I’m gonna say it.

Eddie Munson’s character (even though, while I admittedly did not want to, I do love him) could’ve been Billy Hargrove.

Say Billy has survived the mall incident. By a number of reasons we’ve all considered. The best scientists in the world bringing him back? The bite that took El’s powers then the bite that could’ve put them into Billy? Truly the list goes on and on.

The “Satanic Panic” still would’ve happened - Billy probably would’ve had scars all over his body, could’ve become a recluse and people could’ve questioned why he was the only one at Starcourt that night who sustained such an insane amount injuries but survived. The deaths could’ve easily have been blamed on him for these reasons and so many more (I’m thinking maybe Billy stumbling upon Chrissy and relating to her struggles even, before she dies) Coming from California when the residents just started to truly suspect something wrong in town. His car, his music, beating the shit out of Steve (because it’s Hawkins - everyone would’ve known), plus the way he could’ve shut himself off from the world and possibly even been considered generally scary/disturbed by the residents. The people in Hawkins could’ve blamed him and the which hunt could’ve been the same.

I mean, come on. Throwing away what arguably could’ve been the most complex character in this show, who could’ve had a redemption arc to rival even Steve Harrington’s had they written him to put in the work with the kids as he’s recovering...... for a storyline of Billy dead, a Billy “copy”, Steve wanting Nancy back, who cheated on him and dropped him like he was nothing and who weren’t even friends in S3 (not to mention he said openly that he didn’t love her anymore) (ALSO not to mention that Nancy has never even apologized, yet alone even 30% of the character growth that Steve has). Neil getting off the hook and not being able to stay in Hawkins without Billy after being abusive Billy’s whole life...and for Steve being jealous of Dustin’s high school friend?

I mean. Can you imagine them hiding Billy at Steve’s house. Can you imagine Billy bonding with Dustin in the Mordor scene. Can you imagine Billy diving in when Steve gets pulled through the gate. Can you imagine the hilarious Robin/Billy banter we’d get. Can you imagine Billy thinking Nancy is a priss and being shocked when he finds out he’s not. Can you imagine Billy fighting monsters. Can you imagine Max and Billy getting close in the year of him recovering, only really trusting Max in the beginning. Can you imagine Billy’s protectiveness and determination to kill Vecna when he curses Max (traumatized over what she saw in the mall and almost watching her brother die). Can you imagine Billy and Steve’s conversation in the woods about the Ozzy moment. Can you imagine ANY of their interactions - talking about the fight, bonding over growing out of the high school bullshit, talking about how monsters make everything like popularity seem so unimportant, Billy hating his scars and how he feels like a monster after all he did, Billy’s guilt over hurting Steve when he was trying to protect Max. I could go on for hours.

They had so much in common. They could’ve at least become great friends. The Nancy, Robin, Billy & Steve dynamic would’ve been absolutely killer.

It should’ve been Billy. I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry. Fix it fic coming very soon.

the way St4 cali promotions (Byler centric) went from brochachos to Will-Mike staring poster to Finn comparing Mileven to leeches to Mike is clueless and only gets into action when someone he loves is in danger to Will is interested in someone from the group to Will wants to play D&D with Mike in his basement for the rest of their lives to Mike’s big emotional monologue in st4 to Will’s love for Mike is beautiful to Shawn Levy saying there are no mistakes and everything is intentional to Will and Mike having an emotional scene to Will’s suspense painting to Duffers saying to stop writing what you think people want and start writing what feels correct to Will’s sexuality going to be addressed to all the posters are intentional and standing close in the said poster is intentional and now Will is gay and wants his relationship with Mike to be more in a span of 2 months is amazing to me ❤️
