, other than as an opportunity to warm up and shake off the rust. 

“it’s not like we really need this practice time, yeah? but they’re filming this, so if we slack off, we’ll look like assholes,” she murmured. “so like....let’s do something crazy good. something that’s actually on our level, so everyone can see how good we really are as dancers, before we go show that we’re both good performers and that you can sing and stuff. what do you say? we can play around and choreograph something fun. you can put those skills eli has taught you to use for once.”
